Saturday: *commences*

Cam: *heads into Drammen to get some groceries*

*spots a stand with 'Is evolution based on facts?'*

Cam: WTF creationists? In Norway? *approaches carefully*

Cam: Yes! WTF creationists! In Norway!

*gets very excited*

*gets up mobile phone and takes picture*

Guy At Stand: *spots* You know, we have a brochure I can give you so you don't have to take a picture.
Cam: *accepts* Thanks. I'll send it to my brother. That's who I'm taking the picture for. He'll enjoy it.
Guy At Stand: Oh?
Cam: He's an atheist.
Guy At Stand: Oh.
Cam: So am I, in fact.
Guy At Stand: You should read it before you send it, then.
Cam: Um, yeah. Thanks.

*exchanges polite goodbyes*

*sends MMS to brother*

*gets a call two minutes later*

Cam: Hey.
Marius: WTF creationsists?
Cam: Yes! I'm in Drammen and I saw a creationist stand! I got a brochure for you.
Marius: Yes! Send it. Have you sent me Doctor Who yet?
Cam: No, sorry. Been working busy.
Marius: Then send those DVDs with the brochure.
Cam: Blah blah work blah blah life
Marius: Blah blah University blah blah life
Cam: I got the Civ IV expansion pack. Blah blah slaughter of enemies blah blah
Marius: Cool. I'm still WoW-ing. [World of Warcraft - Cam ed.] Blah blah slaughter of enemies blah blah
Cam: Right, so I'll send you a package soon.
Marius: Don't forget. Doctor Who and creationists. I'm waiting.

*hangs up*

*realises throughout entire thing have been wearing Meet the Family t-shirt*

*gets the lolz*

When I got home and read the brochure, I was sad to discover it wasn't the 'the Earth is 6000 years old !!!!!eleventy-one!' kind. Woe. They even had a special section on how they weren't trying to get ID or creationism into Norwegian schools. Probably because they'd get laughed out of the country for the mere suggestion. They did proclaim Darwin evil, though. Snort.

I want to see the hardcore lot and take lots of pictures of them and their museums. WTF creationists, dude.

But it did put me in a very bemused mood for the rest of the day.

(I note here for the record that those who choose to believe God is behind evolution and whatever else - I don't share that belief, but I can at least see where it's coming from. Harcore creationists leave me with a sort of weird fascination and much merriment because wtf, truly.)

Have to come to NYC to see that kind. They're spreading. Maybe they're evolving... Or procreating!

Thanks to Netflix, I can finally watch Dr Who in peace. Oh la, I'm so creative.

Dear oh dear. I know they have a museum in California, though. I'm dying to see it and bring back tales of it to Norway.

Huzzah :)

Heh. He seemed to take it rather well, actually. Kudos to him. I'm probably not the first Norwegian having a WTF moment at him.

BOTH:*Spot T-shirt, burst out laughing*

We never see WTF Creationists in Aberdeen either. Although we used to have extremist christians that would perform music in the shopping court and tell random teenagers wearing velvet that they would go to hell. Funnily enough after 3 months of this the police got fed up of them and stopped them doing it.

The fact that I was actually wearing that t-shirt - still am! - was like the icing on the cake. It's actually from a BBC series called "Walking with Beats" that I loved.

What a charming lot, truly.

*falls over laughing*

Genuine, authentic Norwegian creationists outside of an asylum! You should catch some and put them in a qualified zoo for breeding -- they've got to be a very rare species indeed.

*sobering up on second thought* Sweet Jebus. Is no place safe any more?

Also, I love your t-shirt.

I've never actually met a real creationist, soft or hardcore. Though some of the religious nutters with microphones that hang around Bourke Street at night might be creationists, I'm not sure...

First time I'd seen them, that's for sure. Very exciting and vaguely disturbing. But they aren't in great numbers, so it is really a curiosity here and that's about it.

:) I adore it too. Yay BBC.

Apparently, something like 5% of Australians are creationists, so you should be able to find one.

TV documentary. There is an organisation called Australian Young Earth Creationists, apparently.

The number would fit the European pattern. The US pattern is... Well, let's just say it's a lot more.
