Blue Wednesday
Oct. 17th, 2007 01:29 pmI got mugged yesterday and it's rather made Wednesday a day of suck. Sigh. In short, I am feeling miserable.
So - what do you do to cheer up on days that just can't seem to do even one right?
Attempts to cheer me up won't go amiss either.

Date: 2007-10-17 12:11 pm (UTC)My day, while not comparable to yours, hasn't started off that well, either. So, I'm going to totally blow off work, read fic and watch TV, and not feel the damndest bit guilty about it.
Here's a thought to cheer you up, since I'm listening to public radio and they're discussing it right now - there are only 387 days until the next presidential election here in the States. While I'm already sick of the primary race, I've started plotting my election party for next fall. My husband and I have these cobalt blue shot glasses with the Great Seal of the United States printed on them in gold (picked them up at the Capitol building in DC, natch), and every state the Dems win, we take a shot.(This works well for congressional elections, too; every seat the Dems pick up we take a shot. We were toasted last fall!) I surely hope I'm stupid drunk by the time the California results come in.
I've never been so grateful in my life (and neither has the rest of the world, right?) for Constitutional presidential term limits.

Date: 2007-10-17 12:40 pm (UTC)Yeah, you don't have the pain Australia has - John Howard just won't go. but eight years is still a long time to endure any President, it seems.
Alcohol improves any election, though.

Date: 2007-10-17 12:18 pm (UTC)In answer:
- Eat chocolate, or similarly unhealthy but tasty food (today, Nachos, but gonna have some chocolate next)
- Cry and sniffle and generally be miserable
- listen to audiobook of Terry Pratchett (maiden voyage of that one. Wasn't too bad)
- Have a nap
*clings to you* Thank god you're ok. Home robbery was it? Or a mugging? You need some better luck, my friend. :(

Date: 2007-10-17 12:44 pm (UTC)Who read the auidobook? Man himself or? Discworld books in general tend to help gloomy feelings, I find.
Oh, mugging. I suck at English today too. Belongings in my bag, basically. It wasn't much money actually - had like maybe 10 AUD in there - but I'm really worried my card is being abused. Also I lost various other things that are a pain to replace. And today has just been... Blergh.
Sighness.

Date: 2007-10-17 12:23 pm (UTC)On days from hell, I usually wrap myself in a comfy blanket, sit down with a cup of hot chocolate, with a big helping of whipped cream on top, and watch at least some bits of Pride and Prejudice. There ain't nothing that Colin Firth can't cure.
*hugs you tightly*

Date: 2007-10-17 12:41 pm (UTC)Cheerful things. Um, John Howard will be gone very very soon? Yes, I have complete faith in this fact. Surely the Australian public have some common sense. As for what to do on those crappy days - snuggling down in front of the TV with junk food and watching mindless television sometimes can help?
I found this picture ages ago, and it's probably not a good thing but every time I look at it I can't help but burst into laughter.
I know, I know. I'm so juvenile it hurts =P

Screw healthy foods - chocolate, tea and whatever is your favourite comfort foods otherwise. I'd post the "Invisible Trousers" macro, but that isn't work safe, and that's where I am. Mayhap later when I get home.
*sets out WoW hunter traps around you*
Now lets see them get to ya.

Date: 2007-10-17 01:56 pm (UTC)My suggestions for feeling better:
- hot chocolate
- throw a quilt in the dryer for fifteen minutes, then snuggle up in it on the couch
- watch a funny movie or youtube random stuff on your computer. From youtube, these always get my mood up:
Ballerina
Star Wars figure skating
Big dancing, small town
If You Were Gay
...the last one featuring Nick and Warrick. It's hysterical.
I hope you feel better :)

As for what I do to cheer up... chocolate and friends. Caffeine and a good movie seems to help too.
If only I wasn't so lacking in finances right now... I'd reimburse you what you lost...

Date: 2007-10-18 11:11 am (UTC)But oh well, karma might do the job, who knows...
And jeez, don't worry about that. I lost less than ten dollars. I'll have to pay for some replacement things, but it's not a huge deal. (It will cost me less than an hour's worth of salary, so I'm not too fuzzed about that.)It's the effort and annoyance and all that I'm feeling blah over. So don't worry and think about that part, really, though the thought is sweet.
