*waves* I live! Sorry if I got any of you worried - bad cold did get quite bad, but I am much improved now and even back to work. Which NSB rewarded me for by cancelling my morning train. In the rain. Bite me, NSB. (Yes, I know it wasn't your fault this time. Bite me anyway.)

And how are all you smashing people?

An interesting article on the legality of fanfiction, by a copyright lawyer.

Pretty good - and looks beyond the US, too.

Cast news for CSI that could be rather omnious.

That's bound to cause some wank too.

In them other fandom news, JumpCon looks pretty dead in the water. With these news and these and these, it sure doesn't look good. Owie. Wasn't there just that FedCon disaster too?

Watch yer money, people.

Have almost finished my Adama/Roslin gift exchange fic and feeling good about it. Will be my longest A/R fic so far. Yay? I would however like a volunteer to read and tell me if the format works - no beta work or proofreading or any such required, just an honest opinion on whether the fic works as a whole.

Now to catch up on life, work and the online...

In other news:
- Belgium's PM resigns over continued division in the country.
- Italian officials found guilty over G8 protests in Genova.
- An attraction in Swedish amusement park Liseberg collapses, injuring over 20. (Among them five Norwegians.)
- Murder rate in Norway plummets.
- Norwegians should complain more, thinks researcher.

LOL there's already wank there. Including some from me. ;) I haven't been to TalkCSI today, but I was told that some Mrs. Petersens there are having a nervous breakdown and probably need some group therapy.

Arguments over GSR again or what? I didn't really read the comments.

Oh man, I have to check TalkCSI after. It always brings the... er... 'interesting' stuff.

From: [identity profile] ericasj.livejournal.com
Nah. I don't really read CSI communities. Let alone argue. I was just complaining in my own journal about how I didn't like that it seems be going to end with GSR. lol. Now that I'm almost recovered, I don't even know why I cared so much. Maybe I just got tired and irritated with all the hype on Jorja Fox's return. Blah.

Btw your layout rocks.

Yeah, or old wounds not quite healed? I've noticed that even if I am no longer in a fandom, I can still get quite caught up in how I used to feel about things at times. Hard to let go, I guess.

Aw, thanks :) It's the smashing [livejournal.com profile] skybound2 who did it all for me. I have no talents in that direction at all.

That's very possible. lol. Sometimes moving on could be a really slow process. ;)

But methinks you're so talented at some other things, like criticizing Bush. So it's kind of even, I guess.

Tell me about it, hah.

Okay, of all the compliments I've had, 'talent in critizing Bush' is a new one! But I like it. Yes, I do.

How I am? Dying. LOL. I have this nasty cold going around. Bleh.

I read that article on fanfiction. It's very interesting. I can understand the problems some people (authors, TV show creators, etc..) have with it but tbh if we writers aren't making any money from it, I don't see the problem. The way I see it, the idea that someone loves your thing enough to write fanfic about it is a huge compliment and a lot of fandoms would fall apart without fanfic and then you'd lose a lot of fans from the original medium. Or something like that. lol.

Am I the only CSI fan not bothered about him leaving?? I feel like a bad person for that. lol.

I'll volunteer. :)

I'm not particularly bothered. After the season finale and hearing the WP leaving rumors for a year, and after less JF on my screen, kind of past caring.

From: [identity profile] bex245.livejournal.com
It's not so much that I'm past caring, because I'm not even sure I cared to begin with!

Although, it is another departure in a LONG list of them. After Jorja and Gary (*sob*), it's barely the same show anymore. :(

If Marg ever leaves I will completely stop watching!!

From: [identity profile] partly-bouncy.livejournal.com
There is that. It is WP and *yawn* not a guy I find particularly attractive. And his character is not one I particularly identify with. Not invested in that to care either, burnout on departures aside.

Date: 2008-07-16 01:02 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bex245.livejournal.com
Lol, me neither. I've never been a fan of the character. Found him kinda boring, tbh.

Damn, I've given you my cold! It must have crawled across the Internets to be mean. So sorry. I know exactly how you feel.

I can understand the problems some people (authors, TV show creators, etc..) have with it but tbh if we writers aren't making any money from it, I don't see the problem

I think what the article alluded to at one point is the fear that while fanfiction doesn't make any money for the writers of it, it takes income away from the source material. I don't think that is true in most cases, but I can see where it might be a concern to the person with the copyright.

But I do think fanfic can indeed inspire greater fannish interest - which is probably why a lot of media lets it be, and in some cases even court it in a not legally binding sort of way.

I've stopped watching CSI mostly, so I'm fairly meh too.

Awesome! Preferred e-mail? I gotta tinker a bit with it still, but I'll probably send you the thing today or tomorrow. It's between 5000-6000 words and I just want to know if it makes sense. If I gotta fix it, I gotta fix it now, you know? Before I give lots of proofreading work to mah poor beta. (Deadlines, oh deadlines.)

Lol! I actually think I got it off my sister who is home from school with the same thing!!

I'm still watching, I'm just not as interested.

You're certainly not the only one. He's never been my favorite character to begin with so I don't particularly care. I did rant about how they're going to have him leave, though, because I'm not a fan of the ship. :p

And yes. I'm so ready to leave when Marg leaves. In fact, I can't wait for the day. :)

*is proud*

Erm, it feels a bit quiet wank-wise to me at the moment, but then I've been sick and distracted and been preoccupied with other stuff so possibly I've missed something.

I did see there was some kind of blow-up on the SciFi boards, but since Sci-Fi doesn't let me log in there, I don't go there often.

... Sniff.

I should not be as entertain by this (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomsecrets/178113.html?thread=68223169#t68223169) as I am.

Heard about JumpCon. If you haven't seen, this is an interesting convention discussion (http://www.journalfen.net/community/fandom_lounge/743980.html) of sorts. I've heard some of the HP issues over HP cons for years now.

Congrats on your murder rate plummeting. :)

Ah, Ataniell. Isn't she the chick with the Very Pink Journal? That, and her appearing in various Harry Potter fandom blow-ups is about all I know of her. Never interacted with her personally, so no real firm opinion on her.

Thanks for the link - I shall have a read when I'm home. Since I never get to go to cons (sigh Norway), I've always been a bit of an outsider to the phenomenon, but it is interesting.

Heh, thanks. I guess we're just not as good Vikings as we once were. Tsk on us non-murderous bastards.

Date: 2008-07-16 09:17 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] partly-bouncy.livejournal.com
Her nickname is Pink because of how her pink her journal is. I've oddly had very little contact with her. I ran afoul of her more because of wank reporting/Fan History than anything else. So my connection in there as part of everything is generally LOL because I really couldn't care less about her.

I've done only a few conventions but they can be interesting. Never seen the financial end but lots of wank possible there.

Wasn't there just that FedCon disaster too?

To be fair, the people who run FedCon Germany had pulled out of the event that was being run in the U.S. months earlier. Most of the boards I haunt call the disaster "FedCon In Name Only".

You live!

*snuggles you*

You gonna be on msn later? I still don't have to go to bed early, so I'll be about if you are. Glad you're feeling better now.

Fail, NSB. You beat even Transperth at suckiness, it seems.

Date: 2008-07-16 01:44 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Hey you!

I probably will - problem with going back to work while not 100% is that you're exhausted after and I've just crawled into bed the last two days. But I am much improved today, so I think I will be. And I gotta do some finishing stuff on my fic anyway, so you can look for me.

Provided NSB doesn't screw me over and I get home, of course.

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I will miss WP since I've often felt he was the heart of the show. It's only fair though that he has a chance to move on--he's put in enough time on the show and I don't think he owes anyone anything at this point.

I am envious about the Adama/Roslin fic. I'm working like mad on my Make Laura Happy challenge and hope to get it done before the deadline.

Date: 2008-07-16 04:53 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
I think I would have missed him had it been two seasons ago, put it that way. When I did like CSI, Grissom was one of my favourites. I've just really, really let go of that show.

And yeah, I think he's more than earned to leave if he want to - that sort of workload is a killer and it has been a long time now.

Oooh, fic! I look forward to it and send speedy vibes.

I was really worried about this one because I couldn't get a format on my idea and it really bugged me for weeks. But when it loosened, it all came like a flood so I've managed in good time. Writing can be funny like that sometimes, heh.

Interesting article on Fanfic, thanks for sharing!
I recently found an essay called "Emotional ownership and the fan fiction community", that's also an interesting read. Swedish author, but the text's in English, FYI.

On the Liseberg-accident: it creeps me out when this sort of things happens too "close to home". I've never tried the attraction, always considered it a bit lame. But, geez. I thought amusement parks in Sweden were suppoused to be safe... =/

It IS creepy when it happens so close - there were Norwegians in that accident too, so everyone here went all '... WTF'. But at least it was far less serious than it might have been, and no one died.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out :)
