Happy birthay, Norway!

Today is the 17th of May and Norway's National Day. *offers the traditional ice cream, warm waffles and hot dogs to all*

I haven't celebrated the 17th of May in Norway since 2001. It is good to be home.

And now for the traditional cheer...

Hurra! Hurra! Hurra!

Happy Birthday Norway!

I do hope the notorious lutefisk isn't on the (extended)list of traditional foods you are to eat.

Thanks for the waffles! Mmmm...waffles

Lutefisk? Certainly not. We want to enjoy the day, after all.

Happy birthday, Norway!

Of course, the real trick is to be able to sing it...

Oh, close, but no cigar. We say gratulerer med dagen (which more or less means "congratulations on this day"). Direct translations aren't always quite right...

Well, I'll have courses in both Norwegian and Danish next year :)

Happy Birthday, Norway!!

[starts on a poem of praise- gets distracted by ice cream]

When I was 8 I had a fetish for Norway. I really wanted to go there, and nagged about it for ages. My parents never gave in. :( Two years later, I fell in love with New Zealand, and two years after that, The Fellowship of the Ring was released. I'm still in love with New Zealand. Damn PeeJay.

The point of this story? I wanna go to Norway and New Zealand, dammit!!

Norway and NZ do actually have a lot in common (small, got fjords, got many mountains and not too many people), so I guess if you like the one, you will easily like the other.

I want to go to NZ too... Sniffle.

Yeah, that makes sense.

I'm really, really jealous of the LotR cast and crew. They got to stay there for a looooong time AND see things other people aren't allowed to because they're located in protected areas. Harumph.

But what's hard working if you're having fun doing it?

Neh, they deserve it. I lurved the films. For the most part. WTF?! Elves at HELM'S DEEP?!!

Happy National Day Norway! Hehehe. I thought that that was oven-baked pancakes and not waffles though? Oh well, I may have gotten mixed up somewhere.

No, it's definitely waffles. At least what we consider waffles.

And, for us un-edumacated lot, what is the difference?
And are hotdogs in Norway battered, on a stick?
What is the standard flavour of ice cream there?

*puts on party hat and hands out the chocolate-covered wetas*
Enjoy!
*consumes ice-cream and slips hot dog to mini-balrog*

Pancackes you make on the stove. Waffles you make with a waffle iron.

Our hot dogs are either eaten with hot dog bread or 'lompe', which I have no idea what is called in English.

Standard flavour of ice cream... Well, I guess that would be vanilla, usually with something on top or covered in chocolate. But we have many, many kinds of ice cream and taste is varied.

Hehe. Waffles then. No maple syrup or jam on top I suppose?

Date: 2004-05-19 12:22 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Jam is common to put on. Or just sugar and sometimes butter. But no maple syrup. We don't really do maple syrup at all.

Too bad. Maple syrup is good.

Hei ;)

From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Mmmmm-mmmm.

Birthday song for Norway

Me: This is your birthday song, it isn't very long! *giggles*

My alter ego: Happy Birthday. (huh)
Happy Birthday. (huh)
Death, Darkness, and Despair
People dying everywhere.
Happy Birthday. (huh)
Happy Birthday. (huh)

Me: That isn't very nice at all. Bad Alter Ego, BAD! *hits alter ego with a stick* Sorry about that. Happy Birthday to Norway! May your land be showered with lots of crickets!
