Say what ten thousand?
Sep. 17th, 2008 12:19 pmFan gives another BNF fan 10,000 dollars for bus campaign to save show (Moonlight). Wank happens when money vanishes. Valiant Defender of BNF claims it's not that much money, really.
....
10,000 dollars?! Even in Norway, that would be a fair amount. Good grief. I mean, I love my BSG, but I wouldn't part with ten grand for it unless it was something really special (getting an episode I'd written acted or some such) and also I had won the lottory beforehand. Ten grand, holy shit! I could go to the UK and steal a Dalek for that.
So, a meme: If you had ten grand and had to spend it on some fandom or another (assume you've won the lottory and already contributed to charity, family and yourself), which would it be and what would you do?
In other news, Wrath of the Lich King will be out November 13th. Come to mama, baby!

Date: 2008-09-17 11:24 am (UTC)I'd spent $10,000 on a Tardis- and have David Tennant jump out of it in his underwear at my birthday party. Like a girl coming out of a cake, only better.
I'm also sleep deprived and not thinking straight. In reality I'd probably blow it on having Ngila Dickinson design me a LOTR inspired wedding dress or something.

Date: 2008-09-17 11:47 am (UTC)But I would totally spend it on reams and reams of the cosplay outfits I've always wanted but never been able to afford. :D (Seriously, I just love dressing up. A hell of a lot of the money would go on getting me to cons to wear them at, and on buying overpriced yet awesome stuff once there.) And the most awesome trench coat I could find, because that totally counts as fandom when my favourite characters wear real-people clothes. :D

Date: 2008-09-17 12:41 pm (UTC)I'd probably go and grab myself some LOTR costumes (probably Eowyns' dresses and pretty jewellery. And weapons) and prop souvenirs, like the representation of Bilbo's book (oh so very pretty).
Or I'd spend it on getting all my close fandom friends together for cake and booze.

Date: 2008-09-17 04:12 pm (UTC)Meme: Fandom - DW or BSG, because most of my f'list is into that.
I'd use that money to fly myself and my i-friends places so that we could do fannish meet-ups and marathon our favourite tv shows together. (Depending on how much it costs, I'd pay for a write/producer/cast member to show up as well.)
I'm not a convention kind of person, but if I could organise something small-scale and more cozy with my friends, that would be great. Sadly, fandom is not something I get to experience much in RL.

Date: 2008-09-17 04:35 pm (UTC)1) Buy every last piece of related material I was interested in, going back 25 years, twice over (or once over, plus that huge statue that one guy made)
2) Fly myself and a friend to the next fan convention, with nice hotel rooms and top-level convention passes;
3) Send just myself to about three months' worth of conventions;
4) Tosss it at one of the many fan sites which are well-known but by and large tend to have bandwidth cost problems;
5) Get a particular fan-toy design of mine realised in plastic and a couple of dozen examples run off and painted for friends and the fandom in general;
6) Put a down-payment on the Most Awesome Cosplay Idea Ever (estimated cost: about $20-25K in materials and probably the same again in labor)
7) Cover about 75-80% of the cost of flying the (very small) local fan club to the next major fan convention. They'd be on their own for hotel costs, though.
8) Blow it on fandom-related art commissions. Because some of the fan artists are freakin' amazing.
9) Give it to the guy who occasionally tries to hold local mini-conventions. Ten K should just about cover hall hire, booths, advertising, and basic events/panels.
10) Open the floor to the relevant fandom and ask what they'd do :)

Date: 2008-09-17 05:40 pm (UTC)If I had it? I'd buy off the execs at HBO to put Carnivale back on the air, either with them, or Skiffy (who actually LIKE brilliant arc-heavy shows with crazy mythos). Then we would get seasons 3, 4, 5, and 6, and find out what the hell is going on.

Date: 2008-09-17 11:10 pm (UTC)THEN, I WOULD TELL HIM THAT THE ONLY WAY HE'S GETTING OUT OF HERE ALIVE IS BY WRITING A SERENITY SEQUEL IN WHICH WASH IS NOT DEAD.
And then, obviously, I would fund it. It would be amazing.

Totally irrelevent and off-topic, but:

Date: 2008-09-23 03:53 am (UTC)YES, THAT WOULD BE ME XD.
Fanwank makes me lol -- and fuck, I'd *kill* for $10K. And then I'd get the gnarliest piercings/tattoos *ever*, and buy myself an Alienware laptop, and...do idk what with the rest.
Unfortunately, only one of my fandoms, Bones, is still in a state of activity where my $10K would make a difference, but if I could pick any fandom...anywhere, anytime...I would probably pick BSG. I would go back in time and give my $10K to whoever in return for a guest spot on the show and a chance to meet and work with the cast (or at least, my choice in single cast member).
...Or else I would go waaaay back in time and donate it to the Buffy show in return for featuring a plot concept of mine :P.
...Or possibly pay for a meet 'n' greet 'n' dinner with Nick Lea and Gillian Anderson? 8D At the same time. Fo sho. That would be a total sexy explosion.
'Cause I don't think $10K would recast David Duchovny XDDD.
Not that $10K would buy any of those things, but yanno, in the interest of idle speculation :P.
