Bush urges patience on Iraq, Republicans don't seem too impressed.

Sigh. You know, I've opposed the Iraq war from the beginning, but I'm thinking that US troops pulling out right now may very well make the country implode on itself. On the other hand, the troops don't seem to be able to improve things either, so who the hell knows.

Knut the Polar Bear shows to stop.

Aww, Knut.

Meanwhile, in the World of Warcarft, people wank over the size of Orc shoulders. 51 pages of bitching. Haha.

In Doctor Who fandom:
[livejournal.com profile] time_and_chips is finally having its Anywhere But Cardiff ficathon. My prompt is Kent, 1900 which I have no idea what to do with yet, but something will probably come to me. [livejournal.com profile] falena84, I may have to write a bit on this one while visiting you, heh. Also there's a new Doctor/Rose fic rec comm, [livejournal.com profile] quite_right_too, so maybe a slight overdose if you don't like the pairing, huh? And hey, we made fandom_wank not for shipping again.

In CSI fandom:
You have a right to disagree, but GSR is boring, forced and akward! Grillows at least has some spark to it! Grillows WILL be cannon because one day Gil will wake up and realize that GSR is nothing but a BAD dream! Until then though, I don't want to fight with anyone, we can all have our opinions - says a poster on the CBS boards. Ship wars never die, says Cam. Any bets on how wanky the fandom will be when the new series starts? (Also, CANON. Learn to spell it if you're gonna use it.) I see the debate rages at Jump the Shark too. War of the shark-spotting.

So I got tagged twice. First we have [livejournal.com profile] canadian_kazz, with random facts meme.

1. List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
2. Tag seven people to do the same.
3. Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag whoever wants to do it.

1. I've been on the Norwegian national news wearing a red and pink outfit. I was ten. The shame never dies.
2. I always paint my toenails in summer and never my fingernails at all. Currently, it's purple polish.
3. The book I'm reading at the train to and fro work at the moment is Bill Bryson's A Short History of Everything.
4. Once, crossing a snow-filled field, I got a boot stuck and couldn't get it loose again. (The snow was at least half a metre high, did I mention?) Eventually I had to get help getting me loose. The boot stayed there till spring.
5. I prefer to suck peanuts rather than chew them.
6. I get really thrilled at getting recced, but feel vaguely embarrassed at own squee and never know if I should thank people or not.
7. I'm not much of a breakfast person. It takes me at least an hour after I got up before I'm even thinking about maybe getting food.

I tag seven people to comment with "Facts pwn". Hah.

Tagged by [livejournal.com profile] dreamingwriter - Seven songs I'm into now.

List seven songs you are into right now, no matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your LiveJournal along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to.

1. Postgirobygget, "Tidløs".
2. Alejandro Fuentes, "Tomorrow Only Knows".
3. Trang Fødsel, "Hammock".
4. Gyllene Tider, "Sommartider".
5. Thrall's theme in World of Warcraft.
6. Kings of Convenience, "Parallel Lines".

I'm thinking that US troops pulling out right now may very well make the country implode on itself. On the other hand, the troops don't seem to be able to improve things either, so who the hell knows.

Ain't that the truth. It's such an unholy mess now that it's hard to imagine anything improving matters in any way. Of course, that's what happens when you go steaming into a situation you don't understand with no plan and no forethought...

Date: 2007-07-11 12:32 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Yeah, it did rather seem like the US administration planned - and won - the war, but the peace that came after, that hasn't seemed much planned or won.

And whenever Bush talks about not making Iraq a breeding ground for terrorists, I want to smack him hard - it wasn't before the US came. Say what you like about Saddam, a depicable dick of a man, but he wasn't keen at all on letting Al-Qeada tell him what to do and had his own reasons to keep them out.

Date: 2007-07-11 12:41 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] smtfhw.livejournal.com
Yes, and additionally a lot of people now believe they were better off under Saddam, which is saying something!

The mess Bush has made is terrifying, and the rest of the world ends up paying the price. As you say, Saddam was despicable, but even so, how would most of us feel if an invading force turned up on our doorsteps and started trying to tell us how we should be governed. Maybe we should turn the tables and force regime change and democracy on the US... They strike me as being much in need of it!

Date: 2007-07-11 12:52 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
No one likes to be occupied. Even if the occupying force comes in relative good will. And when people miss the days of a dictator, then it's getting scary.

I'd like to force social democracy on the US. *nods sagely* The Social Democratic Kingdom of New Vinland.

I have a bit of squee that you did the meme I tagged you for. :D I like to suck peanuts too. (That sounds kinda wrong...)

I wish you luck with your Anywhere But Cardiff fic. :)

From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Oh, I try to do meme if people tag me, I don't always spot them. I am slow like that. (And have a long flist.)

Peanuts are awesome to suck - nice and salty ;)

Heh, thanks. Got a while to do it at least, eh? Good luck with yours too.

Date: 2007-07-11 01:02 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] canadian-kazz.livejournal.com
Yeah, I know you have a long flist. So I'm honoured you read my journal. :)

Mmmm... peanuts... then I open the two halves with my teeth and bite that little nib off. :D

Thanks. I'll need all the luck I can get.

Date: 2007-07-11 01:18 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
I sometimes swallow the peanut whole.

... This is sounding dirtier and dirtier, innit?

Oh, I'm sure you'll do fine. Writing can be evil to do, but there sure is something addictive about it too.

Date: 2007-07-11 01:21 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] canadian-kazz.livejournal.com
I used to swallow them whole too! but then I almost choked on one, so I don't do that any more. I do like stuffing my cheeks with them like a chipmunk or squirrel though. That's fun!

Writing is a wonderful hobby and I do love it... when the plot bunnies are there. *looks for plot bunnies*

Date: 2007-07-11 01:34 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Lol. I never take more than one or two at a time. I like to enjoy each one. Mmmm.

Everyone knows plot bunnies hit you when you're not looking. They're evil like that.

Date: 2007-07-11 01:36 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] canadian-kazz.livejournal.com
They hit you at two in the morning. Or in my case, they give me one little plot idea, but no clue how to get to that point, or where to go from there.

Date: 2007-07-11 02:04 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Two in the morning is popular, yes. That's why I have a notebook in my bedstand so I can scribble down. If I understand my scribbles in the morning is another matter, yes.

Half a bunny is a bother. It nibbles hard, yet isn't substansial enough.

Date: 2007-07-11 02:08 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] canadian-kazz.livejournal.com
I have a friend who kept a dictaphone by her bed for those 2 AM bunnies. Trying to decypher her half-asleep mumblings was always fun.

I don't mind my half bunnies when I need just a few more details to finish off a fic, but most of the time they just annoy me. Sometimes they make for a decent drabble though.

Date: 2007-07-11 12:42 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] perhatikan.livejournal.com
Thank you, now that darned umbrella song is stuck in my head. It is an evil thing.

And good luck with your fic. ^^

Date: 2007-07-11 12:53 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
YES. I heard it just once this morning and already I want to smash my head with something so it would stop humming it.

Thanks :)

I'm thinking that US troops pulling out right now may very well make the country implode on itself.

Bush is a douche. Plain and simple. I can't say it enough.

Now must go back and tend to my terrible sunburns! Boo!

Oh god. I've been singing Umbrella for WEEKS. I don't even like the song, but it's on the radio all the time, and it always gets stuck in my brain. The only thing that works to get it out is to hum "It's A Small World After All", but that's possibly even more annoying.

And facts pwn. Indeed. :)

Date: 2007-07-11 01:32 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Oh, I hate the long. The lyrics are inane. But it is everywhere and my brain hates me. HATEFUL SONG DIE.

I sometimes sing "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" and it does block out every other song, but then it kinda drives me insane. And now it got stuck in my mind. Why did I mention it? ARGH.

Shipwars. BAH. And it degenerates to capslock!of!rage! too. FAIL. If they could've come up with a more interesting defense for their ship other than "forced, boring and awkward" and "bad dream" I might have been inclined to listen. Boo.

And um, that news about Christians not being actual Christians is sorta offensive even to a lapsed one like me. Wow. This is bad PR. -__-;;

What kind of book is A Short History of Everything? Is it actually a history book? Do you recommend it?

From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
It's a book about the history of various sciences - thus a sort of history book in general, really. It's very, very good. I do recommend it. I learned heaps.
