The world actually is awesome
May. 5th, 2008 12:53 pmSo, on a more cheerful note than most of this weekend, I bring you:
The Commercial of Awesome, particulary if you're a Discovery Channel fan. (Which I am.)
For all the gloom, the world actually is damn awesome. So, I give you Ten Reasons the World is Awesome (for Me Right Now):
1. It's spring. The trees and grass are green, birds have started mating rituals, my cat has started tanning his fur, the sun is warmer and life feels all the more precious for starting anew.
2. Battlestar Galactica is shiny and awesome and new to me, and has spurred urges to write again. Also gave me new ships (Roslin/Adama, Helo/Sharon, Galactica/the TARDIS, pretty people/orgies) and reminded me why fandom is also awesome.
3. The Norwegian state is giving me back about 2500 USD in overpayed taxes. Whoo.
4. Football. It's a silly game, but I don't give a toss. Go Tromsø! Go Bodø-Glimt! Go Euro and give me lots of awesome, exciting games! Go hot males so I may ogle!
5. Svalbard used to have dinosaurs. This is nothing but awesome.
6. Bananas exist.
7. People of awesome are in my life. My family, my friends, my flist, my work colleagues, the guy at the train that makes funny jokes during delays, my guild, the strangers that pass by my life but still leave little joys.
8. People like my writing enough to say nice things about it.
9. It's almost Eurosong time. You know what that means - crack, horrible costumes, bad singing, biased voting, silly dancing, BBC snark and Very Bad Hosts with Very Bad Jokes. It's awesome!
10. The summer forcast promises a lovely, warm summer for Norway and I am having
falena84 over.
Give me ten reasons of yours, I dare you. (Or as many or few as you can think of.) They can be as silly as you like - but hey, you might find some people share them ;)

Date: 2008-05-05 11:36 am (UTC)Love the icon, by the way.

Date: 2008-05-05 11:47 am (UTC):) They're my new strangely aww-cute-yet-also-scary-and-fucked-up pairing of choice. And they're having a cuddle, because life is awesome.

Date: 2008-05-05 11:55 am (UTC)They are an adorable couple. The ep that your icon came from is just full of great shippy moments for them. I have your fics with them bookmarked, just waiting for me to finish my catch up of DW.

Date: 2008-05-05 12:10 pm (UTC)There are certainly more fans of them on my flist than I expected, heh. And yeah, that's a great episode for them. They've had some really nice moments in season four as well, though I am worried BSG is going to break my heart...

Date: 2008-05-05 12:17 pm (UTC)Unfortunately, with this show, that is almost a guarantee. Won't stop me from watching it, though.

Date: 2008-05-05 12:35 pm (UTC)The ride can still be worth it.

Date: 2008-05-05 11:50 am (UTC)2. Going to San Fransisco for a conference that starts Friday. w00t for networking and learning more about running a wiki.
3. Fan History will likely crack the top 100,000 traffic wise according to Quantcast later this week if current traffic keeps up. :-D
4. The Chicago Cubs. I love them, and love to ride the emotional train of losses and wins and home town spirit and distractions that the Cubs provide.
5. The Chicago area in the summer. It is lovely. And entertaining.
6. Freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. Yum. Yum. Also, yummy! yum!
7. Yesterday, my house was clean. That was all exciting because I function so much better in clean.
8. Rumors of CSI finale including Jorja Fox. I live off hope, even if it isn't likely.
9. I have some truly awesome friends who put up with numerous neurotic e-mails and IMs.
10. Clothes. Also clothes. I really love my wardrobe. And my shoes. Getting dressed every day in a nice outfit goes a long way towards keeping up my mood. :-D

Date: 2008-05-05 12:01 pm (UTC)And also reminded me the world is awesome because ice cream exists in summer. I'm so gonna get one after work.
Half the fun of winning in sport is having stuck around for the losing too. *nods sagely*

Date: 2008-05-05 12:20 pm (UTC)When your team's nickname is the Lovable Losers, half the fun is wallowing in your inability to win. :)
Icecream rocks.

Date: 2008-05-05 12:33 pm (UTC)Been some time since my team did great, but I live in hope and will settle for not sucking for now :D

Date: 2008-05-05 12:44 pm (UTC)Is Norway's Eurovision entry likely to be filled with suck? :) What other teams do you cheer for?
no subject
Date: 2008-05-05 01:00 pm (UTC)My teams are all Norwegian - Tromsø, Bodø-Glimt, Tromsdalen, Norway's national team, sometimes a bit Blackburn and Aston Villa and also Scotland's second worst team.
I also watch Australia in the World Cup and Denmark. Denmark plays football of love - too bad they failed to qualify for the Euro.

Date: 2008-05-05 12:04 pm (UTC)Yay for tax refunds and sunny weather and everything else good :)

Date: 2008-05-05 12:12 pm (UTC)Science fills me with so much love for life :D
How's life across the pond, BTW? Missing Norway?
no subject
Date: 2008-05-05 01:37 pm (UTC)Life across the pond is...busy! There's something about living/working in a tourist trap beach area that makes this time of year more stressful than usual - imagine that.
My horsie and kitties are all well and I love 'my' little house
except the one acre yard that needs mowing weekly, did I mention I have a walk-behind mower??. Can't complain :)And I'm driving to Canada this weekend - Niagara Falls and Toronto, yay! I'll send you a postcard.
-Oh, and 1/20/09 is coming up...no Bush means you can come visit.
;)
no subject
Date: 2008-05-05 01:47 pm (UTC)And yeah, I said I'd come visit when Bush was President no longer, didn't I? Hmm. Well, the dollar is low and I have plenty of money saved up, so I could if I wanted. I would have to work out where to go and who to visit and what-not, of course.
no subject
Date: 2008-05-05 02:12 pm (UTC)Ah yes, which reminds me - I *do* miss Norway, especially this time of year... But where I earn Dollars it is insanely expensive for me to go home, and don't even ask me about Lånekassen :(
-Planning on a Christmas visit though, it's been two years too long. My door's open anytime you want to make the trek!

Date: 2008-05-05 12:40 pm (UTC)And yes, Roslin/Adama make sense in a very frakked up universe, and BSG continues to stun me every episode I watch.
Okay = my list of Ten Reasons the World is Awesome (for Me Right Now):
#1 - I'm enjoying a long weekend as today is a public holiday.
#2 - This means that I don't have to teach 2 nightmare classes this week.
#3 - UNIT are shiny again and THE BRIG IS STILL ALIVE
#4 - I've almost finished my first original story which is also my first full length novel
#5 - I've just got a whole new DVD box set of Mythbusters to watch (Collection 3)
#6 - I've just finished reading the first collected Sandman volume and it is awesome. I have discovered a wonderful new graphic novel world to enjoy.
#7 - Our laundry pile is virtually non existent. This is a rare and precious thing.
#8 - There's a Time Team special on Channel 4 tonight that I haven't seen: 90 minutes of Tony, Phil & co digging up cool stuff
#9 - I'm going to give myself a couple of hours to paint and listen to old Sherlock Holmes plays later today
#10 - My hubby is (as always) absolutely brilliant.

Date: 2008-05-05 12:56 pm (UTC)Also, damn, I should totally get me some Mythbusters on DVD as well. Then again, if I started getting Discovery DVDs, I might never stop.
Sir Brig. Hehehe.

Date: 2008-05-05 12:46 pm (UTC)I work with a guy from Ireland who picked this as one of the things that he misses most from home. He showed us a video of one of the songs from... Ukraine I think, and wow... just wow. I wonder what it would be like to do something like that here.

4) Spring after an icy winter.
5) Azalea bushes in blossom.

4. I've been more creative as of late, which I always enjoy.
5. Shit has been going down, but I've been staying out of it and keeping my nose clean.

The List
Date: 2008-05-06 08:45 am (UTC)2. My country's having its 60th birthday tomorrow... -wipes away tear- Even though the government's f*cked up, I love this place.
3. I'm back in school with my friends.
4. I have 2 book reports to give in and 3 writing assgnments to give in as well.
5.The Eurovision contest. I bet on our contestant with my friend, and I'm hoping I win... but neither of us bet that he'd win first plce, so THAT's not a worry. We barely ever stay in the top 12, let alone recieve the full 12 points.
6. Me drink lots of water, and that makes me happy.
7. OMFG COLDPLAY'S NEW ALBUM. Which is coming out here on the 21st of June, which is my birthday. PWN.
8. Grey's Anatomy and the 'cheesy love/bizzare medical problems' combination that we all know and love.
9. Fanfiction, BETAs and the PPC: they are awesome to the nth degree.
10. And so is music. And chocolate. Preferably at the same time. =]
Bonus 11. We might have not won the prior World Series, you nasty Red Sox fans, but just remember who won 27 TIMES. HAHAHA.
(I think it was 27, I'm not sure. Correct me if I'm wrong, Yankee faithfuls!)
