When making an announcement of a friending meme, it is a good idea to:
1) Spell 'friending' correctly
2) Not friendslock the post where you have the meme
3) Fix both things when pointed out to you really fast

I say no more.

Edinburgh Zoo penguin knighted by the Norwegian royal guard. He already was a Colonel-in-Chief, as you can see. This is why I love my silly little country - we have penguins for officers. I particularly love his little armband. Sir Nils Olav, defender of Norway. Ehehehe.

The American health system: As told by people living on the moon. Speaking as a Martian myself, I have to admit the American health system still gives me the 'bwhuh?' like whoa. I really don't get why anyone would think it a good idea at all. Sure, privatization in some areas can be a good thing, but the way it works in America is... Not working, actually.

Americans claim to have found corpse of Bigfoot. Yeah, I'll believe that one when I see it displayed in a museum somewhere - no, not the creationist one.

Teachers in one part of the US state of Texas are to be allowed to carry concealed firearms when the new school term opens this month. Though the logic of this comment has me a bit 'bwhuh?': When the federal government started making schools gun-free zones, that's when all of these shootings started. I'm sorry, what?

Olympics! Norway got its first gold today - so that makes one gold, two silver and a bronze for us so far. We're not exactly a summer games country, so that's fine by me. Most importantly, that's more than Sweden.

I'm tanking my first Karazhan run today with my druid lvl 70 - she's an alt character, I usually play a hunter. I've been to Kara a gazillion times and eaten every boss there for lunch. But I've never gone in as a tank and I have feeeeeaaars. Cross your fingers for my bear.

Meanwhile, I finshed fic for [livejournal.com profile] falena84 and feel accomplished. How's your Saturday?

In other news:
Eagles from Norway released into the wild in Scotland in an attempt to reintroduce the species. (I assume they have persmission to nick these eagles from us.)
Tufte takes gold for Norway.
Chinese views on an unblocked BBC.
A woman causing debate in India over late abortions has had a still birth.

I loved the story about the penguin at Edinburgh Zoo - it made it onto the main Scottish News this week. And also, thanks for lending us the eagles - I'm pretty sure we did ask permission ;)

I'm sure you did - otherwise, you'd be Viking-invaded just about now, because as you can see with the penguin, we take our birds very seriously :)

America makes Americans go "bwhuh?" a lot too. Basically you have to understand a couple of things:

1) We're only a rich nation because we refuse to spend any money on anyone. Only commies expect their Government to provide actual services, and only commies will steal your money to provide these services. And America fights commies.

(You have no idea how I wish the above statement was a parody, but frankly, that *is* the basic mindset. Ever notice how many people run for major office - say President - on the platform that Government is Evil?)

2) If'n you take away our guns, the commies will come get us. Plus, if everyone gets to carry guns, then there will never be shootings in anger and if a nutjob shows up with a gun, they'll just get shot down before they hurt anyone.

However, everyone knows that violence really started in schools when they took prayer out and replaced it with teaching evolution.

Again, how I wish that those statements were not exactly what has been used in discussions of the subject. How hard is it to learn Norwegian, and do you have to salute the penguin if you emigrate?

Middling hard and no, since the penguin lives in Scotland. You can travel over there and do it if you really want, though.

The evil government thing I've just never understood. In Norway, government is just normal people like Ola and Kari or my mum, and the most evil thing they do is really work one less hour in summer. The government occasionally annoy me or do things I consider stupid, but I never believe it to be out of malice. Really, really don't get the evil government thing, but then, ours is smaller.

Frankly, it doesn't make sense for me either; the Government has gotten plenty of things right - highway infrastructure, rescue services (before they got gutted), public schooling... but it all boils down to a bunch of people who believe that Taxes are evil, helping other people is weakness, and a whole bunch of other "oh, just go live in the woods and leave us alone" things.

NUUUUU.... It's not commies anymore. We got rid of them. Now it's Terrorists.

No, wait... commies are terrorists. Carry on then.

I saw an editorial in the Kansas City (MO side) that said exactly that about prayer in school.

It made me sad.

I spy a familiar icon, hee!

I'm at the boy's, he managed to cure me of my thesis-induced inferiority complex, so my Saturday has improved greatly since when we talked last.

I finshed fic for [livejournal.com profile] falena84
Woot!*throws confetti your way* Thank you!

The moon parable is great. Though I'm quite afraid ther will be space wank now.

I will be crossing my fingers for your tank bear in Wow, even though I'm still not sure what that means. :P

Hehe, you do indeed. It was shiny enough that I put it to use.

Aww. Boyfriends are great for that, truly.

And your fic ended up at 4100 words. Good enough for you? :P

I shall show you when you get here - all will become (relatively) clear.

"When the federal government started making schools gun-free zones, that's when all of these shootings started. I'm sorry, what?"

Oh dear. This is another Moon thing, I'm afraid. As a life-long lunar resident, I wish I could express the same shock you do upon hearing such statements, but sadly they're a standard of the discourse here.

Your world is awfully confusing . I assume there is some sort of logic to that statement, just not one of my planet?

I laughed at your Olympic joy - but in a "us, too" kind of way! Canada has been by turns despairing and embarassed at the absence o' medals (we aren't tiny preteens, so no gymnastics; we aren't Michael Phelps, so no swimming), but today won 3. Collective national sigh of relief. Although - wrestling? ywrestling?

Well, only two years 'til Vancouver ;)

The flocked misspelled meme thing? So very, very sad.

The penguins? Completely awesome!

The moon-air discussion? Brilliant. While also sad in that it reminds me why I think that living on Mars might be a better idea...

Is it sad that I don't find the Texas thing more surprising then I do? My immediate reaction is, well, "That's Texas!" This is not a good reaction for me to have about any State in my country. *sigh*
