Weekend managed to be a pain - literally, as I'm having one of those give-me-painkillers-or-give-me-death time of months and the latter option is actually sounding more tempting. Ooooow. In addition to other stuff and getting very little sleep due to pain, I'm grumpy and feel a bit needy of reassurance I don't suck, which is just a lame place to be at. Sigh.

Any of you having a lame time I can help with? Offer still stands there and if I can cheer you up a little with giving a compliment or feedback or something small like that, do let me know. It'll probably cheer me up some too. (But wouldn't say no to some cheering up efforts. Blah life.)

Also, if you want postcards from my upcoming adventure with [livejournal.com profile] falena84 around Norway, here's the post to do it before it's too late.

Meanwhile, the Olympics are over and a certain British newspaper has celebrated Great Britain beating Australia in the gold tally with, to quote the Aussies, 'all the restraint and good taste that you'd expect'. Ahahaha. Norway ended up with three gold, beating Sweden with none. China beat the US and a good time were had by those who wonall.

Now, I've had vague introductions to how crazy American Idol fandoms can be before, but this tale of wank in Josh Groban fandom just had me stare a bit. Granted, it's not quite the MsScribe story, but oi. Whut the. Am I the only one who thinks dragging personal lives into it is crossing the line a bit? (That's why the recent 'outing' that lead to all the bruhahaha over FanHistory didn't sit right with me. Well, part of the reason.)

Cracked takes on The 5 Most Baffling Sex Scenes in the History of Fanfiction and while some of their write-up is funny, I'm pretty sure ten minutes with Google could find something more baffling than that. Anyone up for the challenge? (And I used to write a bit of Legolas and Gimli. Hah.)

I miss new Battlestar Galactica like crazy and January is too far away. Must think of something fannish to do to keep my abstinence level down. Did finish my MOL fic for Friday, not sure what to write next. Hmm. I'd have a proper rewatch, but I lent my brother some of my DVDs and he's in Holland. SciFi is withholding trailer so I can speculate over that or get icons of something in particular in it, and argh, I am not a patient person. GIMME NEW SHINY THINGS.

No new Doctor Who for a while either, and fandom seems a bit quiet, at least when it's not having the same companion discussions for the billionth time.

I don't know, anyone else feeling a bit impatient-come-bored fandom-wise?

I could always watch CSI and CSI fandom when new episodes air, I suppose. That should be... Interesting. Yes.

Let me state definitively for you: YOU DO NOT SUCK, YOU ARE NOT LAME, YOU ARE 292837423874 KINDS OF AWESOME.

Let me add more to that by saying I always look forward to seeing new fic from you cos I KNOW its gonna be well written and thought out and give me things to consider (and I haven't reviewd your last one just cos my weekend was faily too but its on my list of things to do)

I....am probably in the same emotionally lame place you are right now. With the time of the month shenanigans too. This fails greatly

I'm delurking to say that you can't be lame as you come from the same country as Andreas Thorkildsen, whose sheer gorgeousness was a highlight of the Olympics for me.

So, well done Norway.

And, yes, there is a lot of shame here in Australia over Great Britain having beaten us in the medal tally. We need the cricket now!

Ah yes, our javelin man. New Olympic record and everything. We were all very pleased - and he's a very nice, sympathetic guy, which gives it extra yay.

(And good-looking helps too!)

I heard the cricket is pushing to be included in the Olympics. Heh, good luck. Utterly bizarre sport, but it was kinda fun to watch down there in a slightly detatched fashion.

One of those times when a million little things a little wrong adds up, I think. It's just... Blah. Gotta hate those lame periods, because it feels a bit wrong to be all emo about it because it's not a huge crisis or anything.

Time of the month is generally fail.

*squishes you back*

(And thanks :D)

Oh I know those, I'm like on a first name basis with those times when all the little stuff adds up into big nonsense. And you can be as emo about your periods as you like, they frakking fail. If I could go back to the beautiful year when they stopped showing up I'd be all about building my time machine.

A year without them seems like bliss. I've never had that since they started, and they're always kind of bad. Mum has the same, so thanks genes. Grmpf.

At least one big crisis you know what to fix. Million little things, where do you even start? Meh. I hate emo. I shall allow myself to feel miserable today and spoil myself with chocolate and stuff tomorrow to chase it all away. (Someone post awesome porn tomorrow..) There's a plan.

Oh it was glorious. The only time in my life its been that way. I'm one of those unfortunate feckers that get its every 3 weeks for a week. so good times!

Exactly. Absolutely spoil yourself with chocolate and nice things. Frak it.

I'm writing semi-pornish stuff in my head right now...don't think it'll be ready for tomorrow though. booo.

Erk. That does sound like a whole lot of fun, yes. I only have two days it's really painful, but those can be really, really bad. Life has its way of making us all suffer, huh? If it's not one thing, it's the other.

Every now and then, I find the best way to combat feeling blue is to allow yourself to properly feel it for a bit and spoil yourself. The key is just to know when to stop.

Hee. well, it was more a suggestion to the universe than to you specifically. I'm not THAT demanding. But I'm sure many, many people would appreciate semi-porn from you whenever it comes ;)

I would gladly trade for your two days of pain!!!

Well in that case I may just grab myself a nice square of chocolate on the way home and then pj the rest of the evening away. Don't worry, if you get supercrazyemo we'll tell you lol

heee, oh I know ya weren't! just thought I'd put the possibility of semi-porn this week out there.

Are we not in fact the same person? That's been my weekend. Last night especially - thought I'd committed some massive sin and had been sent to hell. I feel better today though, thank God, although I still can't get access to the really strong and fast working pain killers I like because it's a Bank Holiday Monday here and going out's a bit pointless.

"fandom seems a bit quiet"

It is very quiet, although a post I made on [livejournal.com profile] doctorwho where I vented about the evils of Voyage Of The Damned got a good responce. But I've noticed there is a real lack of activity in general, and that a lot of people seemed to have disappeared for a bit. Torchwood fandom is going through the same thing and has been since late July. It's just the really awful summer lull that happens every year, although it seems worse to me this year now I'm actually active in fandom. It's frustrating because if you want to post fic this time of year you get far less reviews than you might otherwise, and there's not a whole lot of stuff being put out there for me to read either. It happens all over again at Christmas too.

Ouch :( I know how you feel - I actually woke up several times during the night and realised it was because I was actually in pain. I got painkillers, but they're just fading it a bit and blaaaah :(

In Norway, things start up again in August, so I guess I expected some of the lull to pass already. Then again, breaks from fandom can be nice now and then, so maybe people are enjoying that and no rush to go back since no new material for a while.

Noticed the review thing - though I always wonder if my fic just wasn't that great or people just didn't read when it happens.

I think fandom will be quiet next year too. I really don't think the Specials will be enough to keep the fan energy and excitement flowing (especially since it looks like they won't be very evenly spread out throughout the year, which has annoyed me a lot).

Torchwood might be okay. I think one way or another series three will give fandom a lot to talk about. I await the wank explosion with that one...I think it might really divide people a lot.

The review thing is depressing. I'm a vain little peacock and it's putting me off posting fic. I like encouragement, which comes in the form of comments positive or negative but when you post a fic and there's just silence, it doesn't make me want to rush to post again you know?

1. It feels very weird that my country is having a fit of misery over getting 'only' 14 gold medals sometimes (on the one hand, I understand it hurts that we didn't do as well as we liked. And got beaten by the British ;)) but hey, it's fourteen more than a lot of people got *grins*

And I'm actually really enjoying Doctor Who not having looked at the fandom due to spoiler stuff (Just watched Silence In The Library and oh god, never studying in my uni library late at night again *grins*). It's sort of sad in terms of fandom invovlement but then, not. But yes, I agree about being impatient for shiny things already (just different fandoms).

(I'm just currently wanting to kill things because apparently, as a bisexual virgin, I don't actually exist. Also the thing about how gay adoption is the most evil thing ever. Which is why shiny distractions are nice). But I wanted to say that you are awesome in an unprecedented way. Your ability to make sense/amusement out of batshit insanity/wank is just all kinds of amazing *nods firmly*

14 more than Sweden ;) But yeah, I think it's the first time since 1988 the Poms beat you. Gotta sting - Oz didn't do bad as such, just not as good as hoped, I think. Whereas team GB did suprisingly well.

For someone non-existant, you seem pretty here :p Bah at the adoption thing - it's legal here now, and I fail to see the inherent eeeeeeeeeeeeeeevil in two people who love each other want to raise a kid together. But that's just socialist me, I guess.

Thanks :D

You are ten billion kinds of awesome and your lj is a bastion of sanity and goodfic.

We all have those weeks (such as moi, who's having one right now) and the good thing is they end at some point. In the meantime, have a video with kitties: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHXBL6bzAR4

I agree with you on the fanfiction article - they didn't even mention the infamous Treebeard/Legolas fanfic, or the Lurtz/Ugluk slash I once found, or the Snape/Hermione one where ghosts attack Hogwarts to kill all 'innocents' (read: virgins) and they get trapped inside and... yeah. They really haven't looked very hard at all.

Is it a universal week of gloom or something? Half the people I talk to seem to have it.

Kittens!

Now, the two first I remember, but the Snape/Hermione one where ghosts attack Hogwarts to kill all 'innocents' (read: virgins) and they get trapped inside sounds quite something. Got a link? ;)

I think the article was specifically improbable crossover sex though, even if they didn't say so. But I am still sure there is worse to be found.

You and I are clearly on the same wavelength; I too am having painful unhappy times, and am somewhat blah about the lack of new shiny things in both the BSG and DW fandoms. The only upside is that I tend to become a prolific writer when I am having the hormonal angst.

Perhaps we should do a make each other happy exchange of some sort? *g*

I have heard many, many stories about the level of wank in Grobanite-land. By all accounts it sounds like a scary, scary place.

Quite a few seems to be in that place. :( Angst can indeed fuel a lot of writing, but I tend to go kill monsters in WoW instead of writing when I'm a bit down. To each their own...

Heh, might be an idea. 'Please a fellow fan'? There was the Secret Santa thing a while back, I remember.

Yes, I've had some peeks into Taylor Hicks fandom (another Idol) and yeah. Sure seems a lot goes on.

The words [livejournal.com profile] misscam and lame cannot be in the same sentence. THEY DO NOT MAKE SENSE TOGETHER.

Is there anything I can do to make today less sucky?

I could bring up the BSG DVDs you're missing, if you want to have a bit of a rewatch together.

Nah, we'll have plenty of other things to do and not that much DVD-watching time to spend. I'm going to head over to Amsterdam a week in September and get them back anyway.

Dunno if there is anything to do, really. Nice remarks here have been good to read, but I think everything will be a lot better once the pain goes away and if I go to bed early today. Lack of sleeping is making my head ache something fierce now :( Maybe I'll wake up to something nice in the morning.

(Matching icons, heh.)

I don't know, anyone else feeling a bit impatient-come-bored fandom-wise?
Yes. And it has resulted in my leaving my comfort zones and diving into new territory. I never thought I'd see the day I'd be reading HP fiction. But, here it is. I've got a crap load of fandoms besides, but I want new episodes more then I want fic or meta or anything else for them right now damn it! Hence the HP. Closed canon is good for some things I guess.

Here, have a Doctor AND a Kitteh.

I don't remember where I found it or anything... but the Legolas/Treebeard will always stick with me.

Also the Snape/Sorting Hat Henti. There were tentacles.

Fandom is weird.

As an American, I don't think I'm allowed to complain about the amount of golds we won. Personally, I'm starting to think that maybe would should be disqualified from events that we tend to dominate to give other people a glimmer of hope for the medals.

Hope that Time of the Month has gone away now and you've been feeling better this week.

And, no, you don't suck. At all. For you are Norwegian and funny and friendly (in a typically understated fashion, of course) and generally smashing!

I feel a little pathetic to be begging for a compliment, but if you can honestly think of something nice to say about me, then please say it. My job is currently frustrating the hell out of me.

Or just send the new BSG trailer my way as soon as there is one. :)

You're smart. In this day and age, acting as if you don't have a brain is held as some sort of good and then we really need people like you. I love your unashamed love of books. You're a good thing about Germany, and when I say I think of Germans as a cousin people, you and a few other Germans are the reason I do so. When you care about something, I really do believe you care and don't put on a show. I think you're much stronger for owning up to your problems and I admire you for that.

So yes, I do like you a lot, and in typic NOrwegian understated fashion, I probably don't say it enough.
