Here's a few tasters:

Those American conservatives who, when you critisise them and show even the slightest tendency not to be a conservative, smiles smugly and goes 'so, you're a communist then?' and pretend it's a joke. Like anyone who is leftish in politics must be a communist. I always want to shut back 'so, you're a fascist then?' I mean, they're to the right, so they gotta be fascists, right?

Americans who ask me what I'm doing for Thanksgiving. Yeah, Thanksgiving stopped being a US holiday only and is now celebrated worldwide. Also, May 17th, Norway's National Day, must now be celebrated by everyone on the planet. Better start eating icecream and get those flags out, people. And do remember Anzac day, the new worldwide holiday of January.

Reviewers who leave reviews about their own stories. Dude, my reviewboard ain't your soapbox. Bitch about my story or praise it, whichever you feel like, but it's meant to be a review for *my* story, not a free commercial for yours. Okay?

Bush.

Certain Norwegian football commentators. Our team sucks. Face reality already.

Rain. We got twenty centimetres of precious snow, only to have the rain take it away a few days later. Wah.

The movie The Cat in the Hat, starring Mike Myers. Why, Odin, whyyyyy?

Plastic Christmas trees.

Certain spoilers about what I have heard has been cut from RotK.

Things that don't annoy me:

Viggo Mortensen, Bernard Hill and Andy Serkis are coming to Oslo for a RotK showing. Whee.

Fun slash orgy banners. Hey, would any of the creators mind if they went on the OFUM fanart page? I was amused and want to share. Merry and Pippin's grand epic has been tentativly named "Merry and Pippin’s Short Stories of Slash and Other Naughty Narratives" and the short story present has a completely idiotic plot about a ringwraith wrecking havoc with a love lotion turning people into orcs (hence the many woes). Also, Tyellas gets spanked, as per request.

Went to see Love Actually the other day. I rather enjoyed it. Colin Firth is delicious. As were many others. Mmm. Brits.

Chocolate. Mmmmm.

Christmas marzipan.

Plastic Christmas trees.

There's not my favorite, but I look at it this way:

Mum's allergic to pine. She wouldn't be able to put presents under the tree, and Bob most likely couldn't be arsed to do it. Nor could I. This = not good

I'm not killing a tree to garnish it, leave it there for a month as it slowly dies and then chuck it onto the curb to be mulched.

And besides, you can bent the branches to get juuust the right light in the perfect place to light up the ornaments.

Yey, all hail fjords :)

I love New Zealand but haven't been there... I really want to though. I'm trying to convince my friends to go on an LotR pilgrimage with me, to see all the places where LotR was filmed. They're not convinced, though...

Replaced it with this one, which isn't exactly a banner but is much better IMO: Slash! Now on Winamp!

You know what pissed me off the other day? I buy the new Newsweek (for the RotK cover story and Aragorn shots, you know), and I discover inside this little short article about the "anger industry". Which, it turns out, consists of liberals like Al Franken pointing out what liars, hypocrites and idiots the conservatives are.

Apparently it's all right for Rush Limbaugh to put on his hate radio show and for televangelists to rant and rave about homosexuals -- but the moment we do it back to them, they start whining. Nothing can talk quite so piously about anger and "civilized discourse" like a conservative who's gotten a taste of his own medicine.

It's exactly like the schoolyard bully who's picked the wrong target and finally gotten his nose bloodied.

Chocolate. Mmmmm.

Christmas marzipan is chocolate-covered marzipan.

In Europe, we tend to joke about the US having no liberals, so it's a bit weird seeing all the conservatives whine about all the liberals controlling everything. Um, right... I don't think Europe and the US quite have the same definition of 'liberals'.

You can use my banner if you like!

I want to see Love Actually! *sigh* There are times that no amount of begging, pleading, or wheedling will change your age ... or your lousy mother's views on what is "appropriate" for you.

As for the conservatives, I understand completely. I had the misfortune to read an essay written by the most conservative person I have ever interacted with in my life, and in said essay, he said a lot of horrible things about pacifists, including the following enlightened passage:

"There are two camps in the peace movement. There are those who truly believe that peace is the only way, and to those people I can only marvel at their naiveté. Then there are those who are little more than socialists or anarchists who couch their anti-Bush or anti-American rhetoric in slogans advocating peace."

*growls* I need to not let things like this upset me. And most of all, I need to not let his pseudologic mess me up. (Feel free to disregard the last two lines, as they are only me thinking out loud.) Why do I have to share a planet with these people?

And back to Love Actually ... was Alan Rickman good?

Have almost same problem...except it's not the fact that my father thinks it would be "inappropriate," it's...how do you convince your father to go see a film with British actors that is about love?

And yes, Mistress Cam, if you actually like my slashy banner (or even if you don't) you can use it. I mean really...what would I do with it, anyway?

Hang it on your bedroom wall?

You tell your father there's nudity - maybe that'll get him there. Or maybe not...

Don't think that would work. Just a thought.

And I COULD hang it on my bedroom wall, but truthfully if I hung anything else on my bedroom wall, the wall would probably collapse. It'd be like that Monty Pyton sketch. Just oooone more itsy bitsy little picture! Crash!

Heh. He had some good scenes, and he didn't come off all bad. But not the heartbreaker of the movie, clearly.

Okay, what is so bad about socialism? Norway's a social democracy - hell, Scandinavia as a whole is - and we're well off and fairly happy. Socialism does not equal communism.

*rolls eyes at essay writer*

Buddy, you try having two world wars on your soil and then see how much you'll like war.

As for Love Actually, Alan Rickman was good, but his character was the )potentially) cheating husband, which is hardly an endearing role. But he did well.

"Merry and Pippin’s Short Stories of Slash and Other Naughty Narratives" I, being the pervert that I am, read this as Mary Poppins' short stories of Slash and other Naught Narratives... What can I say...

Love Actually = a film worth seeing :D Loved the music, the casting, and most of the stories. I went with mum (which turned out to be a bad idea, as some of the story lines were a bit squicky for her.)

Christmas Marzipan... I bow down to the brilliant idea that is marzipan, especially covered with chocolate.

Americans who ask me what I'm doing for Thanksgiving. Yeah, Thanksgiving stopped being a US holiday only and is now celebrated worldwide. As will be the case of July 4th, next year. All part of Bush's plan for world domination. Just wait and see...

Also, May 17th, Norway's National Day, must now be celebrated by everyone on the planet. Better start eating icecream and get those flags out, people. Whyever shouldn't they... It's one of the few national holidays that doesn't feature military parades, but children parading... plus... ICECREAM... and marching bands. (I get tears in my eyes whenever I hear the national anthem being played.)

+ The joys of wearing a heavy bunad all day, so your shoulders are dead afterwards.

No need to wait and see. You can already look up the "Project for a New American Century" (PNAC) and see the neoconservatives' plans.

You can get their own take on it here, and some more objective commentary and description here.

By the way, the PNAC planned on war with Iraq before Bush's election.

Wait, you don't respond by calling them fascists? I never believed that old saying about not sinking to their level -- because although I probably shouldn't be proud to admit it, I'm better at that level than just about anybody. I prefer reasonable discussion, but there's something so satisfying about making up faults in a person and then attacking them for them, like a real life flame war.

Date: 2003-11-29 06:23 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Well, I usually go for reasonable, or I just stay out of the discussion. I save my insults for Bush.

Anyway, in Northern Norway where I was born, insulting people is a way of showing affection.

*grins* Gods I love being a Socialist...makes life bloody interesting hey!

Got called a Communist (in a snide, whiney, meant to be insulting voice) by this kid once. My age...he was cute, but not THAT cute...I politly smiled back and went.

"Yeah...I have connections too. Can I have your number?"

His friends then got all bully-like and I skiattled...what amused me later on was the fact he needed to call 6 other blokes over to help him out with one so-called 'Commie' girl (I think they thought I had a Nuc up my jacket or something...have they even figured to look in history books and find out who dropped the first one?). Made me feel like I still had the good stuff. Am a Greenie too...what is it with people and predudice? I really don't get it. Got bashed at school for being a hippy-greenie...PAH!!

Aaaanyway...this Nazgul...mmm *goes a little freakishly dreamy-eyed* you know my info, you know my crushes...and you know very well that I am now a sex-changed GUY in your fic so Nazgul crushes can evolve. Hehe...this one causing havoc?? GIMMEE!!!! *retreats into her own little nutty mind*

Whoa, hold on. You're a liberal? You communist!

{cowers} Kidding, kidding, of course. (I mean, considering that I'm pretty damn liberal myself).

I wish your National Day was celebrated by everyone on the planet. I'd take dressing in funny outfits and riding double deckers over scarfing turkey and nasty, jellied cranberry sauce any day.

Bush.

No way! Really? I never would have guessed!

Plastic Christmas trees.

Same here. Sadly, my sinuses set on fire whenever I'm around real ones.

Well, that's what it feels like at least. I miss real trees. Sigh.

Certain spoilers about what I have heard has been cut from RotK.

>__< Seriously, would it have killed P.J. to cut just a few minutes off of the Pelennor Fields to add a few scenes? I'm probably still going to love the movie, but the cuts I've read about are disappointing.

Viggo Mortensen, Bernard Hill and Andy Serkis are coming to Oslo for a RotK showing. Whee.
