So, Doctor Who fandom sometimes can drive quite a few to headdesk/ARGH/despair/RAGE/go into wanky fits. (Pick those appplicable.) And lately it's been ARGH for me, particulary when fandom pretty much managed to drive away someone I really like.
So, a challenge - make me excited about Doctor Who fandom again. (And yourself in the process?) Spam this post with everything you like about it. (More than one post is not only totally okay, but encouraged. Surely you love more than one thing?) It can be stuff from the show, Daleks, memories of amusing discussions, pictures of your rat on a TARDIS, fanfic, hot-men-lusting, hot-women-lusting, Daleks, hand!porn, just!porn, Doctor Who cat macros, friends you've met in fandom, great experiences you've had here, fab icons, lines that make you LOL etc etc etc.
Maybe we'll all remember why we got into it. I'm going to spam myself too, as inspiration hits.
UNLEASH THE LOVE. SPAMINATE SPAMINATE SPAMINATE.
Non-flist people can also play - anyone can play. But non-love and ARGH will be deleted.

Date: 2007-04-24 07:17 am (UTC)- The thought of two gorgeous people getting it on is yummy.
- The BBC needed to say 'no hanky panky in the TARDIS' back when the Fifth Doctor episodes were screened which of course implies that said 'hanky panky' was happening outside the TARDIS. ;-)
- The Tenth Doctor will lick anything.

Daleks and Cybermen are cool baddies. :) Always did like them. And The Master! Loved The Master! :)
And Ten with little kittens! Ten and kittens!! :) Ten!! Kittens!! Mew Mew Mew!!!! :) :) :)
What would make me even happier? Getting more DW over here soon. And more Ten with wee little kittens. Ten + kittens = Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!! :)

Date: 2007-04-24 07:36 am (UTC)My first ep was 'The Unquiet Dead.' And I didn't even know it was Doctor Who until the very end because I started watching it about 10 minutes in. Then I decided at watch the next one to give the show a chance, that that was a two parter... well, by the time I got to 'Dalek' I was hitched. I didn't know why Daleks were supposed to be scary until then either.
Did you squee as loudly as I did when the Daleks kicked serious Cyberman ass in 'Doomsday'?
I have also fallen in love with the TARDIS and the concept that that ship is alive and aware and has a personality all her own.
I'd love to come on board the TARDIS and travel with the Doctor. If you could become a companion, where and when would you go?
(Oh, and happy birthday to me today!)

Date: 2007-04-24 07:51 am (UTC)If I was a companion, I'd drive the Doctor mad wanting to go to all sorts of historical events to see what really happened and where history books got it wrong
so I could write better ones.. And I would do a lot of Scots.(no subject)

The fact that a 900 year old alien is teh sex, and that you can swap and change the major characters.
The fact that the spaceship has its own personality and never ending possibilities.
The fact that truly, this show could go on forever. Not many shows can claim that, and if you sit on a show (say like Prison Break) you know it's going to come to an end, while Doctor Who could go on for at *least* another three years, if we keep whipping through Doctors at the rate we are.
Feel the love, Cam, feel the love.

Date: 2007-04-24 09:09 am (UTC)And why is Doctor Who fandom love? Other than because it's ridiculous at times? Fighting the virus of mushed ship names with laughter (your 'Onose' icon is win). Because it's reminded me why I love to write and given me the confidence to share that with people in real life. Because you get to have the silliest conversations about random things (*cough* Jack meets up with Zoe and Jamie, travelling together through time and space in search of their memories. They fight crime! *cough*). Oh and crack!fic, the sweet, the surreal and the downright silly!

Date: 2007-04-25 07:29 am (UTC)I need to watch more classic episodes:(

Date: 2007-04-24 10:47 am (UTC)I can still remember that moment in Resurrection of the Daleks where the Doctor faced down Davros - what other kid's show at the time tackled issues like that?
Even now, it's continuing to espouse many of those themes - equality, compassion, individuality, that knowledge is good, intelligence is to be desired, no matter where you come from, that self-worth shouldn't be fixed in your background, that war is terrible, that there are always new things to learn, no matter how much you already know. :)
It's why I watched as an adult even with shaky sets and really bad masks - because underneath the budget effects was a serious storyline.
Though it doesn't hurt that Ten licks stuff all the time, either. ;)

Date: 2007-04-24 11:12 am (UTC)That after all these years and all these plots, Doctor Who can be ANYTHING. It can be horror, or hope, or action, or cheese souffle, and is often all four at once. It can be smut (tentacle porn! ON SCREEN!) It is the living embodiment of "infinite diversity in infinite combination" because of all the variations of canon and the number of people involved. It loves its fans, although it occasionally pokes them.
And because it is such a huge fandom with such a long history, every kerfluffle and proposed war will squib out in a matter of weeks.

I was right there, RIGHT there for the ninth and tenth and life is GOOD!

Sort of a ficletette
Date: 2007-04-24 12:33 pm (UTC)His parents gave him one name each, and he hid these names in case they said too much. He jokingly claimed that his mother named him "Stop That Right Now" and no one could prove that he was lying.
He never really talked about the people who called him "dad" or "grandfather," save for occasional admissions that such people ever existed.
Sometime people called him "darling," sometimes they called him a bastard. Often the same people, sometimes in the same breath.
His hearts were heavy with names he'd lost, mislaid, tried to forget. He recited them when he was scared, and used them against other people's nightmares.
He called himself "Doctor," and tried to heal the universe.
