Olè, olè, olè!
Jun. 13th, 2004 11:55 pmIf you're wondring where I've wandered off to... I have surrendered to football madness.
It's the UEFA Football European Championship. Don't expect me online much. If you have an e-mail or a LJ message you want me to reply to fast, mark it urgent. Otherwise, I might not get back to you very fast. I'm on summer holiday; relaxing at daytime and watching football at night.
Speaking of football... My God, what a match tonight. France versus England. England leads 0-1 at full time and three minutes have been added to playtime (for various interruptions to teh game - this is common). England has previously burned a penalty kick that the French goalkeeper caught, but still, we're all thinking this is looking like England's night.
And then France gets a freekick eighteen metres or so away from the goal, and Zidane shhots - and scores! And we're barely gotten over that when just a minute later an English defender makes a horrid pass to his keeper that a French player picks up and the keeper tackles him - penalty to France! And Zidane scores! Two minutes and England went from a certain win to loss. France - England 2-1. What a game...
*sighs happily* I love football. And yesterday the host nation Portugal got its ass kicked in the opening game against Greece, totally unexpected. I love this stuff. And tomorrow, Sweden and Denmark both have matches. Go Scandinavia! Kick Bulgaria and Italy's ass!
And as a bonus, Tromsø won their match in the Norwegian league today and and is still in the lead.
I love my life.
P.S If you're American - football is what you lot call soccer.

And isn't the German team always in turmoil at the start of a championship? I seem to recall this from the last time.

Date: 2004-06-13 06:42 pm (UTC)And luckily, all matches will air on a free-to-air channel here in Norway. I'll be able to watch football until it seeps out of my ears.
I'm kinda hoping England will get far as well. It would be nice for England to finally do well in a tournament.

Date: 2004-06-13 06:45 pm (UTC)Lucky Norwegians...
Finally do well in a tournament. After what... decades? *grins* They do better than Scotland though *mourns her home country's terrible terrible football playing*

Date: 2004-06-13 06:50 pm (UTC)I like me some Scotland. Who was the icky team that tossed you out of the qualification? (Norway got tossed by Denmark first, who won the qualifying group, then in the play-offs Spain walked all over us. Bye-bye Norway.)

Date: 2004-06-13 06:52 pm (UTC)*shrugs* No idea. Just know they're not in it. Which is a shame as one the Scottish goalies is fairly good looking...

Date: 2004-06-13 06:56 pm (UTC)Tromsø has this hot young thing playing for them named Morten Gamst Pedersen. Eyecandy, excellent player and on my team. *sighs happily* It's like a football-kinderegg of joy.

Date: 2004-06-13 07:24 pm (UTC)*peeks at picture* That's him all right -celebrating a goal, I believe. Not the best picture I've seen of him.
Here's him flying: http://www.dagbladet.no/sport/2004/06/04/399657.html (Lovely shot)
And here he is with other players after crushing Rosenborg, Norway's best team: http://www.dagbladet.no/sport/2004/05/10/397982.html (In the second picture, he looks like he's about to smooch the goalkeeper. Heh.)
Crazy? Norwegians? Surely you jest!

Date: 2004-06-14 05:21 pm (UTC)Then again, everyone thought Portugal would easily beat Greece and that didn't happen.
I have no idea what channel could possibly air the European football championship. I don't know US channels. Your best bet is probably a cable sports channel of some kind. Maybe you can check a TV guide or something?
