misscam: (The Doctor watches BSG)

Pop quiz time!

Your brother's girlfriend asks if she can read your Doctor Who fanfiction after you (accidentally under the influence of alcohol and geekery) revealed you have written so. Do you:

1) Share it?
2) Share the gen and hide the porn?
3) Pretend you will share it and then 'accidentally' forget to?
4) Fall out a window and suffer amnesia about where you stored it?

Your bother finds out via his girlfriend you've also written Battlestar Galactica stuff. He wants to read. Do you:

1) Hastily write something bad and gen to share with him since all your fics are rather relationship-focused?
2) Share it and pray he finds it too girly to read much?
3) Share it all and scrub the mental pictures of your brother enjoying reading sex scenes you've written from your mind?
4) Find some horrid badfic online, pass it off as your own and scar him so much he'll never ask again?

You suddenly remember your mother once sent you an e-mail about finding your website some years ago from a link in the e-mail sig you were stupid enough not to remove. It has plenty of fics on it nowadays. Do you:

1) Hope she hasn't been tracking it? Really hard?
2) Feel weird about writing porn for a couple in the same age group as your parents because this means you concede your parents could very well be at it like rabbits too?
3) Make sure you brother and mother are never alone in a room to compare notes?
4) Concede your whole family is whacked and just have another bottle of wine?

(As some of you might know, my brother and his lovely long-term Dutch girlfriend are visiting me. Last night her and I got to chatting about stuff. A little too much chatting, yes. She and brother both like Doctor Who after getting intoduced to it via me, and brother is fast becoming a BSG fan.)

These are PRESSING ISSUES, as you can tell. Also, now I feel extra naughty for writing BSG adult stuff while they were here. Oops? (But on the bright side, I finished that fic and sent it to beta, so yay I'm productive?)

In other news:

- At last, 30 degrees here! OH HAI THAR SUMMER. Finally, hot and sunny and it's supposed to last all of tomorrow before we get rain again. Which means tomorrow, I'm going swimming in the lake. Hurrah.

- Doctor Who makes fandom_wank again, and it's still not companion wank. Wow.

- Google must divulge the viewing habits of every user who has ever watched any video on YouTube, a US court has ruled. Say what now with the what? Am I the only one to find this somewhat worrying?

- Spoilery pictures of location shooting for the BSG finale. Oooh. Want to see now please?

My sister knows I write fanfic but she has like no understanding as to how it works, so she keeps trying to get my fic out of me....but no! (maybe cos she's my baby sister, even tho she's nearly 22, I don't want her to see anything porny that I've written).

Yeah, my brother is younger than me as well, but since he's 25 I doubt anything I write would be a huge surprise to him. STILL, it would be weird and weird and did I mention weird?

Porn-sharing is one family activity I'd rather not start.

*giggling madly*

Or, extra option-- get your sibling to beta-read your porn? ;D

(Yes, [livejournal.com profile] gaia_kiari has!)

... BRAIN MELTDOWN REBOOT REBOOT.

Nah, my brother doesn't quite have the English skill :P My English is significant better than his since I lived in Australia for a time, though he is good too. And anyway, somehow it's more awkward because he's a boy. I think I'd be slightly more comfortable with a sister, but a brother is all I got.

So you still have a job :P

BECAUSE THE WORLD AND SCI-FI ARE BOTH CRUEL.

I need more spoilers to sustain me, dammit.

I'd kill for 30... it's been no less than 33 here for the past week and more. it was 38 yesterday.

I don't wanna win! it's supposed to be 33+ the rest of the week and on onto next week!

Oh, wow, that's quite the dilemma. lol.

I would die if my parents found out about my fic writing, and I don't even write porn or write that often! lol. My sister knows I write & read but she doesn't seem too bothered. Thank God.

I think more wine is probably the best idea!! :P

Also, your icon? MADE OF WIN! XD

Date: 2008-07-03 10:15 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Icon is totally sharable. Made by [livejournal.com profile] superheroine if you want it. I had to have it - crash of my two fandoms, hee.

Wine is always a good idea, yes. Unless I get really drunk and wake up tomorrow to find I've let them both read everything I've ever written. Then I would have to jump out the window.

Haha!! Yeah, maybe not such a great idea then...

*G* I have actually answered my dad when he asks on the phone what I'm doing-- "writing Abby/Ziva porn."

Google must divulge the viewing habits of every user who has ever watched any video on YouTube, a US court has ruled.

Doesn't that violate same sort of privacy law? I really didn't get why they need to see what people watch on youtube?

Date: 2008-07-04 09:00 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Because Viacom is going after YouTube for copyright infringement and wants it documented how much people watch stuff there that is copyright infringement. Or something along those lines.

But yeah, I find it potentially so dodgy in relation to privacy, erk.

Makes me weary about trying to find Dr Who this weekend or would it be restricted to Viacom's stuff only.

My grandmother read my first NC-17 piece when I was fifteen, and she sometimes visits my fanfiction.net account (I can't let go). But she really had no interest in what I'm writing aside from "writing well" or "why can't you write a story with cats and dogs that talk?"

That said, I squirmed when I thought she'd read my femslash, bwa.

porn sharing. it could be a new family tradition. you're such a trend setter.

i'm thinking :

1. share the gen
2. share and pray he finds it too girly to read
4. wine- there are times when nothing else will make family seem at least quasi-normal. and sometimes, we just really need family to be some kind of sane.

enjoy the nice weather while it lasts and have a great weekend :o)

I'm not the person to ask these questions. I'm the one who discovered her eldest nephew (17, 18 at the time) had been downloading anime porn while housesitting, and groused to my sister that he didn't save any of it to the hard drive ("Tell him there's a porn folder for a reason!"). We...are perhaps not the most normal family. :D

I am SO glad nobody IRL has ever asked to read my fic, although my mother keeps mentioning that I write stuff like that to people she knows and that I've never met before. Erm, awkward.

Solution: get brother, brother's girlfriend and mother so drunk they don't remember asking to read your stuff - although if you could find a really terrible Sue and pass it off as your own I'd love to see the looks on their faces.

Thankyou, I needed a laugh today LIEK WHOA. My Mum found a poem I wrote once when I stupidly left it on the coffee table. And it wasn't porny, just kind of crap. And she kept saying how it was sooo good and I should write music to go with it and make it a country song.

Um, yeah. Luke's occasionally shown a bit of interest in my writings, but strangely only when I am in the process. And I won't show him unfinished stuff. He doesn't like reading anyway, though I wouldn't be too bothered about showing him something finished cos, well... there's not much bashfulness left there after ten years cohabitating.

I have class, gotta go!

I don't think I'd share any porny fanfic with my brothers. I haven't written anything that's really all that explicit, but I don't tend to share even fanfics other people write with any of my RL friends or family.

I've always wondered how that kind of stuff goes down with authors, in general. I mean, my dad has betaed the manuscripts my brothers have written. Those don't have sex in them, but I'm more than a little sure that any book I might end up writing would. In that case, my father is NOT proof-reading it.

It's bad enough he had to have sex for me to exist.

Two of my younger sisters are aware I write, and have read stuff. One of them I showed it to, the other one went poking around an old computer and found some old fics. From finding them, she also had the ff.net username (back then)… and the road was short from googling title of fic, to finding the rest.

Moral: if you don't want them finding all of it - don't show them any.

Oh my goodness. I'm feeling so lucky that I don't write anything regularly. Although, whenever I am reading smutty, I do get a little worried that someone is going to come up to the computer and just glance at what I'm reading.

As far as yout temp's go, 30 might be nice, but here it's always at least 44 in the summer. Then again I do live in the middle of a desert and I need a jacket whenever it gets to like, 20... *shrug*

I'd totally throw myself out of the nearest window to pretend afterwards that I'd forgotten that fanfiction exists at all. But then, I'm a) easily embarassed and b) a complete prude. :)
