Doctor Who news from David Tennant.

Does it count as spoilers if it's announced on the BBC? Reactions? Wank? Tennant-lovers and -haters clashing? Popcorn or chips? DISCUSS. Already seen one entry that made me roll my eyes mightily and the night is still young.

Personally, I feel strangely mellow about it, which might be because I just had too much wine and lamb and it's snowing outside. Preeeetty. Until I have to get up and shovel it, anyway.

I have to say I sort of expected it. What with the break and him moving on to do other things. It makes me a little sad, but the Doctor is always changing, so you can't expect one to stick around forever.

Who are you betting on for Eleven?

Yeah, me too. And it is the format of the show, and the change does tend to work even as it is a little heartbreaking sometimes.

I don't know British actors and telly and such well enough to say, really. But I'd like John Hannah personally.

Seconding John Hannah as Eleven. If we can't have Helen Mirren, he'll do just fine. ;)

I don't know them that well either, but if it was John Hannah, no complaints here!

I was hoping he would do one more season, but I don't blame him for quitting after the specials. And hey, at least those of us who liked him have those specials left to watch? I admit I'll miss him. He bumped five as my second favorite Doctor.

I can understand that he goes, and I'm fine with that - actually most journals I read iterate that sentiment - but the last special will be hard. Very hard to not cry.

I'll miss him. Horribly. But I think the show needs a change, and if we have a new (and hopefulyl better) show runner for S5, it makes sense to have a new Doctor as well.

Now I am going to die of curiosity...who will be Eleven?

Well, well, well. I expected it, and yet I still feel bereft.

And now I have to figure out how to turn a sentence into 150 words for Firefox News.

I sort of expected it to happen so I don't understand how people can be especially shocked or wanky about it. Plus it was pretty clear the celebrity attached to it was starting to become too much for him. Poor guy.

BBC announcement = no longer spoiler as far as I'm concerned.

Can't say I'm at all surprised by this though it would've been nice if we'd had a full season before he left.

I predict much hate in fandom for whoever gets stuck being Eleven.

There's always much hate in fandom for the new Doctor, going back at least to the Third-Fourth change. It's as predictable as the sunrise.

I can't say I'm surprised, either. I think, ultimately, it's the man's prerogative to quit when he wants, just like it was Eccleston's.

As for Eleven? [livejournal.com profile] carla_scribbles and I have been kicking around names - mainly James Nesbitt - but ultimately, have decided we'd love a girl!Eleven. Emma Thompson or Gina Bellman are my ultimate casting choices.

Well... yeah. It was going to happen sooner or later - I just hope he goes out with an awesome finale.

A little mellow about the whole thing myself. I don't like to see characters I have become attached to leave a series, but I am happy to see David Tennant have a greater proifile as an actor because of what the series has done for him.

Eleven? John Hannah is more than fine by me. If we are talking money is no object, bring on Helen Mirren or Alan Rickman. From the WTF files, perhaps Lalla Ward or Catherine Tate?

Ooh, that's makes me so sad.
I do get it, he's been The Doctor for years and it's time to move on. I mean how are you going to top how awesome Ten was with Donna? You're not, so you might as well start from scratch, but still. Nine was the first Doctor I ever saw, but Ten was My Doctor and I'll miss him.

Well, I have to say that I'm kinda glad he is choosing now to bow out. Not because I don't like him as Doctor, but because he has been RTD's Doctor. It would mess with my head too much to see the changes wrought in the character by Moffat (and there would be some, and most of them wouldn't make sense). This way Moffat has a completely clean slate upon which to build his own Doctor, and this way... maybe, just maybe... I won't hate everything he makes the Doctor do.

I think career-wise this is the best move DT could make. I wish him well for his future acting career. Hopefully, he'll do more critically acclaimed stageplays as soon as I've got the time and money for another holiday in the UK. :)

I like your Jonh Hannah idea! Here are mine.

Strangely enough I'm not to bothered about the change too, but I'm ravenous and got rained on for the past 3 days...No idea where this zen state comes from. :P

*sadface* I would've liked to see him as not written by R.T.D., but… not to be. Ah, well.

I do wonder what'll happen when they run through the regulation number of regenerations, though.

T'wasn't surprising news but fandom will go boomy-boom now - AGAIN.

As for Eleven - I have no ideas but I really hope Rusty doesn't have a hand in casting...
