So, I want to hire a graphic artist to make new layout + some icons. I'll pay you in Amazon stuff or something like that. Knowledge of CCS and so on so you can just set up the whole thing for me is a plus.

On a scale of one to ten, how dumb is that sign? (Story from here, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] moyawyvern.)

Personally, I rate it about 8.5. I mean, I have no love lost for Obama or Clinton or McCain - they're not meant to represent me, anyway, so my preference tends to be "whoever will muck up the world the least and be least embarassing to have as self-proclaimed leader of the free world if aliens invade". But that is Dumb. It's not like Hitler and Hustler could be brothers, and the play on Islam fear is lame, lame, lame.

Meanwhile, Norway has decided Krekar, former leader of a terrorist-group gets to stay. Because we can't send him back as he faces the death penalty. Norway will not extradite anyone who faces execution. Nope, not even to the US. Which on one hand I approve heartily of, but argh, Krekar. Man, having principles burn sometimes.

In the fandoms, apparently a Supernatural writer wants you to fight evil incest by leaving reviews for her fics. Or something. I know all writers want more feedback (hoo yes) but LOL WHUT. I'm not really into incest and prefer het myself, and I was still tempted to just write it to be contrary.

Stuff in my life:
- YES.
- Two bosses down in Black Temple for my guild. I'm so proud, sniff.
- Have sent new BSG story off to beta. Man, I had forgotten the shine of new fandoms and how inspiring it can be. Yay writing urges.
- If the stupid printer/fax/copy machine at work breaks down one more time, I swear I'll go mental.
- Spriiiiiing.
- I need more BSG icons. Hmm.

In the news:
- Khmer Rouge leader gets 'Devil's Advoacte'.
- Northern League eyes top positions in Italy's new government; Cam barfs a little.
- The US Deomcratic party nomination drags on and on and on.
- Wealthy Norwegain art collector dies; leaves his colection unconditionally to Doctors Without Borders.
- Too many moose in Norway?

Okay, that sign rates about 8.5-9 on the Stupid-O'Meter.

And Cam, no feeding the trolls, no matter how fun it may be. :)

I never feed trolls. They'd eat all my chocolate :( And anyway, I suck at writing slash and have only watched 2.5 Supernatural episodes, so fat chance either way.

It's just something about getting about your high horse on other people's preferences that speaks to my contrary side. Must be my inner child, not liking to be told what to do.

Oh yes. I hate being told what to do. It's like yelling at me. I'll just move slower. Niceness gets a better response all around.

Yeah. So tell me not to write porn, and I will. Or something.

I'm in favour at yelling at some things, but man, tone. It matters.

I so didn't realize that sign was from South Carolina until I saw it featured in a news blip that ran during the CSI: Miami that I taped last night. Why, oh why do I live in this state? This is the kind of crap I have to deal with on a daily basis.

Did Horation give it the Sunglass Glare O'Doom?

I found it in an article on a Norwegian newspaper - couldn't find an English version, or I would have linked it. Apparently, the congration was very happy with the sign and voted to keep.

Horatio was just about to put the beat down on a guy, so the sign must have made him very angry.

I didn't get to see the news with the story about it, since I didn't see it until morning, but here is the article from their website. Again, what a lovely state I live in. Why do you think when people ask if I like it here, compared with Massachusetts, all I usually say is "I love the weather."

Heh, all places have their not-so-great sides, I think. No place is perfect. It's just some have bigger sides than others, so to speak.

Thanks!

I would say about a 9 on the stupid meter. My dad actually thought that Obama was Muslim. He kept saying that this Democratic election was about religion, and I was all, "um, no, sex and race," at which point he said, "But the first Muslim person on the Democratic ticket, maybe! Though I'd still vote for him over McCain." At which point I did not say, "Fail. Hard," despite wanting to, and instead explained that no. Just, no.

And that's why it fails extra hard, because that sort of public opinion is insidious--my father's highly educated upper class, and while he tends to rest on his privilege and not check things out, he represents one of the more knowledgeable non-student adults in the town I mostly grew up in. Argh.

At this point, though, I'm worried about the Democratic elections dragging because I fear McCain as a leader. His stated positions on China and Russia have me ready to start building a nuclear war bunker or something. "More hawkish" than Bush on China? Really? It's like these people don't understand our economic position and ties with China, nor that China's currently the ascending star, whereas the U.S. is no longer the superpower it once was. Argh.

Um. On a more positive, less ranting note, Christensen sounds pretty awesome.

To me it matters zilch if he's muslim or Christian - I'm an atheist anyway, so I rate both faiths fairly equal. But in the US, with its weird American-patriotic-Christianity, I imagine it does. Which is why misinformation like that is just...

What's that line - the lie can get around the world before the truth can get its boots on? That's almost depressingly true. And another reason why American politics ain't talking too much to me.

I like that McCain has taken a stand against torture, I really do. But I'm pretty sure on 90% of everything else, I'll be disagreeing with him hard. Not that strange, given he's a Republican of the already conservative US, and I'm a lefty of the already liberal Norway. So, yeah. That wouldn't go too well.

And yeah, China's going up. In a few decades, I really do think they'll match the US economically at the very least. Military, influence... Hmm. Time will tell.

Yes, and especially in regards to the Islamic religion. Even before 9/11, the U.S. in general had a distrusting and negative view of Muslims. Since then, it's reached the point of outright paranoia. And Over half of U.S. Americans want the president to be religious, though I would argue that despite the results that said "a majority of Americans (66 percent) said the candidate’s specific religious affiliation is not relevant to their voting decision," there would be a complete reversal if asked specifically about a Muslim president.

Personally, I believe firmly in separation of church and state (despite it currently being more of a pipe dream than a reality).

I appreciate McCain's stance on torture, but I'm very, very hard left these days, and am thus opposed to most of his domestic stances, too. I worry that he may be president anyway, because the polarization of the democratic party has led to more people flocking to him, simply by dint of being the one candidate who isn't receiving near-daily negative coverage and attacks.

1. Are you looking for a new layout for your journal, or for some place else? I'd be willing to help out with your journal, but I don't really have the time right now to work on a full web page. I'm most proficient working with Component and Flexible Square layouts, but am wiling to work with others as well. Let me know :-)

2. That sign is a goof 9-9.5 on the stupidity scale. The sad thing though? I've met a number of people that feel that way *sigh*

3. Ahh, SPN wank. How we love thee. Not going to read the links as F_W usually leads to badness in my head. Personally, I don't dig on the Wincest or RPF/RPS, but amazingly, I've managed to fine plenty to read and write and DO in that fandom that didn't involve knocking the people who do. I think every fandom has aspects that can make certain people uncomfortable. I usually just try to stay away from those posts. I've only ever written gen stories for SPN, and I only read gen stories for SPN, and there are plenty of those out there, so there really is no need to get involved in the Wincest/RPS if it disturbs you (it does bother me, which is why I avoid it). *shrugs*

1. My LJ. Basically, I want a header custom-made, one of LJ's layouts adapted and some icons that match too. If you look at how it is now, I like having some custom links and so on.

3. Yeah, fandoms are such diverse places of tastes and likes you rather do kinda have to live with some things that isn't to your personal yay factor. You'd never get anything done if you crusaded against everything you didn't love. I feel exhausted just thinking about it.

I'm on board then, if you'd like :-) My current journal layout is component, and I'm using flexible squares over at [livejournal.com profile] _eternal_icons (although I didn't make the header there mind, that was a contest winner) if you'd like to see some stuff I've done. Feel free to email me at skybound2 @ livejournal.com with any particulars you have (color scheme, preferred layout, images/theme to be used for your header and icons (ie. a particular fandom)) etc., and I'll start working on something for you :-)

I feel exhausted just thinking about it.
That's pretty much my feelings on the subject. Life's exhausting enough as it is, without adding that kind of drama to it.

I've started collecting images here: http://s3.photobucket.com/albums/y64/MissCamilla/Layout/

Basically, what I am imagining is a "Complicated is the whole point" header with various ship I have. Aside from that, I'm fairly open to what colours and how it should be set up. As long as it's not pink, that colour has never agreed with me.

So you think you could manage that? I will bribe you in a choice of Amazon product or something else you want.

See, it makes way more sense to point out that Obama's middle name is Hussein--and dumbfucks do it all the time, of course, in order to "prove" that he really IS an evil liberal out to corrupt America.

Le sigh.

I was coming over to comment about layout assistance, but I see you found somebody. Awesome!

As far as that sign, that's just tragic. That's just about as relevant as pointing out that John Mccain has the same first name as John Wayne Gacy or some shit. Obviously people who indulge in this manner of stupidity are also those who are uneducated enough not to realize how the name Hussein is just as common in other areas of the world.

And Osama and Obama are not even the same fucking word. What the hell?

Obama is all that is love and rightness… I hope to god I get to ogle HIM in the oval office for the next four years.

That sign... ARGH!!!! I want to hit the so-called pastor over the head with it. Isn't Christianity supposed to be about love? Why foster hatred - because that's exactly what it's all about. And even if Obama was Muslim, which he isn't, what right has a church got to attack someone for having a different religion?

But, of course, that's not all it is. That's just what they're claiming it is. It's a very nasty way of making people associate him with terrorist atrocities, which is both slanderous and, IMO, incitement to religious/racial hatred.

Me, I give it a 12/10 on the stupid/offensive scale. :P

I was thinking a 9 or so on the stupid scale, but then I realized how un-original it was and bumped it up to a 9.5. Plus, I'm sure they have a question mark they simply can't be bothered to use.

Ugh, IS THE DEMOCRATIC NOMINATION DRAGGING ON OR WHAT? I don't know, by the time it gets to Oregon people might still be interested! It would be very nice for my vote to actually mean something, but seriously, can't it be November yet?
