I want to steer my children towards the challenge of raising and providing for a large religious family. A profession is a means to an end -- the end being providing for the children. (...) There's no entitlement to happiness. If fulfilling responsibilities doesn't make one happy, that's unfortunate, but those responsibilities are still there. Passions are irrelevant.

*stares*

I am reminded occasionally how amazingly different the world manages to be in every human's brain. Holy subjective perception, Batman! Passions can be as bad as good, but irrelevant? Um, yeah. Don't think I quite agree there. But speaking of subjective worlds...

Shockingly to decidedly no one, the US House of Reps doesn't seem all that keen on supporting Bush's Iraq ideas now that Democrats are in charge. But hey Bush, at least you aren't the King of Nepal.

While on the subject of the US - I got the book Why Paint Cats for Christmas, and while it's been a delightfully bizarre read, it also left lasting damage on my brain without as such being gross. Behold!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

The day I paint my cat the Norwegian flag, you'll know it's time to give me to science, as I clearly got worms eating my brain. Anyone have something more disturbing to share that isn't actually gross?

Speaking of worms in the brain - I am writing on "Lines in Euclidean Space", the Grissom/Catherine Catherine/Warrick Grissom/Sara thing I sorta talked myself into doing. So anyone want to beta when the time comes? Patience is nice though, as I have to squeeze it in between work, WoW, sleep and birthday stuff next week.

Off to snooze so I can boost [livejournal.com profile] lotus79 tomorrow. Whee weekend.

I don't think science will want you - what with the worms and all.

Oy. I've seen worse comments on the internet lately. The commenter takes a view on life that isn't popular lately--that it is, primarily, about responsibility--but I don't think it's insane. Though the comments s/he makes about the worthlessness of women's studies are a classic example of th old crochet-y canon-centric view of academia that drives me batshit crazy.

Explain to me someone feels the need to turn your cat into a painted Wonder Woman? I'm suprised PETA isn't having a field day...watch out fluffy, mommy has some new pastels she wants to try out. : )

The sad part about the House vote is that if you watched any of the debate, it was absolutely the most wishy-washy bit of disapproval. Leave it to politicians to ride the fence even when objecting...

I don't think any of my cats would forgive me if I did such a thing.

That's possibly the most terrifying thing I've seen all year. Naturally, I'm planning to spread that picture around to as many people as possible. Why suffer alone?

...that poor cat...condemned forever by all other cats...

It looks to me like it's wearing its underpants on its head.

Just FYI for all, Why Paint Cats? is a pardoic and satirical followup to Why Cats Paint, by the same authors. No actual cats were harming in the making of either book.

I tried to explain this to a co-worker who thought both books should be banned "because they're not funny, just stupid, and what about the poor cats?" but she didn't get it. *sads*

Well...I agree that once you've had kids, it's pretty much tough shit if feeding/clothing/caring for them doesn't make you happy. Life is hard, suck it up and handle your responsibilities. But I don't agree that passions are irrelevant. I think there's room for both parental responsibilities and being a person as well as a parent.

Passions are irrelevant? Mmm, no. Coming from a person with no interest in romance -- romantic passion, if you will -- I know how hypocritical I could sound right now. And still I can't make A and B go together. Motivation is passion. A different way perhaps, but that's what it is. Maybe I'm just not pessimistic enough, but life cannot be "you do what you do because it's what you have to do", end of story, que sera sera, the end. That's almost comically ridiculous.

*stares in horrified disbelief* Why is it alright to do that and yet when someone in the US painted an elephant recently there was uproar?

There's room in life for responsabilities and passions both. I don't think the two are mutually exclusive. *scratches head*

Omg, that is disturbing indeed. It's some sort of manip, isn't it?

Orgy!fic, awesome!

My sympathies to the children of this "passions are irrelevant, you will be assimilated" person. Also, it pains me to see how he-she seems to imply his-her line of thinking is the average religious person's line of thinking. That's, uh, not true. Religious people are actually pretty, uh, human-like, usually.

As for Cat-ptain America, I will blissfully slip into denial and pretend that's all balderdash and photoshoppery. :-)

*is all boosted*

almost all my auctions sold overnight, yay!

Now where was I reading about that book the other day? I forget. (Well it was Snopes, but I forget why/how I ended up there.) You might want to mention to your f-list that it's all photoshopping, though. You seem to have traumatised some people!

Should I surrender to the urge to get some WoW icons?
