As the total crack tradition that is Eurosong is a week and a half away, I feel it's time to warm up. In case you're sadly uninformed, this is what Eurosong is all about.

Finest crack Europe has to offer, people. Finest!

Which brings us to the particpants for Eurovision Song Contest 2008.

Now for some selected countries:

- OMG SPAIN WHAT CRACK ARE YOU ON
- WTF PIRATES?
- And representing Ireland is... A puppet!
- The boyband.
- Russian prettyboy from their second place in 2006 is back.
- The entry Cam wants to hit with apples for being annoying.
- WTF Mission Impossible Eurosong?
- Iceland sings into a duster.
- Georgia brings you A Very Important Message.
- Estonia has dancing with flags.
- Bulgaria just wants you to dance.
- I have no idea what Bosnia is trying to tell me.
- Norway's fairly inoffensive entry.

Opinions, horrified screams, some you actually like?

And just to remind you all how bad it can get - Last year's UK entry. Click it. I dare you.

We are sending a Pop Idol band. We're so lame...

Meh. Russia's resending prettyboy, so you won't be alone in going for that.

It's usually the sort of thing no one remembers you for two weeks later, though.

I wouldn't go so far as to call any entry with an annoying former idol contestant inoffensive… and it is sooo boring. I need the Eurovision crack from my own country as well...

Compared to most of the rest, the Norwegian entry doesn't bug me too much. Singer does, though. But meh. We've entered with worse.

I'm not convinced we'll do particulary well, though. Not remarkable enough.

The thing you need to win Eurosong is a catchy refrain/tune/schtick, or a singer with apparently a remarkable ballad ... so that people will remember the song when the time comes to vote. (Or, many neighbouring countries who vote for you)

Honestly, I've heard the Norwegian song four times and I couldn't pick it out of a random selection...

Or you need something kinda different, like our Nocturne or Finland's orcs doing rock.

It is, as you say, about being remembered when votes come and having enough friends. Eurosong really is a sort of alliance-attention competion.

I like the Euro qualifying show better than the main event (think they broadcast it a few nights before?). In the UK it is usually presented by Paddy O'Connell who is completed drunk by about half way through. I couldn't believe it when the Danish tranny failed to get to the main competition final last year.

I have no idea what entry Britain are sending this year. As my own country doesn't compete anymore (Italy) I'm going with my Dad's home country, Sweden.

Wonder if Austria will have another insane entry this year? Or France have stuffed cats again?

It's times like this that I'm ashamed to be British.

I was rooting for Dustin but now I've seen there are PIRATES in this year my allegiance may have switched...

Oh, good god...

Out of curiosity, I looked to see what my country of birth is entering. Dustin the Turkey - WTF? Though I do like the complete lack of any attempt to take the contest seriously. Love the lyrics. It's a complete send-up, and it's hilarious :)

Is it sad that the pirates were the only thing I actually didn't get a "WTF?" face on while watching? They seemed...normal.

Best. Eurovision summary. Ever.

I admit I liked the Spanish entry at first (didn't vote for it, but I thought it was, well, CRACK). Now that my kids have been singing/dancing it for three months, I'm sick of it.

I'm therefore rooting for Dustin, or for the pirates!

I was just picking through the entries the other night. My top pick is definitely Dustin the Turkey. I have to admit the idea of sending a turkey to an international song contest would never have occurred to me...I guess my Irish is too diluted. I can't believe Russia's sending Dima Bilan again. Backstreet Boy wannabe.

I think this is the one time I've been happy to say "No, I'm not Irish, I just live here." My (Irish) friends are all horrified. :~D

Then again, people may actually remember Dustin the turkey. I doubt many people will remember our song, which is bland in the extreme. Shame, since the singer is actually very good.

I may look at other entries later, although I prefer not to have seen them until during the final. One of our friends from the US has never seen Eurosong before, so we've determined to make an evening out of it.

...Poor girl. :~P

I think Ireland will win. How can they not. I predict we'll get 4 points this year. Go UK!

My family voted to send Scooch to the contest last year. We have a tradition of voting for the worst act in the qualifiers - a tradition that seems to be shared by the rest of the UK, given how consistently awful our offerings are.

I just like watching the political alliances play out as the points get tallied up. :p And the fantastic amount of crack, of course. France's stuffed cat for the win.

*goes to look at this year's entries* Oh, Eurosong. How you test my ability to Just Look Away.

I admit this with altogether too little shame - I'm skipping across the sea to England for a holiday that weekend, and I did actually take the Eurovision into consideration when planning when to go.

I will do my patriotic duty, and vote for a turkey puppet fashioned from sacking and ping-pong balls.

I love Eurovision.

I wish I could understand the Estonian entry. The giant vegetable cut outs had me intrigued.
