If you're wondring where I've wandered off to... I have surrendered to football madness.

It's the UEFA Football European Championship. Don't expect me online much. If you have an e-mail or a LJ message you want me to reply to fast, mark it urgent. Otherwise, I might not get back to you very fast. I'm on summer holiday; relaxing at daytime and watching football at night.

Speaking of football... My God, what a match tonight. France versus England. England leads 0-1 at full time and three minutes have been added to playtime (for various interruptions to teh game - this is common). England has previously burned a penalty kick that the French goalkeeper caught, but still, we're all thinking this is looking like England's night.

And then France gets a freekick eighteen metres or so away from the goal, and Zidane shhots - and scores! And we're barely gotten over that when just a minute later an English defender makes a horrid pass to his keeper that a French player picks up and the keeper tackles him - penalty to France! And Zidane scores! Two minutes and England went from a certain win to loss. France - England 2-1. What a game...

*sighs happily* I love football. And yesterday the host nation Portugal got its ass kicked in the opening game against Greece, totally unexpected. I love this stuff. And tomorrow, Sweden and Denmark both have matches. Go Scandinavia! Kick Bulgaria and Italy's ass!

And as a bonus, Tromsø won their match in the Norwegian league today and and is still in the lead.

I love my life.

P.S If you're American - football is what you lot call soccer.

I may be an Ignorant American, but at least I'm not *that* ignorant.

No, but others are, sadly.

Yes, I *do* know that. I think that a lot of the ones who read your lj aren't that bad, though of course I can't pretend to know all the Americans who read your lj.

Hard to say how many who read it without commenting. Might be many, might be none. But better safe than sorry, as the saying goes.

Ah, yes . . . After all, you wouldn't want anyone to think that you enjoyed the stupidity that is American football.

Ohhhh... I don't dare to thing of the match on tuesday: Germany:Nederlands...

*hides her face in sorrow*

This team is embarrassing

I never count Germany out of a championship, no matter how embarresingly bad they've preformed before the tournament. They're one of those teams that are pretty much always dangerous in a chamionship, no matter what.

But at least your team qualified *looks pointedly at Norwegian team*

But at least your team qualified.

Yes...however they have managed that.

*grins*

And a heartfelt Sorry for the norwegian team...

From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Don't be sorry - it didn't deserve to qualify. It both sucked and blowed.

Since then it has impoved though, so perhaps next time we'll be there.

And isn't the German team always in turmoil at the start of a championship? I seem to recall this from the last time.

Gah! *glares at Zidane* Go... go away! Stupid French football players. *sniff* We were SO close. Literally. It was looking so good. And then... Gah! And the worse thing is, BBC Radio 5 Presenters don't like to tell you who've scored when they're shrieking about. So my brother and I are crowded around the computer holding our breaths for a minute. And to watch it on TV we have to pay $200! We'd get all the matches, but seriously. We'll only buy some of the select games on PPV if England get into the quarters/semi/finals. *hopes they do*

Gah. Inane ramblings of a football fan :)

I know. It's not far between heaven or hell in football. I was considering buggering off in the lats minutes cos I wanted a late snack. Thank God I didn't move - I would have missed the whole thing.

And luckily, all matches will air on a free-to-air channel here in Norway. I'll be able to watch football until it seeps out of my ears.

I'm kinda hoping England will get far as well. It would be nice for England to finally do well in a tournament.

Wow, good thing you didn't.

Lucky Norwegians...

Finally do well in a tournament. After what... decades? *grins* They do better than Scotland though *mourns her home country's terrible terrible football playing*

From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Yeah, it's been a while since England won anything... 60s, right?

I like me some Scotland. Who was the icky team that tossed you out of the qualification? (Norway got tossed by Denmark first, who won the qualifying group, then in the play-offs Spain walked all over us. Bye-bye Norway.)

'66 they won the World Cup I believe...

*shrugs* No idea. Just know they're not in it. Which is a shame as one the Scottish goalies is fairly good looking...

Ah, yes, the secret other joy of watching football: eyeing the players.

Tromsø has this hot young thing playing for them named Morten Gamst Pedersen. Eyecandy, excellent player and on my team. *sighs happily* It's like a football-kinderegg of joy.

*grins* Football is all about the good looking men obviously! And the whole... playing a game with this round ball you try to hit in the goals... Crazy concept ;)

...And after doing a Google Image search for his name this is the first thing I find...

*quirks eyebrow* Crazy Norwegians.

It's all about the balls, baby!

*peeks at picture* That's him all right -celebrating a goal, I believe. Not the best picture I've seen of him.

Here's him flying: http://www.dagbladet.no/sport/2004/06/04/399657.html (Lovely shot)

And here he is with other players after crushing Rosenborg, Norway's best team: http://www.dagbladet.no/sport/2004/05/10/397982.html (In the second picture, he looks like he's about to smooch the goalkeeper. Heh.)

Crazy? Norwegians? Surely you jest!

Football...if only I wouldn't have to stay up late or get up at 3:00 AM to see it. *sigh* That, and anything I see will probably involve Asian teams (not necessarily a problem). I'll have to try to find the Europe games on my limited selection TV. One of the many downsides of living here in America. Less football.

Date: 2004-06-13 06:45 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Actually, given the timedifference, the games would be on in the morning to noonish for you, depending a bit on where you live in the US.

And no Asian teams in the European championship. All Europe, all the time. Watch us go football-mad.

Date: 2004-06-13 09:30 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fiendery.livejournal.com
No, no, I was saying that when I do manage to watch football, the time difference would be between Asia and America, making for early, ungodly-hour mornings. But a break from Asia would be nice. Will have to try to find the football fever somewhere.

Date: 2004-06-14 05:17 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Aaah. I read that wrongly. Yeah, in Asia, it would be on at a unconvinient hour. As it were for Europeans when Asia hosted the World Cup.

Time difference, a pain in the ass.

What, the director of "Elling"? Sure I have. He's pretty known in Norway - several of his movies have done very well here, and Elling got an Oscar nomination. So over here he's well regarded. He's off in Hollywood on some project, I think.

You only realised now I was Norwegian?

Now you hurt poor Norway's widdle feelings. It knows it doesn't get paid attention to much, but most people have the decency to lie about that!

Not about Norway!

Norway seems to be a lovely place to be.

I wanna see the Fjords.

It has You and not Bush. I just forgot/never paid attention/connected that with Petter.

Ahh, so that explains where my boyfriend has been. Our AFL team is uh, pitiful at the moment so he's gone a little bit soccer mad. I think SBS is all that's keeping him sane.

Ahh, SBS. The channel of sex and soccer.

I love me some SBS. They were my favourite channel while I lived in Australia. They even sent some Norwegian movies.

WHY did England lose? WHY?!? *sobs* I love England.*sniffle* I hate France now.
Yeah, I love football, but I can't see any of the games, cause I don't know what station might play it. Could you tell me (if it's likely Americans have it)?

Date: 2004-06-14 05:21 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
They lost because the Gods are unkind...? But don't worry, in the next match England meets Switzerland, which they should easily win.

Then again, everyone thought Portugal would easily beat Greece and that didn't happen.

I have no idea what channel could possibly air the European football championship. I don't know US channels. Your best bet is probably a cable sports channel of some kind. Maybe you can check a TV guide or something?
