- It's not what you do, it's who's on your flist
Are we really turning into that kind of fandom, Doctor Who? Really? I feel vaguely depressed about it :( Possibly because I like to have all sorts of friends of differing opinions. It's just how I like it, and now I'm wondering if I have to be split down the half or some such. - Pay It Forward: I will send a
handmadegift to the first 5 people who leave a comment here on my blog with "gift!". I don't yet know what that gift will be, but you will receive it within 365 days. The only thing you have to do in return is "pay it forward" by making a similar agreement on your blog.
Okay, I don't do handmade very well, but I will make it something peronal. - I'll be needing a beta for my Anywhere but Cardiff ficathon. Any on my flist up for it?
- Have decided to like Donna for series four, just because. Not sure if I'll actually ship and not, but positive attitude is less stressful, me thinks.
- Feeling vaguely weird at having been favourited on ff.net by someone of the penname "JesusWillSave".
- It's been two years now since the rape, and I'm still here, living on. That's a sort of victory, isn't it?)
- How wanky will fandom get when CSI starts up its new season? I'm sort of looking forward to finding out. Help. I'm sick.
- Anyone interested in seeing some screencaps from my adventures in World of Warcraft? Please? Yes, I am sad and addicted.
- Surely I can't be the only one distracted during the men's 100m sprint by the fact that the men are wearing very tight track suits, and stuff is jiggling as they run?
- Poor Greece. And now Olympia there is threatened too. Ack. This is like those set fires in Australia all over again. Why do people do shit like this?
- Thinking about new LJ layout again. Argh, fickle be my name.

Fandom's getting quite... Almost gang divided, as it were. Sigh.

And I'm not doing the pay it forward either. I never finished the similar one I did like that months ago. I suck so much.

*hugs you* Two years doesn't sound like a long time, but you've certainly come a long way. You should be so proud of yourself for still standing. I know I am.
♥ You win.

Date: 2007-08-26 12:37 pm (UTC)Unfortunately with certainly parts of the fandom, it's all too true. And I really don't see it changing any time soon.
Luckily, it's not really the case with the majority of the fandom, at least not yet.

Date: 2007-08-26 12:37 pm (UTC)Having been one of the privileged few who was told this scintillating nugget of information, I think it's ridiculous. I like the diversity of my flist and refuse to defriend anyone over something as stupid as differing fandom opinions - even if there are people on my flist who *do* subscribe to this idiotic notion. But I do have a bit less respect for the people who choose to play that way.
*shrug*
Fandom's a big place. If that's how they want to engage, fine. I'll be over here with the grownups.
(I think Donna will be awesome. Just because of who she is, not who she isn't.)

My brain is exploding. There is really some sort of person or comm practicing open guilt-by-association? What's next, a loyalty oath? "If you have one drop of X blood you're out of here"?
At least the last time I ran into crap like that, they were only taking into account the part the questioner was playing in the wankery, they weren't playing "six degrees of fandom war."

Date: 2007-08-26 04:49 pm (UTC)Hmmm. A gift for you. A gift for you to celebrate two years, and to celebrate you in general. I'm working on a scarf to get my crochet back on. I can't promise it'll be perfect, but I didn't have any plans for it other than it being a "get my skills back" piece. You live in the land of cold and snow. Can never have too many scarves, right?

Date: 2007-08-26 05:30 pm (UTC)Fandom... well, I just stay in my own little corner and make my friends based on whether I like them and share interests with them, not on who they're friends with. If someone else has a problem with that, then it's their problem, not mine. Been there, done that, can't be arsed to do it again.
Two years, huh? It's not quite two years since I first stumbled onto the Teaspoon and read your Passing By - that was probabably around November 2005. Fandom's not managed to get rid of me yet ;)
As for Donna, I'm in a meh/wait and see mode. I'd had enough of her by the end of TRB; but, on the other hand, I've also now had enough of unrequited crushes. We'll see.
New LJ layouts are always fun; I'm still thrilled to bits with mine :) Enjoy whatever you get!
no subject
Date: 2007-08-27 08:46 am (UTC)I hope they flesh Donna out more in a whole season than they did in TRB, where she did feel a bit like a one-purpose character, though I did like her. We shall indeed see, but I've decided to think positively.

Date: 2007-08-26 06:13 pm (UTC)I hadn't heard about that f-list stuff-- what's the issue there?
In terms of Donna in the 4th season, I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt and wait to judge until I see the episodes. Such a looong wait until then, though.
no subject
Date: 2007-08-27 08:56 am (UTC)Couple of issues, really. Some friends of mine, as well as some people I don't know, got denied membership to a comm because of their friendslist. Then some other people I know defriended people because of them being friends with a particular person, then someone was deemed untrustworthy because of their flist... Seems to be a bit of a trend going, basically.
I know :( Doctor Who is evil in terms of the waiting for new eps, truly.

Date: 2007-08-27 08:58 am (UTC)Can't say I really dislike any of the companions I've seen either - though I've been fairly meh on several. But that's just lack of love, not active dislike as such.

Date: 2007-08-26 08:51 pm (UTC)Unfortunately, it's like that in a lot of fandoms.

Date: 2007-08-27 12:01 am (UTC)* Two years is a definite victory just as every minute of you living your life on your way, your terms and your how is. I have learned a lot in the last 12 months that life's little victories can sometimes take the oddest forms.
* Glad to hear you enjoyed Italy and all it had to offer.
* I am quite open to Donna being a good companion for the Doctor. Her "you need someone to stop you" speech at the end of the Runaway Bride makes me think she is evolving into someone interesting.
no subject
Date: 2007-08-27 09:13 am (UTC)Yeah, I'm hoping they'll evolve and give her character something interesting to do that isn't just being funny. We shall see - fingers crossed, in any case.
