Well, I'm back. Have seen it with brother and mother. Viggo Mortensen actually changed his ticket to show up at the first showing and see the mad Norwegians who had lined for two weeks to get tickets to that showing. Very nice of him.

As for the movie, I rather liked most of it. Now for the particulars... Spoilers warning!

I liked (in the order they popped into my mind):

Smeagol's gradual transformation to Gollum at the beginning.
Rohan celebrations and Merry and Pippin singing.
Also, Pippin's little song on his own while in Gondor.
The hobbits in general. This was their hour.
Legolas and Gimli's little exchange at the Black Gate.
Faramir. Much improvement from movie two. Also, Faramir sweaty and feverish=hot. Mmm.
Sam and Frodo's little forehead touch after the Ring's destruction.
Eowyn facing down the Witch-King.
Grong (sp?)
The Rohirrim charging and calling out 'Death'. Very effective.
The four hobbits meeting the sour hobbit from movie one and each going 'hey'.
Legolas is still the pretty, pretty Elf.
The big battles.
Gandalf's entry to Minas Tirith.
Elrond. Less wah-wah this time around.
Much improvement of Gimli.
Theoden.
Everyone bowing to the hobbits.
Music.
Breakfast came with the movie ticket. Thank you, O Colosseum.
The movie theatre.

I disliked:

No Faramir and Eowyn, 'cept for a look.
Arwen's whole 'fading' subplot.
PJ my man, you don't need to use slow-mo in *every* dramatic scene, yeah?
Ending felt rather choppy to me. But sad.
No shadow of Sauron after the Ring was destroyed.
No appendix info mentioned.
No Saruman's voice.
Denethor.
Cheesy lines.
"The last ship to the West." PJ dude, Celeborn did not leave with Galadriel and that was not the last ship to the West. Thank you.
Denethor's death.
Too much fade to black editing.
"The end." Nooo! Frodo lives, you bastards!
The theatre had three toilet stalls in the ladies room. Three! And here's hundreds of people wanting to use the toilet before the movie so one doesn't have to do it during.

So-so:
The dead army. Felt kinda meh at times.
Shelob.
The coronation.
Some of Aragorn's speeches.
Sam and Rosie. I wasn't very moved by it, but it had so little screen time, so...
Palantir plot. It appears, Pippin looks in it and we hear no more of it. And where did Denethor's palantir go?
Did all the orcs kill each other when Sam went to rescue Frodo? We see a fight, then suddenly most of them seemed to have dropped dead. Okay...
No naked Frodo. Is this good or bad? Who can say...
Gollum's fight with invisible Frodo. It looked a bit fake to me.

That's what I could think off at first go. Gonna have to see it again before I can say more just how I felt about it. Man, it's long and there's a lot happening.

Mum wants to go see it again too.

And my brother cried at the end. Heh.

*sigh*
It seems I'm the only one who didn't already see LOTR3.
I won't until sometime in January, and it just sucks...
*pout*

I was so happy they showed the Smeagol/Deagol bit, and then Smeagol's transformation to Gollum.

Pippin sang! Eowyn looked beautiful! Samwise and Frodo made me sob!

I reallllly hope PJ puts in a Faramir/Eowyn scene in the EE, or else it's just too random that they suddenly start standing together during Aragorn's crowning. Am also hoping for more Palantir scenes, especially with Denethor.

Yes...rotk

I personally just got back from a 12 hour lotr marathon...and am quite depressed. Because I am emotionally numb the whole emotions hit me like a ton of bricks but instead of seeping in, they slipped off like water drops on oil and left everyone but me sniffling like a baby...thats my dislike.

Another thing...Aragorn...the hair mate...the kingly hair, tsk tsk.

Likes? Legolas got a standing ovation just like he did at last year's marathon...except this time it was immediatley followed by hard laughter at Gimli's immortal words...(spoiler alert)

"It still counts as one!"

Yeah...and i hate this keyboard...my friend needs a new keyboard. Oh yeah...it's also currently 4.10am and i am still sitting in costume (yes i wore my medieval gear to the marathon...and was the only one actually. screw them i'm wearing it again on saturday when I go see rotk again. Holland is a dead zone...am depressed about that).
Oh...and there was a cute guy sitting next to me and he HAD to mention the size of haldir's nose...freaken ass...i couldn't get that out of my head for two whole movies.

Fug...it's all over. No more anticipation...What the heck am I going to DO with my life???

Honey, what did you expect? We're talking about Holland here... How do you think I feel?

But perhaps, if we all work together, we can get the word out! Alright all costume-crazy Dutch people, let's form an action group, or something... We can get this to work!

Sorry, I'm a little out of it. It is Holland you know...

I'm so jealous of you! There was a marathon nearby my place, but my mom wouldn't let me go. It was three days before my holiday started... A once in a life-time changes... And she wouldn't let me go... ;( Bleuh.

It's "Grond". And yeah, Grond was cool. They gonna make a T-shirt with that thing on the front, I wonder? Dammit, I want a screenshot. Preferably several screenshots.

The sour hobbit with the jowels is actually PJ.

Y'know, I felt positively . . . anticlimactic . . . through most of the movie. Like I didn't feel it as much as I should, or maybe as I might if I weren't surrounded by squealing Legolas fangirls. Real torture for an OFUM staff member.

Oh, yes, that and several moments when other fangirls, apparently hobbit fans, squealed and applauded over Frodo, Sam, Merry and/or Pippin. I had this horrible paranoid moment of worrying that I was surrounded by tinhats.

I'll need to see it again to make up my mind. I guess I'm still in the same, disconnected mood I was when I posted in my own LJ.
