That's right. Australia beat England at soccer - IN England. I was wandering down to the living room to get some cola, and dad told me that when I went back to Australia, the world would be fundementally different. I was thinking a shark had (finally) eaten John Howard, but he was refering to the fact that Australia was leading the match against England. So we watched the rest of it.
Bloody hell.
Congratulations, Soccaroos.
But where is that shark? Here, sharkey sharkey....

Of course, you realise the Poms will sulk now...
Date: 2003-02-12 06:59 pm (UTC)Should I gloat, there's the question? I mean, on the one hand, there's the fact that Australia is *not* a recognised nation in the soccer stakes. Then on the other hand, there's the fact that we beat the Poms in everything else. Then on the gripping hand, there's the fact that soccer isn't the One True Code of Football (that's AFL).
I shall have to ponder this. Extensively.

Date: 2003-02-12 07:18 pm (UTC)My mum was actually in Australia when the AFL finale was on. We watched it over dinner at a pub in Alice Springs (we were there to oogle Uluru, of course) and at one point my mum turned to me and went 'This is actually rather fun to watch.'
But the one true football it ain't. :P Not in the eyes of the world. And most importantly, not in the eyes of the Pommies, making their defeat more bitter. Hah!
And gloating more sweet. *points and laughs* To make it sweeter, the coach is Swedish.
HAH!
