Pop quiz time!
Your brother's girlfriend asks if she can read your Doctor Who fanfiction after you (accidentally under the influence of alcohol and geekery) revealed you have written so. Do you:
1) Share it?
2) Share the gen and hide the porn?
3) Pretend you will share it and then 'accidentally' forget to?
4) Fall out a window and suffer amnesia about where you stored it?
Your bother finds out via his girlfriend you've also written Battlestar Galactica stuff. He wants to read. Do you:
1) Hastily write something bad and gen to share with him since all your fics are rather relationship-focused?
2) Share it and pray he finds it too girly to read much?
3) Share it all and scrub the mental pictures of your brother enjoying reading sex scenes you've written from your mind?
4) Find some horrid badfic online, pass it off as your own and scar him so much he'll never ask again?
You suddenly remember your mother once sent you an e-mail about finding your website some years ago from a link in the e-mail sig you were stupid enough not to remove. It has plenty of fics on it nowadays. Do you:
1) Hope she hasn't been tracking it? Really hard?
2) Feel weird about writing porn for a couple in the same age group as your parents because this means you concede your parents could very well be at it like rabbits too?
3) Make sure you brother and mother are never alone in a room to compare notes?
4) Concede your whole family is whacked and just have another bottle of wine?
(As some of you might know, my brother and his lovely long-term Dutch girlfriend are visiting me. Last night her and I got to chatting about stuff. A little too much chatting, yes. She and brother both like Doctor Who after getting intoduced to it via me, and brother is fast becoming a BSG fan.)
These are PRESSING ISSUES, as you can tell. Also, now I feel extra naughty for writing BSG adult stuff while they were here. Oops? (But on the bright side, I finished that fic and sent it to beta, so yay I'm productive?)
In other news:
- At last, 30 degrees here! OH HAI THAR SUMMER. Finally, hot and sunny and it's supposed to last all of tomorrow before we get rain again. Which means tomorrow, I'm going swimming in the lake. Hurrah.
- Doctor Who makes fandom_wank again, and it's still not companion wank. Wow.
- Google must divulge the viewing habits of every user who has ever watched any video on YouTube, a US court has ruled. Say what now with the what? Am I the only one to find this somewhat worrying?
- Spoilery pictures of location shooting for the BSG finale. Oooh. Want to see now please?

Date: 2008-07-03 09:22 pm (UTC)Porn-sharing is one family activity I'd rather not start.

(Yes,

Date: 2008-07-03 09:25 pm (UTC)Nah, my brother doesn't quite have the English skill :P My English is significant better than his since I lived in Australia for a time, though he is good too. And anyway, somehow it's more awkward because he's a boy. I think I'd be slightly more comfortable with a sister, but a brother is all I got.
So you still have a job :P

Date: 2008-07-03 10:05 pm (UTC)I would die if my parents found out about my fic writing, and I don't even write porn or write that often! lol. My sister knows I write & read but she doesn't seem too bothered. Thank God.
I think more wine is probably the best idea!! :P
Also, your icon? MADE OF WIN! XD

Date: 2008-07-03 10:15 pm (UTC)Wine is always a good idea, yes. Unless I get really drunk and wake up tomorrow to find I've let them both read everything I've ever written. Then I would have to jump out the window.

Date: 2008-07-03 10:19 pm (UTC)Haha!! Yeah, maybe not such a great idea then...

Date: 2008-07-03 10:31 pm (UTC)Doesn't that violate same sort of privacy law? I really didn't get why they need to see what people watch on youtube?

Date: 2008-07-04 09:00 am (UTC)But yeah, I find it potentially so dodgy in relation to privacy, erk.

Date: 2008-07-03 11:04 pm (UTC)i'm thinking :
1. share the gen
2. share and pray he finds it too girly to read
4. wine- there are times when nothing else will make family seem at least quasi-normal. and sometimes, we just really need family to be some kind of sane.
enjoy the nice weather while it lasts and have a great weekend :o)

Date: 2008-07-04 12:46 am (UTC)Solution: get brother, brother's girlfriend and mother so drunk they don't remember asking to read your stuff - although if you could find a really terrible Sue and pass it off as your own I'd love to see the looks on their faces.

Date: 2008-07-04 04:31 am (UTC)Um, yeah. Luke's occasionally shown a bit of interest in my writings, but strangely only when I am in the process. And I won't show him unfinished stuff. He doesn't like reading anyway, though I wouldn't be too bothered about showing him something finished cos, well... there's not much bashfulness left there after ten years cohabitating.
I have class, gotta go!

Date: 2008-07-04 06:46 am (UTC)I've always wondered how that kind of stuff goes down with authors, in general. I mean, my dad has betaed the manuscripts my brothers have written. Those don't have sex in them, but I'm more than a little sure that any book I might end up writing would. In that case, my father is NOT proof-reading it.
It's bad enough he had to have sex for me to exist.

Date: 2008-07-04 04:12 pm (UTC)As far as yout temp's go, 30 might be nice, but here it's always at least 44 in the summer. Then again I do live in the middle of a desert and I need a jacket whenever it gets to like, 20... *shrug*
