I post in the name of chairty. Not mine specifically, but my friend [livejournal.com profile] slm4gsr's push for Bet Tzedek Legal Services. They offer legal services to those who would otherwise not afford to have proper representation. And this matters, particulary in the US, where the legal system can sometimes get a bit off track.

The donation need only be ten dollars, though you can of course give as much as you can. You can read more details here or here. Or donate directly here.

[livejournal.com profile] slm4gsr is offering a CSI prize to one donator, and I'm more than willing to do something for anyone on my flist who donates, as you'll please me mightily. Postcard from Norway, a little fic you've always wanted, my terrible stick-men art, something else you might want of me - bring it up, and I'll do my very best.

Sadly us non-US ones can't donate directly, so I'm trying to help by pimping. You can of course do the same.

Thus endeth the post.

Excellent charity to promote. Donation made.

Honestly, the more criminal justice classes I take, the more the legal system in the US makes me shudder. There are so many people in this country who fall through the cracks, yet every two-bit lawyer comes out of the woodwork for the Anna Nicole Smith trial....

You rock! Anything I can do for you?

I remember watching a French documentary on a particulary case where it had been taken up by some pro bono firm after its first round through the system. And the more I saw, the more my jaw dropped. So not in a good way. The guy who had been convicted turned out to be totally innocent and the real guy was eventually caught - but it was quite clear the guy had been extremely poorly represented the first go-around. Appaling, really.

Lawyers get a lot of bad rep, but man, everyone has right to a proper defence in a court of law. Because innocent people do turn up there. Because otherwise the system goes to the shits.

Agreed with littlezink, that's an excellent charity. Bonus they're close enough on a worldwide scale to being in my back yard. Certainly worth a little money on my side.

I've never needed a criminal lawyer, but I have needed a lawyer to represent me for other things, so helping someone get more affordable representation is a very worthy cause as far as I'm concerned.

Just to clarify Bet Tzedek does not handle criminal matters -- the bulk of their cases have to do with wage disputes, labor conditions, housing conditions etc...you can actually check out their website if you'd like:

Thank you so much for donating...I really appreciate the support!!

Non-US ppls seem to be able to donate via the website: http://www.bettzedek.org/donate.html

I didn't actually try it (work puta) but there's a menu slot in the form for country, anyhow.

Yes, non US people can certainly donate through that site. It won't help toward the Six Degrees grant, but it certainly will benefit a very worthy cause!
