*waves to new people on the flist*

Say what now?

So let me get this straight - in a rape trial, the word 'rape' has been banned from the proceedings?

...

Words fail me. Rage, on the other hand, is passing with flying colours.

Meanwhile, I went and got a permanent account - oh, and thanks for the paid time you transferred, [livejournal.com profile] pocky_muncher. I hope you don't mind it's been transferred on - and decided to have the 25$ donated to RAINN. Now I gotta figure out what icons to fill my remaining spaces with. Mmm, icons. Maybe I should bribe someone to make me special ones again. (Should totally get one with Martha and Rose and "likes both", if such a thing is out there.)

Doctor Who fandom is so (mostly) calm at the moment I except much wankery any day now. Probably any day tomorrow. I shall stock the wankshelter bar and polish my modax.

And maybe it'll even be about this comm.

Speaking of comms, what's your taken on borrowing ideas from other comms? Is credit common courtesy, or is everything considered public domain or what?

In other fandom notes:

- LJ comments being silly again. If I haven't replied to something, I probably haven't gotten the alert. Sorry!

- The CSI season 8 speculation page gives me light headaches. Oi.

- Sometimes I wonder if "I love fans, it's fandom I can't stand" should be a saying. Or perhaps the opposite is also true.

- People wank about a wank report on gay marriage wank. Oi.

- Things You Never Really Thought You'd Find For Sale, Part CMXIIV:
*Published* Mary Sue/Prince William fanfic. Whaaaa...?

- Jack/Ten/Martha is not exciting me. Oh, sad lack of Jack love, it's all your fault. Ten/Martha is all good, though. So is still Doctor/Rose. And Barbara/Ian.

- Uh oh, my name mentioned in a piece pretty much defending Cassie Claire. Should I flee for the hills?

Finally, trying summon some desire to write again - so if you're feeling so kind, hit me with lines you'd love to see in a fanfic. Maybe my brain will ping.

Wheeeee weekend soon.

...Just curious, but what are your thoughts on Ten/[spoilery character]? Or just a certain character in question.

No particular reason, I'm just curious.

Also, though certain Doctor Who comms look fun, it's the sort of fun that looks like trouble. Which, speaking of, apparently the GAFF forums are back. Finally.

From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Oh, [spoilery character] seems awesome. Dunno about slashing them, though. I was never a great slasher. It was only really Legolas/Gimli with me, other than that I tend to be fairly boring vanilla het girl.

Oh yeah, bound to be trouble sooner or later on that one, I think. If nothing else, mocking fanfic tends to lead to an irate author finding out sooner or later. But we'll see, I guess.

Yeah, GAFF be back. I'm waiting slightly with registering, though. GAFF was a bit drained of fun for a while there.

I used to be incredibly vanilla het, as well. I think my first slash pairings would have been, oh, Remus/Sirius in HP, and Aziraphale/Crowley in Good Omens. And now I see slash everywhere!

...And yet I still quite like Remus/Tonks. Weird.

I registered, made a couple of comments, has lulz at some fic. But if it gets ridiculous again, I can take off - no-one's forcing me to visit. I just miss the fun mockery.

You've been infected, clearly.

I don't mind slash, really, it's just not what I mostly seek out to read or write. I've read some good Aziraphale/Crowley and read way too much LotR slash. It's just not my preference. But well-written will always rule the day, no matter what genre.

Has Hellfire come back as well?

I caught Teh Slash.

It's really odd, because all my RL geeky friends turn to me when they hear something about slash. But, though I like certain slash pairings, I still tend to default to het (or gen. But when I want porn, I tend to look for het first)

I am afraid to find out.

Porn, where is porn?

I think it's a bit common to default to your own sexuality, so to speak.

If she gets to enlightening us about how hateful Islam is again while praising incest, I may lose the last part of my brain.

Thank you for this dose of WTF. I needed something to laugh at. *points to wanks and some of the stupid people there*.
The rape trial however, not so funny though. Thats a whole lot of different kind of stupid that just makes me want to hit something.
And a Mary Sue/Prince William book?? WTF?

I'd like to see a judge ban the word 'robbery' from a case about someone robbing a bank, yes.

Blah.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. I've gotten some comments over a day after they were posted.

Jack/Ten/Martha is not exciting me.
Out of curiosity, what about Jack/Martha?

Thank for the links to stuff. Now I have more things that I can use as an excuse to procrastinate.

Yeah, I get some comments right away, some hours later, some days. Gah.

Jack/Martha doesn't interest me as Jack doesn't, basically.

The Mary Sue/Prince William book sounds like the embarrassing tales I write in my head when I have troubles falling asleep.

Re: Who Fandom. This clearly is the calm before the storm. Also, I think I enjoyed more Barrowman in the Confidential than Jack in Utopia. I am le weird.

I think borrowing ideas from other comms is a good thing, though credit or at least letting them know you took it is polite. It's brilliant when a thing like the anon kink meme ploughs through three or four of my fandoms though XD;

i heard about that trial where rape was banned, along with a list of other words.the this motion was put in by the defense attorneys and the judge granted it. they also wanted to ban 'sex' and 'intercourse,' which would effectively leave nothing with which to describe what happened.

prince william fantasy book? whaaaat?

have a good one :o)

Obviously, this is because testifying people should always mime what happened. Obviously.

Yeah, but it's traumatic enough for a victim to talk about what happened - acting it out? New levels of shit.

From: [identity profile] evilstorm.livejournal.com
Ah. Yes. Sorry, forgot about that. (Yeah, yeah, I know, I suck.) Possibly someone else could do the miming whilst the victim went and had a nice cup of tea somewhere.

*gawk* What the ZARK? That sums up most of my reaction, although particularly to the legal case and the published Prince William/'Sue fic.

Words are important. Really, really important. If the word 'rape' can't be used, then the connotations…

It really is a bit far.

I too have rage about the thing where you can't say 'rape' in court. If you were forced to do it, it is rape. Plain and simple. Those people who say otherwise fail at life.

I have a feeling the DW fandom will be stirred up plently with the last two episodes. How much do you want to bet Rose will be mentioned in the next episode?

Um... I have a kind of a running gag with friends where the phrase 'reverse the polarity' means sex or even better, orgasm. Maybe you could work that into a sex fic?

Apparently Mr Saxon has a wife. Can you imagine being married to the Master?

Uh oh, that kind of gave me a vague idea for a fic. Hmm. *ponders* Yeee-esss, that might work.

Thanks!

The best part about the Prince William/Mary Sue is that the author thinks the University of St. Andrews is in England. FFS, if you're going to write fic and then pay an obscene amount to get it published by a vanity press, at least make sure you get the country right, eh? It's not hard - the very first result on Google says it's Scotland. *facepalms*

Date: 2007-06-22 03:43 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Do not mistake Scotland and England. That's like mistaking Norway and Sweden - mortal sin!

I have a feeling that might not have been the only thing the book got wrong.

I usually do not comment on the WTF but..if rape and sexual assault are both banned from the courtroom then shouldn't the witnesses testify about kidnapping and torture?
The reasoning being that the terminal waste of existence rapist has to restrain the victim and that rape=torture

Which might avoid that this WTF be used as a precedent.

Oh no no. It is an interesting discussion to have and all. It's just when CC gets mentioned, wank tends to follow. People have very, very strong opinions on her and that particulary issue. Which is why my first reaction tends to be "uh oh" to anything related to her.

Please don't cencor yourself, particulary on my account. I link to things and debates I find interesting in my LJ all the time, yours was just another example.

I didn't really intend to make my post be defending Cassandra Claire. And apparently through the slight haze of Riesling and the fact that I haven't written, well, anything in about 4 years this did not come through. What made me wrinkle my brow in general was the lack of reference to Riley's work. *sigh*

My first instinct was to eyes-only the post... but that would be cowardly. XD

*pats* I've posted many a post myself where I later go "what the hell was I thinking? Oh wait, I wasn't". A fine LJ tradition, if you ask me ;)

I have actually read Pawn to Queen. I rather liked it a lot to start with, but the later chapters rather lost my interest, I'm afraid. As I recall, it was THE Snape/Hermoine fic at the time. (I was never that into Snape-centric, but my BFF [livejournal.com profile] lotus79 was, so I got lured with a bit. And good fic be good fic.) When there is drama related to the authors, the fanfic oftens gets 'tained' or 'tarred' with it, as it were. I suspect that's been the fate of more than a few authors.(Even professional ones. Hello, Anne Rice.)

Lol. Yes, I think I've learned my lesson quite well now.

That was my whole point. You just made it in 2 sentences. *laughs at self* Unfortunately the post meandered into the wrong territory and wank ensued.

Thank you for being so polite. I appreciate it.

I seem to recall one person calling CC She-Who-Will-Invoke-Wank or some such. This should be offered as another example. It's like mentioning incest-in-fanfic - people will come flocking to new battlefields for old wars.

But hey, you locked it down before it got really wanky, so it's not like you'll wake up tomorrow on f_w. (I've done that - well, I was just mentioned, really, so wasn't too bad, but it's still a bit of a "oh deeeeeear" experience.)

All the more reason to drink more ;)

There's still half a bottle of riesling at home, as well. <3 And some Jameson.

Yeah... I wasn't quite ready for the big kids pool here on LJ. I honestly didn't think anyone would *read* it, let alone get pointed to on metafandom, etc. I'm not saying this is large on the drama scale for anyone but me... but as someone who has met F2F 3/4 of the people of who have her friended... it was a little frightening. LOL.

Hey.

I appreciate you checking with me and I will run this by the other mods, but could you take T&C business to Page-A-Mod for the future? There all three mods will see it, you're more likely to get a prompt response and we like to have a place to track all the various mod issues should something ever resurface.
