Dec. 12th, 2006 06:02 pmHee. Google today is Munchified! (The reason being it is Munch's birthday - Munch being the great painter of Norway, which is why it caught my eye.) Munch has really gotten a lot of attention last few years, some related to the thievery and recovery of Scream and Madonna, of course.
Ten Most Bizarre People on Earth. Some of those are... Um, yeah.
Jews attend Iran's controversial Holocauast conferance - Now, Holocaust denial tends to fill me with a sort of cool rage, but the reason for that particular group's attending is kinda interesting.
Over at YTDAW, plans for a G/S ad in the Hollywood Reporter don't go down totally without controversy. (You have to be a member to read the posts.) Is it just me, or do fandom(s) have a sort of wank tipping point, after which anything that possibly could even the tiniest bit wanky do in fact become so?
CSI has so tipped over, me thinks. Not sure if Doctor Who has. And what is the tipping point? Probably different things for different fandoms, really.
lotus79 is having eye-surgery tomorrow, so cross your fingers for her.
Now, who wants to be helpful for
time_and_chips? I am looking for
- A mood theme with Nine, Ten and Rose all
- Someone willing to do a layout with Nine and Rose and Ten and Rose both. I am willing to give bribes here.
- Beta readers
- Potentially someone to run the OT comm
I will distribute much love to helpful souls.
There was an explosion at the Uni my brother attends and one person was injured. (Not too bad, luckily.) My brother wasn't even on campus during it, but still... Eek. Meanwhile, Norway's still gloom and snowless. Woe.

Date: 2006-12-12 05:10 pm (UTC)It's the one I'm using on my LJ, if you want to check it before using it on T&C. If you need someone to upload it, I could do it from next week on :)

Date: 2006-12-12 05:17 pm (UTC)That might be cool. Since it's an OT comm, there's not that much modding required topic-wise. Just making sure LJ-cuts are used when needed and that people aren't sniping at each other, really.

Date: 2006-12-12 05:34 pm (UTC)Torchwood has,but it seems like DW is made of up just enough politeness that so far it's managed to avoid major wankage. At least, I don't feel afraid to post to communities in DW.
I can be a beta reader.

Date: 2006-12-12 05:45 pm (UTC)If you read Foxtoast's comments, that's exactly how I feel. For me it's an opportunity cost. Am I more willing to spend my money on option (a) or option (b)? There's no question as to what would be put to greater use in the grand scheme of things, and serve the goal of a "thanks". I just thought I'd argue for option (b) to give people something to think about, not to put anyone on the defensive. But going back to the letter-writing campaign, the purposes don't lie solely in thanks.
I know. I know. *sigh*

Date: 2006-12-12 05:52 pm (UTC)There were interesting points made all around, really. But as you said, at some point it just seemed to tip into very defensive.

Date: 2006-12-12 06:02 pm (UTC)Thanks for the link of the bizarre people. I had read about the Japanese soldier, but never knew if it was really true.
I have to agree with Lori on the charity vs ad issue.

Date: 2006-12-12 06:25 pm (UTC)I think if I laughed about this right now, I'd look a little psychotic. It's clear that the consensus is for the ad, and it being a CSI board and not a charity board, what can I really expect? I tried to argue the logic of another option, which was promptly shot down (in flames? maybe not, but close to it).
While I completely agree with most of the arguments made, I was a little miffed that our comments were taken out of context. How some people kept going on about how much they already donate to charity, and how much time they spend volunteering. I - we - weren't suggesting or insinuating anything about the philanthopic nature of those that wanted to donate to the ad, we were talking about the one time use of a very large amount of money that has the potential to be gathered by a very involved community.
Options. Discussion. Ect.
I've very sensitive, I don't enjoy defensiveness :(

Date: 2006-12-12 11:48 pm (UTC)I suspect real wank will be what happens if, say, the thing doesn't raise enough money. Or someone takes real issue with suggested ad layout and wanting to yank their money. Or the anti-GSR flock starts an ad drive for an ad wanting no GSR. Etc. I'm just waiting for it.
Margarita's coming up.

Date: 2006-12-14 03:09 am (UTC)On the plus side though, while everything is still a bit fuzzy (like I am looking through a veil, really. This will pass) I would call it a 200% success so far. I can see! Without glasses!
Now tput more drops in. And then some more. And then more again.
