What to take pictures of, fandom stuff, icon request and icon meme

So quite a few people wanted me to take pictures and post them during this holiday. Anything in particular you want to see pictures of? I'm taking suggestions. Inside, outside, locally abouts and in the nearest city could all be done.

Stuff:

- Bill Adama, is that you posting to fandomsecrets? Awww. (Spoilers for Daybreak there.)

- LOL, K9 the series trailer looks a bit... Kinda really, really bad.

- I'm sure most of you have seen this wank concerning Supernatural fandom by now, but still. I mention it anyway, because wow. I've watched like maybe three episodes of that show put together, but it sure seems to bring out some crazy.

- I was nominated in the smith_awards apparently - be interesting to see how that turns out. (And for Ten/Martha, heh. Figures it would be for a pairing I wrote very little for.) All the stuff related to the CoT/children_time awards has just made cynical, and really, wouldn't a yearly award or something be enough? Eh well. We'll see how both of those go.

- I'm a little in love with this screencap. I wants icon, but my skills suck. Can I bug one of you to make one?

- Dollhouse is probably going to be cancelled, right? I am pondering what shows to try (apart from L&O: UK) now that my beloved BSG is done with its run, but I'm hearing such varying reports of it and if it's to be gone soon anyway... Eh.

norwegianne made this one for me. It's because I have 'world domination' in my interests and have a tendency to joke about taking over the world, as well as listing it as a lifetime ambition. I'm lightly mocking the tendency to think the world would be better if you were in charge and also indulging it a bit. So yes, the world is mine. It just doesn't know it yet.


mademoisellenon made this for me. It's Northern Lights over Tromsø, my childhood town. The text says 'Tromsøværing', which is what you call someone from Tromsø in Norwegian. I just love the image - I grew up with Northern Lights, but it still takes my breath away.


Ten and Martha. I love this image. Martha's back and the colours and light on her just look very pretty, and it's from the first episode when I really wanted to ship them too. At the end of the season, the writing had lost it a bit for me, but in this episode, they were awesome. maplest made it.


xmaidelx made this for me. It's Adama and Roslin and my proper OTP. This particular one is from Laura's visions of her own death in The Hub, and I liked the way the black and white heighlighted their faces and really made it so sad-pretty. Like their whole relationship.


falena84 made this for me. It's from a World of Warcraft screencap I took - my character is in a dungeon, and those dragons flying across will try to kill her later. What looks like a moon is actually her homeplanet of Azeroth. It was just a lovely image I captured - the show has some lovely scenes at times - and I got a surprise icon of it.

I watched the first episode of Dollhouse, but it just seemed too much like the Let's Dress Up Eliza Show. Frankly I was more than a little disappointed in Joss. However L&A:UK is awesome!

L&O:UK is pretty good, though if you've watched the original apparently you'll recognize the plots. I never did so I'm good.

Dollhouse gets better around the 5th episode, which no real surprise is the first one that FOX didn't F around with. I'm not real attached to it, though it does keep giving me shirtless Tahmoh.

Dollhouse had its growing pains, but as more and more of the supporting characters get fleshed out, it's getting better. The issue I think it suffers from is that you can't emotionally connect with someone who is different every episode. You can sympathize with what you think her plight is, but it's entirely possible she's in the Dollhouse to escape the penalties for genocide.

But her handler? Interesting. The doctor? Ballard? Topher? They are starting to shine. And yes, I just forgot the names of her handler and the doctor as I was typing. I have skillz. Anyways... even if it does get canceled, it's worth giving a shot. I'm thinking and hoping that they won't make the same mistake twice, that they'll give Dollhouse more of a chance to come to life.

Caroline/Echo? How could a college kid have perpetrated genocide? That's one of my biggest stumbling points - the evidence suggests that she hasn't done anything that wrong.

I'm exaggerating to show that we really don't know anything about her. It's just as possible that she did something very wrong as she did nothing and stumbled into a Dollhouse trap. But she did escape from her hospital room. She knew something was going on. That doesn't say innocent to me.

I'm hesitating to get too far into the conversation because 1) my opinion of the show is probably directly opposed to yours and 2) spoilers in this LJ.

She did something, that is a given. What I'm not convinced of is that she did anything that was as horrible as she believed it to be or the Dollhouse has suggested it was.

Re: CoT making you cynical

Y'know, I've been defending them, I still think it's a positive idea on a learning curve... but right now I'm headdesking pretty hard about the whole thing, because they're far enough along the learning curve that the people running it shouldn't still be making some of the mistakes that are being made. Especially because it's not like the "annual award by popular vote" idea is a particularly new one; why not simply shortcut most of the wank and the learning by adopting categories, titling, and procedures, etc., from other awards instead of reinvent the wheel?

As for Dollhouse - my unspoiler review the latest episode is "Joss Whedon is dead to me" and I haven't changed my mind. I don't think it's particularly groundbreaking, it's not well written particularly in comparison to other Whedon works, and it has constant abuse overtones (especially sexual abuse) that are creepy at best and possibly triggering.

Mmm, I do try to give things the benefit of the doubt, but there's just been so many different things, and really, the fact that it seems meant to just be going on constantly is a bit tiresome to me. It's like eventually, everyone will win one.

Triggering - Well, almost every mission seems to involve sex with a doll. Then I went up like a rocket this last episode when we find out that one character was dragged into the dollhouse for the crime of turning a guy's advances down. Said guy then hired her as a doll...

I love that protective Bill screencap, too! This is the scene which saved my days that terrible weekend of the finale... But I haven't watched it since then and I am perfectly happy and colected and I don't know what will happen if I watch the episode right now or if I do any art connected with it, so.... sorry. I'm sure there are many people who will help with the icon :)

I skim fandomsecrets for the fun of it, and BSG secrets pop up every now and then.

Well, those awards are for Doctor Who fandom - I used to write quite a lot of fic there. Anyway, there's been a lot of silliness about fanfic awards, and this is apparently some new thing with judging fics based on anon reviews. I dunno. But someone nominated me for one, so yay?
