misscam: (What the bloody hell?)
[personal profile] misscam
Argh, weekend and Monday from painful-place-not-quite-on-level-with-Hell. Um, Nullarbor?

Friday - work overload and overtime, mad shopping after, run into Al Gore. (!)
Saturday - Christmas shopping continued, post office scenes of horror, snow.
Sunday - cleaning, cat barfs all over my shoes, rain washes away snow.
Monday - monthly day of fun pain, work overload and overtime coming, modly annoyances, Oslo gone all fortress-y over Peace Prize ceremony.

Blah life. Anyway, all cards and packages should be away now, apart from some on my gift exhange list that are getting Amazon stuff. I hope they all arrive in time, but I no trust Norwegian mail.

I feel worn out and Christmas hasn't even really started.

Today's WTF THE FLAMING F: A judge's decision not to jail nine men guilty of raping a 10-year-old girl in an Aboriginal community has triggered outrage in Australia.

In her ruling, Judge Sarah Bradley told them that the victim "probably agreed to have sex with all of you".

...

I'm going to go somewhere and be ill now.

In other news:
Aw, Sweden wants to defend us now.
Mysterious mammal caught on film. (The cute, it slays. The ears! It's like an elf!mouse.)
Bush gives out wrong number.
Parrot to court over parking fine. (No joke.)
Man stuck in toilet for four days.
Potentially interesting brain discovery.

Stuff I be working on:

Here Be Ghosts, Sara/Grissom:
In the old days, when the world was still unexplored and the unknown still loomed, sailors would write 'Here Be Dragons' on the parts of maps that were simply blank.

The world got explored. The unknown got moved to space.

It should have been moved to humans, Grissom sometimes think. He mapped Sara, explored Sara, loved Sara, and still a large area remained blank, simply a warning written across.

'Here Be Ghosts.'

Normality in November part two, AU!Rose/AU!John Smith, AU!Rose/AU!Doctor:

There are, Rose has decided, approximately six reactions to the discovery your boyfriend is an alien.

1) Freak out.
2) Call News of the World.
3) Look forward to exotic sex.
4) Combine 2 and 3.
5) Change drugs or start on them.

She's working on defining the sixth and hers still. She hopes it has at least some three.

Course, first she has to decide what to do about the other aliens holding her alien and maybe-alien aunt hostage. That alertnative should involve a lot of kicking bottoms. Theirs, if they have. A rough equivalant will do.

"So," she says conversionally, suddenly rather glad it's not the first life-or-death-boyfriend-danger she's been in. She's not having something like losing Mickey again. She's not. "What exactly do you want from the Doctor?"

"We want him."

"Too bad. He's taken."

Void Definitions, post-Doomsday:

There comes a point where the the brain just lets go. Life stops being interactive and becomes a movie, scenes just running without commentary. There is nothing left to say.

It all came out as screams, anyway.

Rose is silent now. She almost thinks she's deaf too, except for a steady ringing in one ear, as if somewhere she's gone too close to a siren. She's cold, she's warm, she's numb. She knows she has cried, but she can't seem to manage even that anymore.

'Oh God oh God ohGodohGodohGod I fell...'

She thinks she might be in pain. She's not sure, because every part of her body has been trying to tell her something and the brain has put them all on hold. She fell a long way, she must be hurting.

Except there never was a bottom.

She rather hopes it will kill her when it finally comes. This isn't life now. This is...

'Oh God oh God oh nothing...'

This is the Void. But it isn't empty and she's not alone.

A TARDIS Carol, Doctor/everyone:

She doesn't travel in time. She *is* time. All that was, all that is, all that will ever be kept in her heart. It has to be there.

He's running out of room.

Eternally owned is only the lost, the TARDIS knows.

The Doctor keeps learning.

Right, that should make this entry long enough, me thinks. How was the weekend for all of you?

I have no idea, but I want to throw fish at her. No one at ten can agree to have sex, for crying out loud. WTF with a side of RAGE.

A bit further down in the article makes me feel even more ill.

The offenders came from some of the most powerful and prominent Aboriginal families in Cape York, while the victim's family had a lower status, the Australian reported.

Am I seeing nonexistent things or judges are getting more..partial?

Hmm. I think there's always been issues in the judicial system, just like the legislative and executive, but maybe not it's more visible because the media reports it?

Either way, FAIL it certainly is.

Don't be silly, of course they can. They get sex ed, don't they? [/sarcasm]

I'll stop now before I do myself an injury. Or get injured by someone who violently disagrees with me. It's times like these that get out the bitter cynic in me.

In the meantime I'm going to try not to wish death on the perpetrators or the judge.

Who needs sex-ed? I'm sure a few trips to the farm will teach them all they need to know in order to give consent.

... That actually hurt to type. ARGH.

Somehow, the fact that the judge was female makes it even worse. Don't ask me how that's possible. I hope she gets defrocked and attacked by rabid wallabies.

It adds some special fail to it, somehow.

She defended herself with that she was giving the sentences the prosecution was asking for - which kinda makes it FAIL on that account too.

Did you and former VP bond over stuff?

Some women should not ever become mothers or judges for that matter. Come to think of it, the two are quite similar at times.

Elfmouse! That's the perfect name for it!

What's new? Hmm. You hear about [livejournal.com profile] projectdownload? Short version is that this person, Erin, has two bugfuck serious brain disorders and needs cash for surgery. But hang on, she's not asking for money, she's got this thing going with MegaUpload where if she receives five million downloads, they give her ten thousand dollars. The problem is that she appears to be running out of time (couple of seizures happened recently and she lost her memory back to May last year), and so people on that comm have been stepping up efforts to try and get her what she needs. One of the ideas tossed up was for folks in fandom to upload fanstuff (fic, icons, art) to her MU account, as a way of racking up clicks. Interested? The comm has more info.

A few things:

1) That judge is fucking insane. Dear god, she should not be allowed to preside.
2) ...wtf, TaC wanker? What is wrong with multi-fandom/pairing posts, so long as there's at least ONE image that's relevant? That person sucks. Seriously. Glad they're not there to spoil my fun anymore. *nodnod*
3) Eeee! *looks eagerly forward to new fic postings*

Oh my fucking God. The only thing about this article that doesn't make me want to vomit is the fact that it's attracted attention, and that Rudd and the Premier have decided to do something about it. Holy cow. Looks like that former-T&C member was just LOOKING for something to rake you guys over the coals for because that was an overreaction if I ever saw one. Love the fact that she was holding you responsible for the layout of someone's own journal.

And that judge...there's just no words strong enough to voice the contempt I have for her. A 10-year-old gave consent? WTF?

That rape case sickens me. The fact that the judge was also a woman and let the offenders go, somehow, adds to that.

My weekend was fairly alright. Worked on Sunday so lots of money. And we had our family Christmas, because my sister is flying to London today (permanently). And there are still another 2 Christmases to go!

I'm speechless, at both that judge's decision and the T&C troll.

Okay, not speechless. But fuming. That judge - a woman said that? She deserves to be fired. That woman does not understand crime full stop, let alone sex crime. How can a ten-year-old consent to anything, for fuck's sake?

I'll shut up on that before I burst a blood vessel.

As for the person on T&C, it screams troll - I don't think I remember her posting much on the comm before this, do I? What the flying fuck makes her think that T&C can tell individual members what kind of layout they can have on their LJs? I'm a member (admittedly not very active) of [livejournal.com profile] lifeonmartha - would she think it reasonable that someone from there could complain about being 'slapped in the face with my Rose/Doctor/Doctor/Jack header?

Her rudeness is astounding, and in no way justified by the perfectly polite posts made by you and [livejournal.com profile] lotus79. Looks to me like a deliberate attempt to stir trouble, and I just hope there wasn't more than one person involved. No doubt the entire conversation is now being used behind flocked posts to claim that T&C is anti-Doctor/Rose, which is complete and utter rubbish.

Still gobsmacked.

Seriously, WTF. Letting them off? Even if you could say that she agreed to have sex with them she's UNDER THE AGE OF CONSENT! That's still rape, no matter how you slice it.

How could they not have been charged for statutory rape AT LEAST!

Your Christmas present arrived today, and it was really a lovely surprise! I have never read anything Per Pettersen so far, but the blurb on the cover sounds really intriguing, and the other book, "How to talk about books you haven't read", made me laugh out loud, quite literally.
