Bush to visit Australia, fails to notice they have a free press

Ain't that bloody nice of him? After all, only the US media could possibly be allowed to ask questions, because they're the only ones who actually count, aren't they Mr. Bush? Australian journalists aren't even allowed anywhere near His Presidental Highness (but American journalists are, of course).

Even the *Chinese* President (who shall also visit) is actually giving the Aussie media a chance to ask questions, for crying out loud.

So glad I'm not in Australia right now. Also very glad Norway is not important enough for Bush to come visit. Let's hope he doesn't even know we exist...

Oh, he knows Norway exists. He just thinks it's a remote province of Canada.

Tell me about it...

I happen to live in Canberra .au. So, I get to put up with traffic disruptions to deal with the strict (pronounced "paranoid") security for Mr Bush. I get to cope with the central city being declared an enclave of the US Embassy. I get to read news reports about the police carefully setting up "areas for demonstration" (and why do I get the sneaky suspicion that these are all going to be out of sight of the media?) at those events the President will be present at.

I would happily tolerate all of this if I thought there was even the vaguest *chance* of *someone* *somewhere* treating the Australian public as though we weren't a bloody crop of mushrooms, to be kept in the dark and fed bullshit. Looks like we're out of luck.

Of course, the whole "media blackout" thing here might just backfire against the US President, because one thing that came out in that interview is the lovely snitty attitude that the Herald has to the notion. I doubt anyone from the Australian or the Fin Review is feeling any the nicer. Poor little Georgie-boy. Poor ickle Johnny. They may just find themselves on the receiving end of a lot of rather negative press over the next few days. The Australian press have long memories, and large archives, as well as the aggressiveness of a pack of rabid dingoes.

I look forward to the next federal election.

Then you will just love Margo Kingston's reaction to being "locked away" so she can't see the demonstrations.

Actually, Australia's press is bound and restricted by more federal government intervention than Umerika.

He avoids press conferances everywhere. This is a good thing. It marginalises him more from the public and the rest of the world. Making it less likely that he will stay in power. But he has already served its purpose - damage has already be done. So victory against him is an impotent win.

*winces* Fun. We've had some demonstrations here in Sydney, but in some ways I'm glad Dubya isn't anywhere near me. I think I'd go mad dealing with that level of bullshit, even for a day.

I hope that they're tarred, feathered and flayed at the next election - but unfortunately I always underestimate the stupidity of some parts of the Australian public. *sighs* Here's hoping I'm wrong.

Maybe it is a good thing I left Australia to come to Holland. Maybe it was a good idea to be born in such a remote city like Perth so it was very unlikely that even if I DID stay I would never have to put up with the herichy (bloody sp) problem in Canberra right now. Maybe it was a good idea to come to Holland as it is a remote place most people mistake for Norway...and no, I am DEAD serious! Maybe it is a good thing Dickie Bird (Richard Court, EX-Premier of WA) is no longer in power otherwise he may have gone down on his doggy knees and begged for the presidant to come over so they could play fetch. But there is a large problem with all these maybes...

One...Germany in Bush's eyes probably still says 'Hitler' and 'Nazi' all over it never mind the fact the human race actually EVOLVED the past half century and I live barely a few km from the flippen border.
Two...I am going to America next year as a soul searching expedition thing (whicxh wouldn't have happened had I stayed in Australia as I would still be unemployed) and may not be coming back in which case will place me dead center in the political crap that has become the once wonderful USA (no offence to Americans...I plan to marry one after all)
And Three...Bush has a deathwish and I'm going to be in the right frame of mind and place to give it.

This sound messed up hey...heh, the guy only messed up the world...it's not like I have a grudge or anything is it? Nah!

Be well, keep the info coming...I'm just in a dark mood so all things appear dark and dank to me right now...obviously *pale impression of a smile* yeah.

Jesus. And the sad thing is, I'm not at all surprised.

The current Administration in the U.S. doesn't give a damn about what people who don't agree with it think of it. It enjoys thumbing its nose at the people it considers unimportant. It *wants* people to know that it doesn't care about them.

In Dick Cheney's official portrait that hangs in the lobbies of all federal agencies, he's smirking. Everyone--even people who voted for him--notices it. The smirk really just says it all.

I was actually in Australia while the rumours of a Bush visit to Norway were swirling, so if he ever had to visit, that would have been the time. I can still remember all the fuss over Clinton's visit (I lived near Oslo) - but now imagine this with *Bush*.

May it never come to pass.

Well, objective achieved. Yet the US now expects the world to come help it with Iraq without even asking nicely?

Should have thought of that before they pissed off most of Europe.

Um. Hi. *Waves* I don't have an LJ account, but I've been reading your journal for a while and thought it was time I spoke up.

Sadly, this article did not surprise me. It's what I expect from that moronic git in the White House. He does not seem to be aware that a little document known as the U.S. Constitution exists. Perhaps he is not capable of reading the big words, like "liberty" and "justice." I tell you, it makes me ashamed to be an American. I pray to all gods, goddesses, and minor deities I can think of that he will not be reelected, but I have this horrible feeling he's going to cheat somehow and rig the election. Honestly, I don't think I can stand another four years with him as president. Actually, I don't think the world can stand it. I really need to get out of this country.

But I would like to thank everyone here who has been insulting the U.S. government, not the U.S. citizens. On behalf of the tiny minority of Americans who are not mindless idiots, I appreciate it. You have every right to be completely pissed at the U.S. and everything about it, and I'd just like to thank you for actually using your brains.

The government deserves insulting, though. Fire away.

See, this is why everybody thinks the U.S. is a country full of redneck hillbillies. Not only is GW a joke around the world but it seems the more he pisses off our international allies the more the American people like him! Grr. Seems Bushy's approval rating is going up. Not just his approval rating, but the American public's confidence in him to take care of international 'problems' (whatever the hell that means, I thought he caused international problems).

Damnit, that's it. I'm moving to Canada. I always said I would if he won the last election and now I'm making good on the threat...

*twitch* Gah! I really hate people that ignore other people. *seethes* Of all the pig headed, paranoid, asinine, anal-retentive...Ahem.

Even though I loath the Grade 10 Literacy test (Oh glorious Canada and its idiotic standardized testing) it did give all of us the chance to respond to the question of whether Canada should join the US.

I left a dent in my page with the force of my pen as I wrote, underscored, and exclamation pointed NO!

At least we have someone with brains to govern the country instead of a SHRUB!

Oh, and Miss Cam, I hope you don't mind, but I've spread the Shrub-age around my school. You'd be surprised how quickly it catches on.

You can always come to Norway, too.

I heard today that the Bush-administartion has banned images of the caskets of fallen American soilders from Iraq coming home from the media. Bush doesn't greet them himself, either. In previous times, images like that have been know to push down presidental approval ratings. Past presidents have still showed up to honour the fallen when the caskets have come home, though.

Guess we know what Mr Bush's priority is...

Hey!

I have several good friends who are American (even some who support Bush), and there are many decent, kind and smart people in your country. I hope I have enough sense to never forget that. Just as I would never pin the actrocities of Nazi Germany on the large population of Germans who were not supporters of the regime. Or blame Saddam's foulness on the ordinary Iraqi.

And Bush certainly has the money to get reelected. It's kinda sad when a candaidate's winner chances are actually related to the amount of money he has gathered. That is more Moneycracy than democracy to me. Oh well... One can only hope.
