BSG trailer, Christmas, seriously unfunny bullshit

Probably no surprise I've used the week and a half to play World of Warcraft and have much fun doing it. I've hit 80 and some, flown dragons, ridden giants, been incognito with Tirion Fordring, doublecrossed a troll that doublecrossed me, sided with murlocs and severely pissed off the Lich King more than once. In short, had a blast. So far it's been an awesome expansion. Now Naxxramas awaits.

Meanwhile, the BSG trailer has surfaced. Yes, that one. Man, I want January already. And icon shinies from it. Waiting is evil. Grrr. Bill and Laura kissing! Which didn't strike me as aggressive, just assertive. And much scary signs humans do stupid shit again and possibly Cylons do too. Ooops. Then again, isn't that BSG's other summary? "Humans and Cylons do stupid shit, occasionally learning from it and finding grace"? Okay, the last one I'm just hoping for. And more kissing.

In Christmas stuff, postcards are away to all who wanted, gifts will be going out this week. Give me a buzz that you got yours when you do, please. I like to know the mail didn't eat any.

Pleasantry aside, over to some really, really RAGE shite.

The whole article is depressing reading, though it does talk about progress made concerning rape and reporting of it. But what it makes painfully clear is that understanding about rape has a long way to go, and in women too. Yes, very much in women. And as long as rape trails actually put the victims up to be judged and tried, it's a double injustice.

(While on the topic, this secret posted recently to who_secrets I kind of agree with. Several stories I've come across have disturbed me a bit, though I have to admit one author in particular made me wonder if she just wasn't seeing what she was really writing. And recently a straightout rape fic with Ten and Rose ended up in the moderation queue to T&C as the poster was new member and reading that was not the best minutes of that week. We all have our kinks yeah, but knowing people get off on a fantasized version of what was the worst experience of your life? Not exactly the easiest to reconcile with.)

Also in asshole news, Mike Huckabee - he of 'trying to be Republican Presidential Candidate with Chuck Norris' fame - apparently thinks gays don't have the right to get married because enough violence haven't been committed against them. Newsflash, Mikey - you don't have to have suffered death, violence and degradation to 'deserve' what others get simply by being born. Second newsflash - homosexuals have gotten all those. I guess history wasn't your brightest subject since you're unaware one of the specific targets of the Nazi regime (in addition to Jews, gypsies, communists, Jehovah's Witnesses and others) were homosexual men, who died just as surely in their camps as millions others did. But surely you should be aware of the people dying in your very own country - of Matthew Shepard, you fuckig asshole - of the bile the likes of Fred Phels spread, of the stupidity of being told by a former governor you can't marry the one you love because you haven't had enough non-straight people die to make it worthwhile yet?

That secret? Oh, yeah. Mind you, I was sick of it from the first one I read. What saddens me most, though, is that some of the Nine-rapes-Roes or Nine-has-violent-sex-with-Rose-that-leaves-her-injured fic is very, very popular. Of course it's not for me to criticise other people's reading habits, but do they really not see what's on their screens? This is the Doctor who's so traumatised after the Time War that it takes a huge amount of provocation to make him hurt even those whom he can't stop any other way - and even then he still couldn't wipe out the Daleks a second time.

Some like it because it's a kink of theirs, I'm guessing. People have their different pleasures and society is still so very much pushing women as passive with sex that it sticks, consciously or otherwise. I can see where it comes from a bit - but it can still wig me out when it takes certain forms in fic. Especially when the sex hurts the woman (not talking minor accidental bruises or falling off the bed, that's another thing or BDSM, which requires a lot of consent) and that's meant to be hot because it shows how much he loves her he can't help himself? Um. no. That's scarily close to justification of abuse. When the author doesn't acknowledge or seem aware he/she is writing noncon that tend to wig me out as well - it just reminds me how bullshit attitudes about rape and how so many thing it's not rape unless it's a stranger and has violence.

The aggressive!Nine feels to me quite fanon - he's got darkness in him, manipulates and seems a posterboy of post traumatic stress disorder to me, but where Alpha!Male Nine is beginning to feel a bit of a caricature.

Go Howling Fjord as starting area. Some find it scattered and confusing, but Borean Tundra is dull and flat compared to awesome fjords and epic scenery.

Yes, the rape case is the sort of thing I want to slam in the face of anyone who questions why rape victims don't report it. Gee, it's a mystery why they'd miss the pleasure of that sort of thing, innit?

ETA: Mike Huckabee - Needs to get hit in the nads. Or at least beat with a copy of the Declaration of Independence. You know, that lovely document that states that ALL MEN WERE CREATED EQUAL. You've definitely got me beat. *laugh* I'm about 75% into level 71. I'm rather in awe of the people that can level so fast. Although most of the main group in my guild is currently 71-73. I think we have about three at 75-76.

Finished the D.E.H.T.A. quests on Saturday - omg, I loved those (I've hated Nesingwary since STV).

There are several worrying shots within the promo. The last airlock one is just one of them. There's also the whole Adama double-fisting the guns, Adama evidently crawling through very tight quarters in just his tanks (or so I gathered from the quick flash), Roslin facing outward as a Raptor door shuts her in (which I'm conjecturing happens right after the kiss), and OH YEAH, Roslin saying "I AM COMING FOR YOU." Because that's not worrying. Not at all. And there were others I didn't quite pick up on.

LSKJDF:SLKDJG I JUST WANT THE WAIT TO BE OVER ALREADY T_____T. It's sweet, sweet torture, wanting so badly for the series to begin again, but knowing that this is our last helliatus ever and after March there will be no new BSG episodes ever ;_;.
