misscam: (Reading is the language of our love)
[personal profile] misscam
First weekend of no more new BSG. WAH.

But I am coping by writing fic.

[livejournal.com profile] falena84 talked me into writing a crime fic for BSG in honour of Norway 'crime time' Easter tradition. (Weirdly as it sounds, Easter is high time in Norway for reading crime books, watching crime mini-series on television and things like that. We call it 'Easter crime', and it's tradition and no one knows why.) So now I'm writing a fic where a murder victim looks to have meant to be Laura Roslin, Saul Tigh and Lee Adama are sort of being Sherlock and Watson, Bill and Laura are frakking lots and reading murder mysteries in bed really bad at staying out of the investigation and Kara is threatening a lot of violence. And possibly doing Lee, if [livejournal.com profile] lotus79 has her way with me. Set post-Blood on the Scales.

Some snippets (the 'Love and Bullets' references intentional):

It started like it always did. With a body.

This one was on Galactica, and it was hard to tell she had once been beautiful. What she had, the bullet had fast taken away from her, her life and the colour in her skin. All that we are, or that we think we are, all that we are certain about, is taken away from us.

When you see the end of the world, you become more convinced of it every day.

William Adama is, standing over a woman's body in the President's temporary quarters and trying not to think at all.

It isn't Laura Roslin. But it clearly was intended to be, and his heart by association.

It started like it always did, with a body. It would end as if often does too.

With another.

(...)

"We'll have to look at motive," she says, keeping her voice even.

"Perhaps it's someone with displeased with what we found on Earth," Tigh suggests.

"That would only narrow it down to 40,000," she quips, and both men give her a look. Tigh's is for a moment amused, Bill's is just stern.

"I don't think Galactica's brig could hold them all," Tigh says dryly. "I will narrow it further, Madam President."

"You?" Bill asks before Laura can say anything, and his tone makes her fingers curl a little.

"Me," Saul Tigh simply says, and meets Laura's gaze briefly. "You're too close, Bill."

(...)

"Discussing who would want to kill you is not much of a turn-on, Laura," he says, but he still lifts her knee to kiss it. She slides it across his side, coming to rest against his hip as he leans over her.

"You're managing," she simply observes, but the look he gives her is a little hurt. "Sorry. I guess I've read too many murder mysteries to resist one in front of me."

"Why do you love mystery novels?" he murmurs, and it's hard to formulate an answer in her head when his fingers is making her buck slightly, even as they're careful in their strokes.

"Figuring it out," she finally replies, kissing him a little sloppily as he chuckles, the sound reveberating against her tongue. "Why do you?"

"Because they can be figured out," he says, and she thinks of all the things that can't be lately and before that, so much before too. "They're simple."

(...)

"The Old Man won't like it."

"He's not my commanding officer anymore."

"The President won't like it either."

Lee smiles faintly. "She'll think it the wrong thing to do. But she did want me to try those more often."

Tigh eye him for a moment, as if weighing his words, then nods a little curtly. "You'll follow my lead. No trying to be hero Apollo, sleuth top gun."

"Yes, sir," Lee says, trying to keep amusement out of his voice and suceeding just barely.

Tigh's gaze is strangely soft for a moment. "You'll never be an expert at wrong. You're the Old Man's son. Get a second-in-command to cover that field instead."

(...)

A bullet's taking Sam from her, and another came inches away from claiming Lee. Bullets. Just metal, but just flesh can't stop them.

"Lee," she says angrily, kissing him with all aggression that isn't really targetted at him. "Don't you dare get frakking murdered."

I actually got time off next week, so I can write on this, hurrah. Haven't done casefiles since the days of writing CSI fanfic, really. That feels like a really long time ago now. I do love me some murder mysteries and crime and it's a fairly large chunk of what I read and watch both.

Speaking of crime, I give you the sort of stuff you only usually see in movies: Guy tries robbery at narcotics police convention. The Associated Press news agency reported that when a journalist asked the suspect for comment as he was led from court, he said: "I'm smooth." You sure are, dude.

An albino brown bear has been born here in Norway, in a zoo. She's been named Salt, and her brown brother is Pepper. You can see pictures of them here. Awww.

Red Dwarf will be out with a new special soon (OMG YAY) and in honour of that you can win some Dwarf prizes. I want Rimmer's H, personally.

An Italian iniative via Facegroup to send condoms to the Pope. I'm actually sorely tempted to also send some, because the Pope has been pissing me off something fierce with his stupid condom remarks. The world has many issues, and going after what prevents a good deal of STDs and unwanted pregnancies is the Vatican's choice? BITE ME VATICAN. But LOL at these special condoms made in the Pope's honour.

Volunteers flock to 'Mars' experiment. The volunteers will apparently be inside a small metal container for three months without any communication with the outside world, with electronic monitors attached to various parts of the body and with frozen baby food and cereal bars for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Er. I'm all for scientific progress, but I think I would pass on that one. I don't think I would cope too well. Clasutrophobia is not an issue for me, but living so much on top of other people would be, I'm pretty sure.

After a suicide, police officers gave the seperated wife her man's belongings - including the rope he used to kill himself with. Oh, good grief. And this story is just depressing me majorly. I'm sure prejudice had nothing to do with that, no no. Perish that thought. /sarcasm

How's your weekend going?

You're making me sound like a slave diver.

Well, if that's my assigned role, then I demand that the Agathons make a fleeting appearance.

You are :P

Geez, demanding today, aren't we. But I shall see what I can do, since I'm too nice.

I'm not but since you're depicting me as such, I thought I'd just take advantage of the situation.

Means to an end and all that. I need my BSG fix in some form or another and couldn't resist the temptation of added Aghathon-ness in it.

Dunno where that bit will fit yet, but it popped into my head. Seemed to go with the general theme.

I approve of Agathons bits in principle, no worries. How they fit within the framework of the story is just a trivial detail. ;)

Mmm...for some reasons I'm not clear on (yet), Athena might be standing in during the autopsy Cottle is carrying out? (Two birds with a stone, at least for me- I get Cottle and one Agathon. :P) When Doc says something about the cause of death and what the victim went through Athena can pipe in with that remark.

A bit lame, but hey, you're the author.

Date: 2009-03-28 08:11 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Actually, I imagined it as a part of a conversation Helo and Athena have about Starbuck. But we'll see.

Doc Cottle will have to be in it one way or another, anyhoo. He is too awesome not to be.

See, that's precisely why I was not concerned about the fitting in thing. You've already figured it out. Next time I'll limit myself to making encouraging noises, as I always do. :P It's easier. *is lazy*

I haven't figured out why they're talking about Starbuck yet. This I must, and where it would fit in the timeline :P

Easter crime? Yet another reason Norway is awesome.

Really looking forward to the fic - anything that promises Saul Tigh and Lee Adama are sort of being Sherlock and Watson must be highly anticipated, non?

Yuuup. And every year there is an attempt to figure out just where this tradition comes from and every year no one is really sure. We're just weird.

Heh, we'll see. I joked about giving Tigh a pipe, but that might be pushing it. They're being all sleuth-y, anyway.

They did. How someone didn't at one point go 'hang on, isn't this a little bit insensitive?' I'll never know.

Oh yeah, writing on it as I comment. Just doing some disjointed scenes I want in there at the moment, I'll structure it more as it goes along.
