misscam: (Same thing we do every night Pinky)

Another awesome birthday present I got - [livejournal.com profile] lily_winterwood composed me music. Wow. Really, thank you to all my friends for birthday wishes and stuff, you are truly awesome and make my life better.

Norway's national Eurosong finale was last night, and I give you Norway's violin-playing cute boy entry for this year's international Eurovision Song Contest:

I wish his voice was a little stronger, but his violin is funky, he's got a dance group and is cute. We might do well. The other finalists were certainly nothing special at all. So Europe, we're ready to bring it on.

And while we all wait, we can Cornify the web. That's scary, yo.

This story made me rather think of Laura Roslin's situation - terminally ill TV star to marries her boyfriend, bald from chemotherapy and all. Love in the face of death really is both so damn sweet and heartbreaking. Part of the reason Adama/Roslin hits me right in the heart. (Part of, mind you. I'm half tempted to make some big post on why I like them so, but I fear that would just be silly.)

Fanfic award wank - not in Doctor Who fandom! I guess DW vents off about award stuff on the anon meme, but I am surprised there hasn't been some big boom yet. Maybe tomorrow. There's always a boom tomorrow, as Ivanova would say.

(I'm also half pondering if that anon meme causes more wank or the opposite - it is a venting place where some might get frustrations off their chest instead of taking it elsewhere where it might cause shit, but people also clearly use it for drawing attention to stuff that might otherwise get ignored and there can be a lot of stupidity on the meme itself. But a lot seem to have fun there too. Hum. Anon memes, I am never quite sure how I feel about them.)

Might have spare time from work next week. Fingers crossed for time to write.

In other news:

- Australia mourns bushfire victims. (Poor Oz.)
- EU leader sagree on more regulation of financial markets, including hedge funds. (About time.)
- The Razzies have been awarded. (I rather agree with those choices. Ow, bad movies.)
- US actors' union rejects studios' offer. (Uh-oh.)
- Facebook signs up to OpenID. (Hmmm.)
- Bush declines hardware store, but pays jokey visit. (Still with a sense of humour, I see. Still doesn't help my dislike of the man.)

Oh, nice song, sounds a bit russian, might do fine.

We won't know what we'll be sending until sometime in March.

Guy is half-Russian, so you're onto something there ;)

Good luck, try to send something that doesn't scar us all.

Happy birthday!

He's a cutie. More projection from him would have been nice, but the entry as a whole is pretty nifty. :)
Hurrah, Norway!

He might work on it before the international finale.

But at least our entry isn't outright horrid, as some years. Ugh.

More than likely, he will. He probably knows that it's a bit weak, so he really doesn't have a choice but to work on it.

I can only imagine.

Mmm. He was actually in our version of Idol, apparently. So I'm sure he's gotten similar feedback before. Of course, Norway's media is all over him and how he can be an international star already. we're so easily excited it's almost sad.

You don't have to imagine, here's a medley of all Norway's Eurosong entries: part one and part two.

Enjoy! We have a disturbing tendency to be last, yes.

Aww man, don't compare Jade to Laura as Jade is a homophobic prejudiced racist.

It was just the situation that had similiarities - dying from cancer and having done chemo with hair loss. I don't know who the chick is - never watched the UK version of that show. Not a great reality show fan in general, me.

Date: 2009-02-22 05:45 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] babylon-whore.livejournal.com
Oh no, for sure the similarities in situation are there...just the people involved are polar opposites. Not a big reality show fan either but when the shit was happening it was all over the news.

I can imagine. I see the guy she married is serving time as well, which no doubt got some attention too. (And he certainly doesn't sound like he's got too much in common with Bill Adama.)

Reality shows are impossible to properly escape, even when you don't watch them. Too much media attention. Groan.

I was literally just about to comment this!! LOL! Jade and Roslin could not be more different on a scale of "being a good person" LMFAO. :P

I dropped in to wish you a belated happy birthday - which I do - but ow! My eyes! You've changed your layout, and it's fine grey on black! Pretty header, but the text is incredibly difficult to see and hurts my eyes :( Even clear white on black would be better, though black as a background is generally not advisable, especially for anyone with vision problems or dyslexia.

Personally, I have more trouble with plain white on black -- any high contrast in colors gives me eyestrain. I like the gray.

DO IT. DO A BIG FAT META POST ON WHY YOU LOOOOOVE ADAMA AND ROSLIN. I WILL READ IT.

I like Norway's song, but it does seem rather Russian for a non-Russian country XD.

I'm bummed about the US actors thing, but since I'm not really actively involved in any TV that's currently filming, I don't mind that much :P. Plus none of my acting friends are in the union, though I think I knew someone who was coming up for eligibility. Oh well.

Even if I go on forever, quote books and start rambling about the meaning of love and What My Parents Taught me? Because I will, you know.

Guy is part-Russian. But it is actually quite Norwegian folk-y, all in all. We just have some similarites with Russia, I guess.

From: [identity profile] miri-d.livejournal.com
YES YES YES :D. Especially if you make it sound smart (without making it inaccessible).

Ah. I guess it was the dancers that kind of threw me. I saw them and was like "...Russian dancing? O_o;"

From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
I am considering claiming them for [livejournal.com profile] ship_manifesto, and thus having to write about why I like them. We shall see. Maybe I'll just do a post in an attempt to lure more people in.

But first I must finish this fic.

Mmm, some of it does look a bit Russian, but well... This commercial for chocolate shows you a bit of what our folk dance looks like. (He's meant to kick the hat off the stick, of course.)

This enabler encourages you to do it :D.

Oh, fic! This enabler encourages you to finish! :D

Ah, I consider myself enlightened. Though wtf does that commercial have to do with chocolate? XD

Date: 2009-02-24 02:03 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Yes, but someone wisely suggested maybe I should wait until after the finale to see how it ends. It's so close now, so might be wise.

Working on it, working on it :P

"Laura," he says, lifting his hands to her hips as she sits down on his lap and he is kissing her almost desperately. He should brush his teeth – he tries to always, to keep the taste of alcohol from bothering her – but she doesn't pull away or make any sign of being uncomfortable. Rather, she places a hand on his shoulder, tracing his lines. She even hums a little at the back of her throat, a 'mmm' sound he knows as hers so well.

He closes his eyes to it, only opening them again when she stands up. Her face is half in shadow, but he can still see the light in her eyes as she holds out a hand.

"Come," she says softly as he takes it, and he thinks of rest there never seems enough of.

See? :P

The commercial is for chocolate so soft it melts on your tongue, see, so you don't have to chew it. And it's implied the guy knocks out her teeth, so it's a sort of 'well, at least you can still enjoy chocolate' thing.

I just realized I called myself "this enabler" two times in a row. *facepalm*

It's so depressing that waiting until the finale is actually feasible! T___T WHAT WILL I DO WITHOUT BSG?!

Fiiiic 8D. *drool*

Oh, haha. I get it. That really sucks for her! D:

You're so enabling it bears repeating?

Mourn and wail a lot? That's what I will be doing. WAH MY BSG. DON'T LEAVE ME.

;)

What can I say, Norwegians can have a mean sense of humour.

Damn straight! If there's ever a crack!fic idea you randomly think up, don't tell it to me, because I'll pressure you to write it until you give in XD.

OMG YES. Seriously, BSG is the only way I'm able to get through the week. It's going to suck when I have to start defaulting onto old episodes of The X-Files, or start watching The L Word/Buffy again, just to keep myself from curling into a ball in the middle of the foor floor, even.

I'm sure it comes from bar fights being constantly drunk having permanent frostbite some totally justifiable and reasonable cause.

Date: 2009-02-24 03:02 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Hah. I am a hard nut to pressure. You have no idea how many fic ideas I have and just never get around to, no matter how much nagging there is. I am stubborn.

There must be BSG watchathon after it's all over. And support groups. It'll be like a relationship breakup, sniff. You might find someone new, but it's neverthe same.

HEY. We do not get constantly drunk. Who told you that? It was some Swede, wasn't it? It's all lies! Lies, I say!

Happy Birthday Cam! I'm sorry I'm late, but the sentiment is sincere!

Cornify--basically, that's Internet tagging, eh? Looks like Graffitti to me, and I know I'd be pissed if it got done to any site that *I* like.

Yeah, but you can only do it yourself to pages you are viewing. So... Volunteery Internet tagging.

Fun song. :)

A girl I graduated from college with married her fiance though he had been diagnosed with terminal cancer a few months previously. He passed away about a month ago at the age of 25. Life really isn't fair sometimes, but they had something really special while it lasted.

Date: 2009-02-24 01:26 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
That's sad :( It's always sad when people die of dancer, but especially when it's younger ones. Hardly lived at all. But that it was good while it lasted is nice, of course.

I'm also half pondering if that anon meme causes more wank or the opposite

I figure it thus: Fandom Wank thinks anon commenting brings on too much wank. So if something is too wanky for *FW*...

Date: 2009-02-24 01:29 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
FW can be wanky even with non-anons, though. I think it depends a bit what sort of mice come and why they're being anon. If you're doing it to get away with spreading shit you wouldn't say under your name, then yes, there will be wank. If it's more because it's nice to offer opinions without having them prejudged because of your username, then maybe not.

Date: 2009-02-24 11:32 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] neadods.livejournal.com
FW can be wanky because it's in the name!

Is there really that much prejudging, though? Because in my experience it comes mostly from the same people who fan the wank, so you still end up in the same place. The only anon meme I know of in all of my fannish experience that didn't devolve was the kinkmeme, and that's one of the few I'll cut slack for being anon because what other fans think of you is one thing - what employers think of your off hours amusement is quite another.
