Whaaaa...?

According to Michael, there are seven Roles in Essence, the thing you will be from the beginning of your lives to the end. These roles are Slaves, Artisans, Warriors, Scholars, Sages, Priests, and Kings. There are two Cycles (Astral and Causal) on the Planes immediately beyond the Physical Plane, five Cycles on the Physical Plane (Infant, Baby, Young, Mature, Old) with seven Levels within each Cycle. It usually takes more than one life to complete a Level. For each Level you chose Overleaves, selecting from one of seven Goals; one of seven Modes; and one of seven Attitudes. We each develop and Primary and Secondary Chief Feature, the means by which fear controls you.

We are all, according to Michael, part of a group of Essences called an Entity, consisting of about 1100 fragments, or individual Essences, usually of three or four Roles in Essence in each entity. The entity is composed of Cadences or groups of (you guessed it) seven fragments, all of the same Essence. A Cadence is the smallest complete unit Michael recognizes. A group of seven entities is called a Cadre. All this has to do with Casting, or where you are in the stack. During lives you may have karma owed or owing from a past life in which you interfered with the life choices of another, or yours were interfered with. This is a major factor in any life, and not everyone has karma to contend with in any particular life. Karma is earned for such things as murder, unjust imprisonment, abandonment of a helpless fragment, and what Michael calls mind-f*ck
(...)

Michael is a reunited Mid-Causal Plane Entity of more than a thousand individual souls. Although in the original books Michael is treated as a plural noun, one way to avoid the resulting grammatical nightmare is to refer to them as "the Michaels." This way using "they" and plural verbs is not so confusing.

The Michaels began imparting their messages about thirty years ago through individuals who "channel" them. After becoming involved with the "Michael Group," author Chelsea Quinn Yarbro wrote four books -- Messages From Michael, More Messages From Michael, Michael's People, and Michael for the Millennium -- based on sessions, transcripts, and interviews.

Right then.

Wait...what?

OK, I figured and believe in karma for the way I live my life...but this is just...wacked. And the way it's explained. I read it several times and I STILL don't understand what entity is apart from the obvious human interpretation as a conscious being of supremacy...of sorts.

So yes. What??

*sighs wearily* I enjoy CQY's series of historical vampire novels, but this is just...just...

It makes the Scientologists sound almost sane. Almost.

Chelsea Quinn Yarbro should have stuck with her vampire books (not brilliant books, but fun reading when you're thirteen as I was when I first read a couple of her novels). It made her seem less... batshit.

So we've got Anne Rice, Laurell K. Hamilton and Chelsea Quinn Yarbro. The lesson here? Don't become a novelist of vampire fiction or you'll go nutters.

You left out LaVerne Ross. Unforgivable of you, really. How you could forget the author(ess) of Night Travels of the Elven Vampire is beyond me.

Oooh, I've never even heard of this author before.

Wow. Not just an elf. Not just a vampire. An elven vampire. And she's mad as a hatter, you say?

Well, the cover of the first edition did look like this, so you might say she's a bit mad.

Yeah, she's barking.
