I can has a flu. Blah. Nothing surprising in this, as it's been making its way through work and several relatives as well. But annoying still. Better now, but been having some really tiring days. I want spring.

Stuff:
- There's always some dude whose sex appeal seem to pass me by. Jack from Doctor Who / Torchwood, Nick from CSI. My brain denies me lusting. Woe.
- Why does dislike of a female character so often bring out really nasty female-hating shit? And by women too. What's with all this hate for own gender? Boo.
- Sometimes I find continous subtle digs at another character/ship are more annoying then outright bashing in fanfic. The latter tends to get spotted for what it is, the first tends to be ignored because teh fic is otherwise good. Your opinion of a character =/= the characters you're writing's opinions. Propaganda in fic form does not bemuse me.
- I love icons. But why are sometimes shiny icons ruined by idiotic text? I don't mind text on icons, but romantic declarations of love do not fit every screencap out there. (Says I, hunting for a good GSR kiss icon and some other ship ones.)
- Feeling X-Files nostalgia now, with new movie being shot.
- Gossip Girl - worth watching or not?
- Who wants to get paid LJ time or something similar to make me a new LJ layout?
- Think I need to make a World of Warcraft filter to spare the totally not interested. If you want in on it, say ding.
- Bwhaha, Dame Patricia Anne Elizabeth Genevieve Honora Kennealy Morrison, DTJ.
- I saw an episode of Supernatural on late night television the other day. pretty boys, but I found myself unable to enjoy it too much, since I kept having Greatest Hits of Wankery starring Supernatural on perpetual loop, like a hamster in a wheel. Sometimes I wonder if it's easier to get into a show if you have no knowledge of fandom first.
- Then again, sometimes people get into fandom without much care for the original material.
- The media vulture-feast over Britney is rather revolting me, and I never liked the chick.
- In true to their utterly repulsive nature, the Westboro 'church' declared intensions to picket Heath Ledger's funeral. Yeah. Good luck getting into Australia with that as your stated goal, twitheads.
- The more I read about subprime loands, the more rotten and dodgy I find the whole thing. Capitalism at its very worst, bleh. And now it's making everyone else suffer economically too.
- While I've been loathing Huckabee, CamDad has revealed his hate for Mitt Romney, declaring him the epitome of sleaziness. (CamMum is on the fence.) Arguments ensued over which really is the worst US presidental candidate. Jury's still out. Come on, Huckabee, do something totally assy to ensure my win!

In the news:
Memorial wanted for 'soldier bear' who fought in WWII.
Australian government to apologize for 'Stolen Generation'. (Can we get a ABOUT TIME here?)
Sexual assault victim wins compensation from rapist lotto winner. (The suggested law change is what we have in Norway - you get compensation from the state, the state takes it from the offender if found and convicted.)
Ryanair told to withdraw schoolgirl advert.
High avalanche risk in Norway.

They're going to come to Australia to picket? I am so glad they'll get arrested if they try (provided they're actually let into the country).

They declared their intensions to go to Sweden and protest the Royal family couple of years ago and that never happened, so... Me thinks they are chickens, me does.

Bak bak.

ABOUT TIME.

Which reminds me, I need to do stuff for the Rainbow Serpent, because I begged him for help in dealing with Ozpeople and then my luck turned and...yeah.

I hate women-bashing in fandom. It drives me bananas, and is part of the reason I...left. Or not left, per se, but stay at the fringes and never dive deep.

YES. *glares at Howard*

It gets uglier in some fandoms than in others, I think. Usually the ones with ship/slash conflicts - can't have anyone get in the way of the OTP, after all.

I hate that. I've got a pet theory on how the slash phenomenon is just a meme that's taken hold--but it's fairly...controversial, so sigh.

My mom hates Romney. She lives in Massachusetts and had him for a governor. She is not very political, but she can rant about him with the best of them. I may not like Romney, but Huckabee scares me. I have read some of the things he wants, and little old me who doesn't want any religion to butt into my government wants to run for the hills. This may be mean, but I am glad he is doing rather crappy.

I sense he did things your mum did not approve of. I just see him on television and get an urge to take a shower. Not because I find him creepy, but because he has a certain quality to his media apperance that just makes me think of grease.

Huckabee, it's mostly opinions I feel repulsed by, so that's probably a bit more valid as a reason for dislike.

I hope they both do crappy, and care not one ounce it's mean.

I'm one of those that love Nick/George Eads. I just do. He mashes my personal "Find this man sexy" buttons for a variety of reasons. But everyone has a different set of buttons obviously because I'm also one of those strange ones that has never found Spike/James Marsters particularly sexy.

And Ding. :) 'Cause you know, it's Warcraft. And you're seeing content I might never see unless I hit 80 and come back way over-levelled after Lich King comes out.

It's quite sad that I could go for almost every guy in CSI but Nick. Just. Does. Nothing. But oh well, more for the rest of you.

Hehehe. And yeah, my guild's semi-hardcore about raiding. We're in Serpentshrine Cavern and The Eye mostly these days. Quite fun, in some cases a bit draining. Nice to have alts for more casual playing as well. (My druid is 48 now.)

I want to kill Kael'thas and get phoenix mount. *drool*

*gladly takes more of Nick* ;-)

My guild is casual although it's almost become standstill recently. Most all of the 70s are raiding with other guilds, and it didn't help that one of the officers actually basically said, "Every man for himself. We don't care about you lower levels," after our GL left because she was "bored". There was sort of a mass exodus around that point. So we're still working our way through Outlands (level 66 and counting) and praying we can still pick up some of the dungeons.

Plus, altitis liek woah.

But I can imagine raiding can be fun and draining, just reading about the fights and watching some of the videos. Good luck with Kael! Hope you get your mount. And if you do, post a screenie.

I really need to do a WoW picspam of my own sometime.

Date: 2008-01-30 11:14 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Ouch. It's always sad when guilds implode :( Ours is doing pretty all right, with continued progress. Tend to help each other out too, if alts need a hand in a dungeon or two.

66, huh? So doing Nagrand now or...? When you get to 70, you can pick up some all right gear from the lvl 70 instances, enabling you to at least go some bosses in Karazhan. (Moroes can be a pain to get right at first, though.) Also, flying mount ftw.

There's a vid being made of our first Leo kill, I'm going to post it sooner or later. There's a fight you have to pay serious attention in.

Alas, my chance of phoenix mount is extremely low - it's a rare, rare, rare drop and I'm not sure there's even one of them on my server. And I'd have to win it over 24 other people in the raid. But I can live in hope.

Pic spams are awesome :)

Gossip girl - my sister loves it, she loved the books. I was more meh about the books - really teen drama is teen drama no matter how rich or how fancy clothes they have- and very meh about the tv series. I watched the two first episodes, and didn't feel that I needed to continue watching it.

Haven't even read the books. Just caught it on telly and wondered if it would be going somewhere good. There's nothing else interesting on telly in that timeslot, alas.

I want to see them get into Heath's funeral... only to have their attempted wank stomped... and them too. Aussies do not suffer insolence gladly.

Also, ding!

*ding!*

And to me, Huckabee is worse than Romney; Romney has some very good economics plans. (I still wouldn't vote for him if you paid me in chocolate, but I'll give him that.)

Truthfully, I'd like to see John Edwards getting more support than he's got. I think he's just been....overshadowed by this whole Hilary/Obama politi-wank.

Date: 2008-01-30 07:08 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] siraj.livejournal.com
I think the reason Edwards doesn't get support is for two reasons... one, he backed Kerry up 4 years ago. Two, he was the lawyer that really got the ball rolling on stupid jury verdict amounts (like the smoking cases are a good example, someone dies of emphaseyma and the jury brings back a triple digit verdict in the millions).

Date: 2008-01-30 10:48 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Haven't looked at their economic strategies as much, really. Being Norwegian, that's not my primary concern. But I can totally understand why it would be for anyone living there, given how it goes these days.

Seems like Edwards has pulled out now. That certainly won't cut down on the politi-wank, nooooo.

Don't waste your time watching Gossip Girl, especially if you read the books and liked them. They take something that's a very intelligent-yet-fun social commentary and turn it into another tawdry soap opera. The things they do to the characters are awful. For instance, Vanessa: a chubby, shaved-headed goth girl who marches to the beat of her own drummer. This was too edgy for the show, so they made her... Hispanic or something. Ugh. (With long, gorgeous hair, too.)

As far as Republicans go, I'm gonna go ahead and say I hate McCain the most, because he has the most chance of winning. He's just as much of an asshole as the rest of them are.

*hands you soup and warm blankets* I hope you get over you flu soon, cutie. *hugs*

Haven't read the books; didn't know they existed. And OHNOES, independent!strong!female!normal-looking!goth will totally destroy family values, we can't have that on air!

I liked McCain on his stance against torture and actually going to Svalbard to look into climate change, but I don't get subjected to how he does in the Senate. Since I find the *Democrats* too right-wing for me, it goes without saying opinions of the Republicans are a stratosphere away from my world.

*facepalm* …No, really, I think they should lay off. Bad enough the news took over the bloody media for a few days (although it made a change from the bloody cricket). But why would you bother picketing a funeral? It's not exactly the time to be pushing an agenda.

…The name Fred Phelps sounds slightly familiar, but I could just be managing to get him mixed up with Cardinal Pell. Who's… Roman Catholic. Yeah.

Also, did you see this? I am half revolted, but the other half is literally rolling on the floor laughing hysterically. He really doesn't interface with the planet Earth, does he?
