So, got some new people on my flist again - Hi! - so I thought I'd write a bit about (some of) the stuff I'm interested in, why I'm interested, things that tend to annoy me, blah blah random stuff.

Doctor Who
Long before I ever saw an episode of the BBC classic, I knew of the Daleks. And I adored the Daleks. They looked awesome, could spawn a gazillion jokes and were apparently meglomaniac prejudiced pepperpots with delusions of speech pattern revolutionuniverse domination. LOVE. Then, in October 2005, I watched the new series of Doctor Who on Norwegian television and there was LOVE once more. I saw the rest of the series in a week. I adored the Doctor, a time travelling alien with a police box for ship disguise. I liked Rose, who was human and brave and not perfect. I liked them together, so I shipped. There were Daleks, who were as awesome as they looked. Happy days. I wrote fanfic for it, and thus I came into fandom. And fandom was fandom. You know - drama, grudges, friends, enemies, passive aggressive shit, just aggressive shit, secret cabals running fandom and on and on. But I was still fond of it. For the show was awesome, and really, in what other fandom would I ever get a Christmas card from one of the writers?
So these days I still write a bit of fanfic. I still ship Doctor/Rose, but I'm liking Doctor/Martha too and Doctor/Donna could also well turn out to be awesome. I mod [livejournal.com profile] time_and_chips and try to be sane most days, when I'm not being stupid. I've made fandom friends and fandom grudges. And I really, really loathe bashing, inane ship wars (often with passive agressive sniping) and stupid sweeping statements about one group of fans or ship. And also plagiarism (including thieving ideas though not word-for-word from other people/comms/websites), hating and bashing. I can get wanky about that.
But Daleks? Still made of awesome.

CSI
I've never been sure if I like CSI fandom or not. What I am sure of, is that I can't seem to quit it. Help.
So, a show about crime scene investigators. But fandom - naturally - is all about two ses. Ship and slash. And because there were several main characters, there were many variations. And many variations means different ships, which means ship wars, which means batshittery (eventually). But I'm getting ahead of myself.
I saw CSI in Australia, and got hooked around the end of season two. I rather liked Grissom/Sara, so I was at YTDAW before it became YTDAW. I wrote a bit of fanfic, but then I went back to Norway and didn't really watch CSI again for some time. When I eventually came back to it, it was a bit of teasing with Catherine/Warrick that caught my eye. I kinda liked that, too. But though I liked my ships, I wasn't married to them, and would read any fanfic I fancied. Well-written rather trumped ship. Being not-American, I always felt a bit of an outsider in the fandom, so I had a tendency to observe more than participate. Still do, I think. I will write a fanfic once in a blue moon, but my posts on 'CSI wankimplosion' - or What Batshit Follows a Ship Becoming Canon - are far more common.
I no like character bashing, actor bashing, shipping batshittery, twu-wub-cures-rape-fics and did I mention bashing?

Lord of the Rings
Oh, the book. Read it when I was 14. Still read it twice a year. When the movies came out, I was a bit sceptic it would do the books justice, but I still went to the movie premiere (at midnight!) and I really, really liked it. The book is supreme, but the movies were good and I was happy.
It's also the fandom most likely to haunt me the most, as I get the "hey, didn't you write OFUM?" still. Yeah. "The Official Fanfiction University of Middle-earth", my claim to BNF-fame (I guess). It was quite popular. Wasn't the only thing I did in fandom, though. I also wrote some Legolas & Gimli and Legolas/Gimli (friendship or slash, I like both) and Faramir/Éowyn.
Don't really hang in fandom anymore. I might read a fanfic now and then, but most of the time I don't. Haven't watched the movies in a while either, but if Peter Jackson ever coughs up a DVD with Yet More Unseen Material Particulary of the Faramir/Éowyn Wedding, I will cough up money for it. What? It would be shiny!

Football
That's the European kind, mind you. Not that rugby-with-padding-name-thieving kind. I love football. In my family, my mum and I are the most dedicated football fans, which never ceases to amuse me. Apparently, mum used to take me along to football matches back when I was a baby in Bodø. I can also remember going to matches with my grandfather - Mjølnir, Narvik's team, now sadly kinda sucky. My love has prospered since. Lying outside in the sun, listening to the football on the radio is still my favourite Sunday activity. (Or lack of activity, as it rather is. Mmm, lazy Sunday.) Tromsø, Tromsdalen and Bodø-Glimt are my teams. In England, I tend to cheer Blackburn and Aston Villa (because my favourite soda was Villa when I was growing up, so I liked the name) but generally anyone that isn't Chelsea will do these days. When the World Cup or the European Championship comes around every other year, I will plan my schedule around the matches. I don't mind when Norway isn't in, actually, because then I can enjoy football without having to do all the patriotic stuff. But now and then it's nice if I can pretend we're actually a good football nation. (Hah. Oh, why can't we be like Sweden and Denmark? They have awesome teams.)
I no like hooligans, racism or the Norwegian media pretending we're really good when we suck. Yeah, we beat Brazil that one time. Yeah, we beat Argentina in some mach they didn't even want to play. That doesn't make us masters of the football universe. Okay?

World of Warcraft
Yes, the game. I got addicted in December and have been playing it regularly since. My main character is a hunter, level 70. (Which is the current max.) I also play a druid, a shaman, a priest, a warlock and a mage, but those are still in lower levels. My brother got me hooked, and I play on the same server as him. I'm also in his guild, and am actually class leader for hunters there nowadays. (Heh.) It wouldn't surprise me if WoW got me a boyfriend one of these days - it certainly ensures you meet a load that likes to flirt with you ;)
I will ocassionally make references to raiding, killing bosses, getting nice loot, my hunt for epic flying netherdrake mount and other game stuff, but you're free to ignore. Honest!

Polictics & current affairs
Uh oh.
My father has been in politics. My mum's been less active, but no less opinionated. Their genes together is me, opinionated optimistic cynic. Much as it might be less stressful to be less interested in politics, I'm probably doomed. Links to news, opinions about news, groaning about the media's choice of news - all this things turn up in this LJ.
I'm leftish (compared to the rest of the world, Norway's very leftish) and consider myself a social democrat. Which is not a communist. No, really. Not everything to the left is communism, just like not everything to the right is fascism.
Also, I loathe Bush, my soulnemesis.

Books
I love to read. (Again, I suspect my parents are to blame.) I generally read a book a day at least, given that I need something to do on the train to and fro work. Tastes include anything from crime, historical non-fiction, science for non-scientists and cheap romance novels. Feel free to recommend good books you've read to me.

That make you any wiser? In any case, feel free to ask if you are wondering about something.

Fic to-do list:
- "Anywhere but Cardiff" ficathon entry, Ten/Rose.
- [livejournal.com profile] brass_love ficathon entry, Brass has adventures in Norway.
- Five Times Rose Suspected and One Time She Knew, Nine/Rose Ten/Rose.
- Symptons of Life, GSR post-Living Doll.
- Consider whether to pick up An Adventure in Norway again.

It's a good thing I will probably have September off, I'm thinking. If I can get myself to write and not play lots of WoW instead, that is. *reminds self to kick self*

Snagged from my flist:
Writer's Meme: Sometimes it's ok to pimp yourself out. Post a list of your top five fics favorite you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same.

(in no particular order)

Today's Not Over Yet [Eight Doctor] The biggest reason I love this is of course the best compliment I've ever receieved, I've gotten on this fic. If I feel a bit down about writing, I can always remember that, which I suppose makes this fic my fluffy blanket.

Life After [GSR, post-Living Doll] - This fic is rough and largly unbetaed, but for personal reasons, it still felt like a victory to get through writing it.

Raven's Song [Legolas/Gimli] I'm not usually into slash too much, but Legolas and Gimli I've always adored and they lured me into writing this. Not the best thing I've ever written, but it feels rather dear to me for being something I don't write very often.

An Adventure in Norway [Ten/Rose, post-Doomsday] Not finished, but I love this one a little for setting it in Norway and being a little nasty while being about love too.

Songs to the Tune of the TARDIS [Ten/Rose, Ten/Martha, implied Three/Jo, vaguely Four/Sarah Jane, Five/Tegan, Doctor/Romana, Ace, Susan] My "he did love them all (though not necessarily in a romantic way)" (TM) Doctor Who fic. Kinda enjoyed using lyrics in the way I did and I'm hardly ever satisfied with the endings to my fics - except that one.

(Yeah, I didn't include OFUM, even if it will most likely always be the most popular fic I've written.)

Spread the love?

Meanwhile, this is an interesting look on Bush's latest 'Vietnam could have been won, like Iraq will be' line.

Dear Bush,
Even if I sort of vaguely agree that an American pull-out now will probably not help Iraq much at all (gone far too messy for that to be a simple solution), please LEARN HISTORY before you try to decide what the lessons of it are. Particulary if you're trying to preach these lessons to us. Kay?

Loveless deep loathing,
Cam

In other news:
Belgian police with more money than they can spend.
Propaganda games for children from WWII. (Amusing fact I didn't know: The invasion of Norway cut Britain off from supplies of playing card board, exacerbating the shortage of raw materials for making games. Oh dear.)
Denmark might stake claim on the North Pole. (Greenland was a Norwegian colony originally - but it would be quite interesting if they became independent, like Iceland did.)
Bolivian congress gets violent.
The Abu Ghraib whistleblower.
Study on sex among older people.
Texas carries out its 400th execution. (And also tells the EU to piss off.)

Song to the Tune of the TARDIS is an excellent choice. I think that's the best fic of yours I've ever read. It was perfect, and not just because I love the pairings you chose. My favourite sections are the ones with Susan and Romana. Your portrayal of them - and the Doctor is relation to them - was spot on.

Thank you :) I'm a bit sad I didn't include Two in it, but I didn't feel familiar enough with his companions to write a section. Ah well.
