Inspired by this poll of [livejournal.com profile] honorh, I got to thinking - if you could make any fictional pair the Doctor's new companions, who would you pick?

(Because he's had just one for a while now - it's time for more, y/y?)

Shows includes are some I don't watch, so I've just taken outside opinion on who might be awesome. Feel free to argue!

[Poll #1203741]

OPINIONS?

I voted for Sam and Dean, because I love them and because it would be nice to have a pair of companions who are more devoted to each other than to the Doctor for a change, but I've just realised that what that poll really needs is an option for Holmes and Watson.

Well, there's a "House and Wilson" option... :-)

I rather went with fictional characters currently on TV, it seems. because they're from teh same medium as the Doctor or some such reasoning. But yes, that should have been an option.

OH WELL.

I second the above comment that calls for a "Holmes/Watson" option. Also, I'd like Bret and Jemaine from Flight of the Conchords, just because that would be adorable.

Or Michael and Dwight from The Office. Or Jim and Dwight.

Don't know Flight of the Conchords. Do I suck?

I'm too in love with the UK version of The Office to give the US one a fair shot, but I do hear good things about it.

From: [identity profile] spaced-oddity.livejournal.com
You don't suck! They're a folk-comedy duo from New Zealand and they've recently gained popularity due to their one-season television show on HBO. Here is an example of one of their songs being performed live, and here is a clip from the show.

And I understand the hesitation to try out the US version if you're already a big fan of the UK version. More often than not, British TV shows should just not be remade in the States. (case in point - Life On Mars, cough cough)
However, if you ignore the first season of the US Office, it's different enough to be funny on its own terms. Here's a brief clip from it.

Aaaand this comment has enough YouTube links in it, I think. XD Haha, sorry.

I shall check out the links when I get home.

US Office has recently started airing on a channel here just in the timeslot I sit down to eat dinner at, though, so I have considered watching it. We shall see.

Possibly I'll miss Martin Freeman too much.

Voted for Mummy Laura and Old Man Bill, though I think it'd be fun to have One and Three (Cavil and D'Anna) onboard the Tardis. Snark galore. :-)

Josh Lyman and Donna Moss. Just *because*, and there'd be more than enough snerk for all...

Date: 2008-06-12 03:29 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] wiccagirl24.livejournal.com
OMG! And the Doctor and Josh would get into these theoretical fights about how to handle a situation and by the time they were done arguing they would find that Donna's already done the practical thing and resolved the situation.

Even though I don't even watch Smallville, I still thought the idea of Chloe and her camera going around the universe was too awesome a concept to pass up. That would be a crossover of the PUREST WIN.

See, I don't watch Smallville either, apart from occasionally surfing by it, and the idea of Chloe travelling with the Doctor as a journalist still tickled my fancy like whoa.

I said Addison and Bailey for kicks, but I agree with the whole Spike and Angel as companions. That would be hilarious.

Firstly, how dare you make me choose between Mulder and Scully and Adama and Roslin!!! *cries*

I went for Mulder and Scully in the end because, hello, David Tennant and Duchovny on my screen?! AT THE SAME TiME?! I WOULD LITERALLY EXPLODE!!! *FANGIRL* :P

But, you know, Laura and Bill would be wicked awesome too. XD

None of those do much for me. I went with Scully and Mulder cos they were the closest fit, thoug I don't really see it.

I can't think of anyone. I just don't get crossovers, sadly.

I'm sure they'd have interesting discussions about immortality and sword techniques. And possible whether or not a satsuma is cheating.

But since you don't enjoy crossovers, you can always entertain yourself with more of that one of a kind you-know-who's writing of your ship. I just know it tickles you so.

Ford Prefect and Arthur Dent. Arthur might finally get a decent cup of tea, and Ford would act all cool but secretly be dying of excitement, because it's the Doctor and Ford's a Guider and word gets around, y'know?

(I'd put in a vote for some of the NCIS crew, too, but I can't choose which two!)

I voted other because my all time fictional pairing to go with the Doctor would be Steed and Mrs. Peel.

House and Wilson would be a crack up.

Somehow I think the Doctor and Steel in the same place would end up in massive trouble.

I voted for OTHER, because I'd like to have Sam Tyler and Gene Hunt from Life on Mars travel with the Doctor! I know the universe would probably implode, but still...

After all, Sam is a sort of time-traveller (within his mind) who's got the Master's features and shares Rose's surname, while the old dinosaur Gene would marvel at the beauty of all the different times and spaces... and possibly beat all villains to pulp. I can almost hear him tell Sam: "Oi, we're not in 1973 Manchester anymore, Dorothy! Stop sulking, you poncey git." ;)

I choose Bailey and Addison, not necesarily because I like Grey's Anatomy much anymore (I've completely given up on it actually), but I just think Bailey'd be hilarius with the Doctor, espicially if it was like...Tennant.

I'd actually really enjoy a Lost/Doctor who combination where the Doctor travels with like...Sawyer and Shannon. That'd be fun.

I voted Adama and Roslin because, OMG, the paranoia! (And they might not even want to go to Earth ever again after seeing it through the Doctor's eyes).

But you also know I'd to see it be my OTP, Aziraphale and Crowley, because I would love to see the Doctor coping with being stuck with beings even more powerful and even less sane than himself.

I voted for Sam and Dean, but as I said on [livejournal.com profile] honorh's poll, I'd rather have Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond. :D Though, someone else mentioned Angel and Spike - yes. That would be infinitely hotter.

If you want characters from Heroes, why go for the whiny brothers? Hiro and Ando would be a much better choice. They're more likeable, more humourously inept, and Hiro's a time traveller anyway. Imagine the kind of temporal funkery that could result from him time-teleporting out of the Tardis while it's travelling through time in the opposite direction. You'd have to do some twisted form of nerd calculus to figure that one out.

House and Wilson.
Simply because you'd have a TARDIS full of doctors.
And because having Hugh Laurie and David Tennant on my screen at the same time would make both my mother and I extreeeemely happy.

And then you'd get them all bickering and arguing with each other.

I voted for Mulder and Scully, because as epic win as A/R travelling with The Doctor, space travel and the like aren't completely new for them. And then I picture Mulder & Scully's reactions to the new people and new places and new sights and just lmao.

I voted for Mulder/Scully, just because it's right up their alley, and I don't think they'd be too surprised.

Admittingly, I didn't see the House/Wilson one. Because that would just scream of crack!fic. Oh, and Adama/Roslin would also be fantabulous.
