Get To Know Your F-List Week! (Cont'ed)
Every day I'll ask two random questions. All you have to do is answer them.

Today's two questions:
1. One thing you like about yourself?
2. You can be any god from Norse mythology, Greek mythology, Roman mythology, Hinduism or similar polytheistic faith. Who would you be and why?

Fannish item the first:

And then things in LJland went 'boom'.

Basically, in case the server is too robust to let you on f_w, what seems to be happening is that several comms and users have been reported for what appeared in their interests and have been deleted by LJ. There are summaries here or here, though remember good old bias, of course.

The alleged reporters, with some responses (Link as it is because the site has apparently tracked where it gets its hits. Hmmmm.) ETA: Link removed because site allegedly has spyware on it. Run a program like AdAware if you've visited. See more here, though I have no idea if it's genuine.

Fandom goeth boom. People discuss who to trust, who is dodgy, why all the pr0n is gone, if all the pr0n will be gone, paranoia, free speech (with some blatant misuse of it, of course) and user info woes.

... Oi.

I need to process all this before I make up my mind.

Fannish item the second:

[livejournal.com profile] who_daily makes this post on not getting linked in the newsletter.

Hmm. Now, there has been some mutterings back and forth about people going to LJs via [livejournal.com profile] who_daily to disagree, sometimes start wank and what not. Thing about DW fandom on LJ is that it's really not too huge. There's a lot of bumping into each other. If you really, really hate someone in this fandom, it's very hard to isolate yourself from them completely without leaving.

But of course, no one wants to stalk - or perhaps more importantly, appear to be stalking. Hello, user of anonymizers! But if an entry gets linked on the newsletter, then it's fair game, right? Cue the passive aggressive fun-time.

I personally quite like [livejournal.com profile] who_daily - easy way of finding fic, handy way of knowing what people in fandom are talking about, good place to see what's new. But I do wonder sometimes if it's become a convenient way, through no fault of its own, of finding somewhere to start shit. Humans are ever so fond of it, after all.

Then again, maybe fandom would be dull without all the grudges, shit and wanky ladida. I do wish we were better at owning to it than passive aggressive playing whack-the-mole with it, though. But it's so fuuuuuuun! WHACK THE MOLE WHAAAACK

This calls for special booze-a-thon at the wankshelter, it does. With novelty hats and umbrellas in your drink. What's your poison?

I like my ability to either help people understand or confuse them beyond all reason. I can deal with just about anyone by doing this :-)

I'd quite like to be Athena. Wouldn't it be cool to be known as the person who knows everything? Plus, my friends have told me I remind them of an owl, and I think that was Athena's familliar of choice, wasn't it?

1. I can be tenacious. (Rf. Getting to read the latest wank on JF's robust servers.)

2. Athena. I r smrt. Or Bastet, the one with the cats.

This whole bahleetion-wank is giving me a headache. Do you have drinks that can combat that? That, and JF's servers being robust are not helping it.

This is why I am taking one look at fandom and running the other way. When did it stop being fun? *wails*

and WoW servers are bloody down again. *sobs*

My work day sucked, and I just wanted to come home and play a bit of WoW before bed. :(

Date: 2007-05-30 01:33 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Problem is probably that it didn't suddenly stop being fun as such, the fun just started less and less outweighing the blah.

Meanie Blizzard :( Playing WoW is indeed very relaxing after work.

My brother made me a free epic yesterday. Now I wub him even more.

2. Loooooove Greek Mythology, so I would go with Athena, I guess.

Character-wise or skill?

2. You can be any god from Norse mythology, Greek mythology, Roman mythology, Hinduism or similar polytheistic faith. Who would you be and why?

Selene

She's the moon goddess and lightens the darkness. Aside from the literal meaning, that's a potent symbolic gesture, which is the main thing for me.

1. I am by nature obsessive and a fangirl, and I kind of like that. It has its downsides, but the amount of happiness it brings completely outweighs them.
2. I'd want to be Thor, because he gets that hammer. And if there's one thing I'd like around fanwank time, apart from a large drink, it's an even larger hammer.

The idea behind deleting all those journals is a good one, yes, but they've used a tactical nuke when they needed a sniper rifle. Any actual pedophiles have changed their interests, or changed LJs, and now half my fandoms are running around in a blind panic.

Fandom has certainly gone a bit "RUN FOR THE HIIIIIIIIIILLS!" Remains to be seen if it would've been safe on the farm after all.

Thor is awesome. I want his hammer. It would be fab for whacking. And stuff.

Ooooh, that is interesting LJ goes BOOM wank. I have no interest in most of the subjects in questions, nor do I have anything listed in my interests at all, so it's kinda fun to sit back and watch.

Today's two questions:
1. One thing you like about yourself? I've actually come to like my hair. It's crazy and curly, but it looks nice with minimal effort, so yay!
2. You can be any god from Norse mythology, Greek mythology, Roman mythology, Hinduism or similar polytheistic faith. Who would you be and why? I don't know much about classic mythologys outside of the Greek/Romans so I'm going with Athena.

Wow, Athena seems to be the goddess of choice. Yay for gatherings of smart, artistic, warrior women. ;-) I may have to go do some research and expand my options.

1. I like my red hair
2. I think I'd kinda like to be the Morrigan...three aspects, one goddess, all badass.

Also, is the entire fandom world blowing up? Oy. I'll take a peach vodka tonic witha valium chaser, please.

1. Hmmm... not a lot, I'll admit. Sometimes my sense of humour is pretty darn good though. *shrug*

2. My first thought was Loki, but I don't know if I'm fully the Loki type. Then I thought Bast (Bastet) because I love cats. Or Calypso. She's cool too.

I don't know how I feel about that porn thing. I think the people taking down the porn stuff have good intentions, but they are beginning to creep onto the freedom of speech thing.

I be willing to try a bit of rum at the wankshelter, I am! Arrr!

2. You can be any god from Norse mythology, Greek mythology, Roman mythology, Hinduism or similar polytheistic faith. Who would you be and why?

Do you really need me to answer this question? I mean, honestly!

1. My ability to get distracted by random tangents in the conversation and be on another track entirely. Except when I have to explain how I got there.

2. Thor, maybe. Partly because of the lightning, partly because who else would turn a plane into a hugely irritated eagle?

I kinda think humanity in general would be rather less interesting if there was a bit less fighting going on.

I rarely ever comment here. Hi Miss Cam!

1. I really like my eyes. Shallow, and not all that interesting an answer, I know, but it was the first thing in my head.

2. I would be any of the different Anubis(es) (I know there's at least two, but am unsure if there are any more in Egyptian mythology.), mainly because he is my favorite god of all time, even if he got screwed over by Or-whatever the heck that god's name is.

You're thinking of Osiris. He sort of took over for my Lord... Anubis just does the Judgement now.

*proudly holds his Anubis and ankh pendants*

And there's only one Anubis ^_^ You may be thinking of Thoth or Ibis.

1. One thing you like about yourself? - People seem to enjoy my sense of humour, which I view as a positive feature as a result.
2. You can be any god from Norse mythology, Greek mythology, Roman mythology, Hinduism or similar polytheistic faith. Who would you be and why? Thor - for the hammer, the goats, the mistress and for the ease of knowing when I'm going to die so I can borrow lots of money from people I don't like.

2: Diana.

Oh, and...some of the articles on that WFI site were ravving disturbing...not because of themselves, but because of what they said about LJ's reaction to being informed of crimes. LJ Abuse Team is apparently not doing its job. So. In some measure, I agree with this new policy.

1) I like my hair. People always ask me where I got it done, and it always gives me a little thrill of pleasure to say it's naturally like this.

2) Um, the Greek goddess Iris, most likely. Mainly because she's not too dreadfully important, gets to travel a lot, and who doesn't love rainbows and unicorns?

1. I tan pretty easily.
2. Mythology is so fascinating. I'm reading Atwood's The Penelopiad at the moment and I'm loving it.

But I digress... If I had to chose a divinity, I'd pick Hebe. The Greek goddess of eternal youth. I'm not particularly interested in the eternal youth thing, it's just that she was the main character of this book:

which was a favourite of mine when I was a child. Basically, it's the whole of Greek mythology narrated by twelve-year-old Hebe in her diary. It's made of awesome.

I still haven't forgiven my cousin who borrowed the book and promptly managed to lose it. Grrrr.

This latest LJ wank raises a number of thorny questions. Can't quite make up my mind either.

As for DW, I love [livejournal.com profile] who_daily, it's terribly useful for people like me who are just, basically, BFL (Big Fandom Lurkers). I 'm not friends with any of the big players in the DW fandom and, although I'm a member of some DW comms, I keep them off my friends' page because of their posting volume. So, without [livejournal.com profile] who_daily I'd be even more clueless than I am. It makes me mad to know that some people are misusing it so badly. Boo, shit-stirrers, boo!

1. Well currently it's my hair, which is streaked green and oh so neat.

2. For a god, I think I'd like to be a trickster. I'm not to particular as to which one... or maybe Kopapelli (Which I know I didn't spell right) because I've always liked the way he looked.

As for the Livejournal thing.. I think instead of the Interests, they should be looking at the entire journal. It'd take a bit longer, but it would be more efficient in the long run. At least so I think. But what do I know?

Fandom would be so much easier without all the crazies, but then it wouldn't be nearly as fun. I'm not sure where I stand on the banning either, but I do know that the wank will be extraordinary. I would ask for alcohol to get me through this, but the police have been cracking down on underage drinking lately, so I'll just try to get as far away from the wank as possible.

1. I love my sense of humor, it makes me laugh...which makes sense...

2. I would be Pluto. No one would dare demote me to a lesser god if I were the ruler of the underworld. *I would also force the petty humans to give Pluto back its status*

2. You can be any god from Norse mythology, Greek mythology, Roman mythology, Hinduism or similar polytheistic faith. Who would you be and why? I choose the Irish mythology. I'd like to be Brighid: Scholar, Healer, Smith. I'd learn lots about divine inspiration and hard work to fulfill that inspiration.
