Err, WTF? Charming, that. Definitely keeping that IP if I should ever match it to something. Fuckwit.

Meanwhile, there's romance novel plagiarism wank at f_w and of course, we get a plagiarism case over at T&C. Feh. I mean, sometimes people get similar ideas and can accidentally write somewhat similarly. But word for word? Bad. Trying to escape word for word accusation by paraphrasing, but still pretty much copying someone's fic in your words without permission, credit or anything? Bad. It's really not that hard to grasp.

(Also, that romance author's title choices makes me want to stab my eyes with something sharp and savage.)

In other 'ugh' news, am I the only one to find 'Dr.Phil' a pompous blowhead? I haven't been watching the whole Britney mess too closely as the media handling of it right now seems just a tad repulsive, but I do somewhat share the opinion that the chick seems to need a bit of help. However, I still want to smack Phil inna face. Dude, a vulture is still a vulture even if he has a deep, 'understanding' voice and his own TV show.

And charmingly, Norway's being threatened, this because we've decided to expell Krekar. Of course, we haven't actually done it since 1) Iraq is a mess 2) We do not send extradite people if they risk being executed, even if they are criminals. My bet? He'll die of old age before we get there. I like him about as much as I like mildew on my feet, but I'd rather have him be an annoyance in Norway than facing torture and execution. But he could STFU harder. It keeps the itching down.

Of course, to make the day perfect, have to deal with most.annoying.guy.ever at work. He's applying for a patent, so kinda have to deal with him, but every time he calls, the whole office goes for cover. Today I've had to talk to him three times, yesterday two, Friday four times and ARGH ARGH ARGH GO AWAAAAAAAY. He always has to share his whole lifestory and can't seem to understand that actually, the world does not revolve around his potenital patent application. And he's quite nasty now and then, which several have complained about. Sigh.

Yeah, today's not the bestest of things. I has a headache.

1. Is it possible to ban an anonymous poster based just on their IP? What an ass! Note icon.

2. *points to icon* Seriously? A romance novelist was plagiarizing an activism mag? I shudder to think where she might have gotten her sex scenes from.

3. I can't even handle the sound of Dr. Phil's voice, so no, you are NOT the only one who thinks that...

No, but one can always ban anon posting alltogether. *shrugs*

Yeah, he's not as popular in Norway, but whenever I see ads for his show, I feel an urge to throw something at the screen. Ish.

I might, if this repeats itself. Would be in a flock post and so on. But hopefully this is one-shot asshattery.

I haven't done anything more than signing up one person's address on some nasty spam lists (I swear, he was insistently verbally abusive and I warned him in advance and he had egged my house) but whoising an IP address and going from there is easy. Of course, now that s/he's forewarned, s/he might use a proxy, so you should see if you get other comments and trace the original IP.

Ain't that right. I had my friend who lived in the same building watch my cat while I was at work for a month after that.

I also kept track of his emails sent over his work connection and threatened him I'd contact his superiors. This always works like a miracle.

Given the 'again', it sounds like someone who's read this LJ. But since it ain't flocked, that could be a lot of people.

Internet is a great tool for being nasty without having to face the consequences, really.

If you can put pompous jackass/asshat in the same category, then no. I cannot stand "Dr. Phil". I understand self help, but he's selling short term fixes not long term solutions.

Dr. Phil is just skeevy. I've never cared for his folksy, fame-whoring ways.

(If your plagiarist writes more than d/r, let us know so we can keep an eye out. I have no mercy when it comes to that sort of nonsense.)

No worries, I don't think anyone (normal) isn't totally irritated by Dr Phil. I think most people think he's full of shit. But there's always that dumbass demographic that eats that stuff up. Just look up that book The Secret for a perfect example.

Definitely keep that IP! Track that fucker down and find it's email and sign them up for a ton of obnoxious emails. I'd say some hacking and virus sending would be in order, but that would be illegal. *whistles innocently*

I read more romance novels than is possibly good for (otherwise medieval poetry would take over my brain and my head would explode). But still. The titles are possibly the most godawful things on the planet (not including American politicians, and British sunday trading hours, of course). They're up there with romance novel covers, which usually make my eyes bleed.

1) Anonymouse lacking brain or common courtesy: what a moron. I'd definitely trace the IP - and doesn't that count as abuse under LJ rules?

2) A published author plagiarising? And people defending her and attacking the people who exposed her? Actually, not too surprising. Been there, done that, got that T-shirt, in a slightly different context - in another fandom, we had a new-ish author who was extremely popular for her smutty stories. They all seemed very OOC - which she explained as them being 'AU' - and then after a while she posted one that I recognised as having read before. I asked her about it; she denied it; after a while I found the source: a Harlequin novel. Turned out all her 'stories' were plagiarised from romance novels. She got banned, but all the condemnation went to me for 'witch-hunting' her. Sigh.

3) Saw that fic on T&C - the one with the 'author' claiming to be RTD's niece? Thought it sounded very like one I'd read a few days earlier, but by the time I read the older one and went back to check it'd already been deleted. Nice work!

Hope tomorrow is better - I've got a headache as well, not fun. Drinking buckets of diet Pepsi for the caffeine (and running to the loo every ten minutes to recycle it!) ;-)

I didn't see the plagiarism case on T&C but I caught one a couple weeks ago on Teaspoon and notified the real author. Turned out the idiot (I'm being polite here) had actually posted two of her Tenth Doctor fics; just changed the name of one of her original companions to Martha and I suppose figured that no one would notice. They've been pulled now, fortunately. I *hate* plagiarism. On Tuesday night (first day of term, alas) I gave my grad students a rather forthright speech (I suppose they'd say "rant" - grin) about how cutting and pasting from the Internet is still plagiarism. They have research papers to write in my class this term and I do *not* want to have to flunk someone for plagiarism.

And no, you're not the only one to think Dr. Phil is a waste of airspace that could be better filled with tests of the emergency broadcast system.
