- Why do people hate Rose so much, the OP asks, and quite frankly, I'm amazed it hasn't really gone terribly wanky yet. Then again, some of the more dedicated Rose fans haven't shown up yet, so maybe that is why.

- "TomKat has arrived" announced a headline in Norwegian newspaper VG. Talking about Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes arriving in Rome, of course. ARGH MUSHED SHIP NAMES NOW EVEN IN THE MEDIA KILL IT WITH NAPALM

- Flying Spaghetti Monster wank for the win! Except it made me hungry. Fooooood.

- Why am I addicted to reading the ratings thread for Veronica Mars over at TWoP when I don't even like the show? It's just - the theories, the speculation, the despair, the hope - it's like watching a drama.

- I love my cat, but he sure tests that love when he wakes me up at four in the morning and then again at five. Especially when I have to get up at six.

- I didn't know Robert Jordan was deadly ill until Wikipedia informed me. Shit.

- My father is actually on Wikipedia. I am impressed.

- Someone at work today actually petted my hair. With permission, mind you. She just wanted to feel it because it looked all shiny this morning, apparently.

- Weather is playing silly bugger. Hmpf.

- Grrr. Just grrr.

- Among the most obnoxious phrases in the English language must be "you don't understand my paaaaaain". I've seen it like six times this week. And every time I wished Bailey was there to reply. Oh, Bailey.

You got any notes to contribute?

I think she has menopause. ;-)

Just a bit ago, there was a newsitem on tv about a big iceberg on the way to New Zealand (they showed a helicopter nearby, which gave you quite an idea about the iceberg's size). They also said that an iceberg of that size was very unusual for that corner of the globe.

All signs of Global Warming, if you ask me.

Ew.

Flying Spaghetti Monster wank for the win!

As in...... like in an article or as a contributor?

Article. Or stub, more like. My father is a bit known in Norway.

I went and got lunch after reading about the spaghetti.

That's pretty awesome. What's he do?

I had spaghetti for lunch!

He was a minister in our government when I was wee. Then he had a TV show. (He is actually on IMDb for that reason, which amuses me as well.) Nowadays he is chief administrator for one of Norway's 19 counties.

Envy! I decided to make spaghetti for dinner, however.

That's pretty neat. That really amuses me.

And, to think, I had no idea you'd post about spaghetti wank. FTW!

Notes from The House O' Squid:

* BoM/ - can't be trusted if you're planning a picnic. Trust the lounge room forecast instead.

* This makes Piecesof cry. Like a baby. She isn't sure why, because no-one else in the house wept; but it's brilliant nevertheless.

* This, however, will never not make our house laugh until we die.

That's the latest from HoS. Back to you, Cam!

You think you have strange weather? Try this: last night's snow fall and today's rain and hail not only did nothing to ease our drought but also didn't do much to the bush fires started a few days ago becuase of the extreme heat. What the hell Australia?

You had snow in *November*, which is pretty much summer for you guys? WTF? Did the snow meant for us get reaaaaally lost or something?

That is impressive, I have to say.

Yay for your Dad in Wiki. *beams at the coolness of that fact*

Notes to add?

Well, new Bozling-isms from my 'not yet 2 year old' include "botdot" (football), and "keebar" (penguin), which may amuse.

Oh, and I love our new cat (we're back up to three cats here), but sultanas and croissants are NOT suitable cat food. Or washing-up sponges. He won't be told, though.

This Rose fan saw it and decided to stay the hell away. :-) Better for my blood pressure, and all.

ARGH MUSHED SHIP NAMES NOW EVEN IN THE MEDIA KILL IT WITH NAPALM

They've been doing that here since last year, with prizes such as that, and "Brangelina" and... *gag*

Notes to contribute... in the news this morning, there was a little old lady who managed to blow up her house (not with anyone in it, thank goodness) by leaving a lit cigarette next to the oxygen tank she needs to breathe.

Ew. And now they do it in Norway too. This shit needs to die.

Ooops.

TomKat has arrived

This made me laugh. My father actually calls Cruise Tomcat, as the only movie he knows him from is Top Gun, where his character was flying an F-14 Tomcat. *lol*

This said, why do batshit celebs infest my country?

Weather is not wintery enough for my liking. *sigh*

How did I miss a deity involving Italian food? How?

*clings to Veronica Mars and stays in denial-land as far as ratings are concerned*

Hm. It seems like a lot of those responses in the "Why do people hate Rose?" thread are profoundly shaped by fandom-Rose, rather than canon-Rose. I mean, I've always found Rose a bit boring, but I don't think there's a tremendous lot of support for hating her because "she thinks she's the only one who ever traveled with the Doctor." That's more how a lot of new-Who *fans* treated her--I never thought that was a major aspect of the character.

Or the "jealous and clingy" thing. That seems more like a fandom-Rose trait than a canon-Rose one.

Hm. And now there's too much Analytic Thought going on in my head for the pre-breakfast hour...

Date: 2006-11-15 03:31 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Quite possible - I wouldn't be surprised if people get negative reactions to some of the ways Rose gets treated in fandom - some of it has just been worshipping, and if you're not liking her too much, the annoyance over it can soon turn it more vicious.

I couldn't remember it either and it was bugging me a lot (I'm a curious bitch)...a bit of tinkering with Google gave me the answer, though.

Robert Jordan is deathly ill? OMG he has to finish the series. Holy crap, I hope he has notes. That's a terribly selfish thing to say, but I'm in the middle of book nine and I really, really, want to finish.

Date: 2006-11-15 03:33 pm (UTC)

Yeah, he's got a rare blood disease of some kind. But he's apparently on some test drugs that are helping - and he has promised to finish the last book, A Memory of Light.

Fingers crossed for him doing okay.

It's been ridiculously warm over here as well. November, mind you. Last year it started snowing in October and didn't stop till March. Same thing the year before that.

Dear me, are we *really* having a global warming? Can I get a Republican reply over here?

Date: 2006-11-16 07:10 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Anyone who denies we got a global warming happening is a blind idiot.

However, the cause of it is more unsure, since the world do go through cycles of heating up and freezing all by itself. How much our influence figure in, we just don't know.

I say err on the side of caution still.

the Veroncia Mars fandom is quite interesting. I like the show, but sometimes I feel like some fans think they're dealing with Shakespeare or something.

Date: 2006-11-16 07:07 am (UTC)

YES. The whole "you have to be smart to like the show, and if you don't like it...." can be quite obnoxious, really. People may not like it because it's not to their taste. Not because they're dumb. Sheesh.

I can't begin to say how shocked I am at the intelligent and controlled discussion that has occurred over Rose. Normally it would have degenerated into monosyllabic insults at this point.....

Ugghh! Rome can keep TomKat.

I had linked to the exact same article about the change in laws in my LJ :) It's things like that that are a constant reminder of how lucky some of us are to live where we do....
