Yes! Yes! YES!

Denmark-Sweden 2-2! Italy is out! Denmark and Sweden are through to the quarterfinals! It was *the* result that was needed for both teams to go through and we got it! Long live Scandinavia!

(Read about it here. I'm too excited to be coherent about how teh match went and why 2-2 was the result needed. To see pics of cheering Scandinavians, go here. The text is in Norwegian, but you should be able to circle through the pics easily enough, as it has arrows to help out. Denmark's colours are red and white, Sweden's blue and yellow. The depressed blue team are the Italians.)

But good grief, it was a thriller. I'm still shaky. Luckily, now the two teams won't have to face each other again unless both get to the final, so I can happily cheer for both my neighbours. I love you both, Denmark and Sweden. Scandinavian grouphug!

I think the best part was when Sweden had equalized and it was only a minute or so left and both Swedish and Danish supporters were cheering and some were waving signs with "2-2=Nordic victory. Bye bye Italia". It was the result Scandinavia dreamt of and we got it.

I love this game.

Yay, Scandinavia grouphug!

Alright, so I don't watch the games, but that doesn't mean I can't participate in the hugs afterwards, right? *waves tiny Scandinavan flag*

You didn't watch the game? Bah. It was awesomeness. But you're forgiven, in the spirit of true Scandinavian brotherhood on a day such as this. Go us!

*wonders how the Scandinavian flag would look*

Ahh! Congratulations! *Brit hugs from America to Scandinavia*

I love it when the nice teams go through.

*nods*

I admit - it was extra sweet that Italy was kicked out. See, one of the Italian players spat on a Danish player during the Denmark-Italy matched (which ended 0-0) and that got us pretty mad. It's just downright ugly to do.

Gah. I hate it when the players do stupid things like that. But they're out now!

Scandinavia rules!!!

And the poor german fans are waiting for the disaster tomorrow, biting their nails...*sigh*

Yeah, the Czecks will be hard to beat. On the upside, they're resting their best players as they have already won the group, so Germany does at least have a shot at it. On the other hand, Germany has played appallingly bad so far. Holland's shown better form so far (the match against the Czecks was just brilliant on both sides). Germany will need to show far better - and pretty soon, as if they qualify, they get to meet Sweden in the quarter final.

But Germany has started badly and finished strongly before, so who knows...

Nah, Holland won't make it to the quarter finals. Holland SUCKS. And coming from me and most other people living in Holland, that's really bad.

Then again, Holland has a lousy coach. It's always been a bunch of losers, but qith this coach is infinitely worse. Some supporters of the Dutch team gathered money, bought a one-way ticket Portugal-Holland, and decided to offer it to him. [snerkage]

In any case, I hope Germany wins, just so Holland will be out. Maybe that'll teach them to start playing like a good team again- they're getiing PAID as such, so they should do better.

Hey, Holland did make it to the quarter finals!

Of course, now they get to meet Sweden... *cue omnious music*

I heard about the ticket to Mr. Advokaat - apparently though, it was a ticket to Belgium, as the supporters thought he shouldn't show his face in Holland for quite a while.B itter, much?

I'm as amazed as every other resident of the Netherlands is, really. Was watching... dunno, some film about Sir Arthur Conan Doyle last night, so didn't watch any games. Then my sister came home bouncing, shouting that the Czecks had won, and so had the Dutch. Blinked at her for about fifteen minutes. She was serious. (which goes to prove that miracles haven't left the world yet...)

Am still sceptic, though- I'll see how they do in the quarter finals. If they book any success it's not because of Dick (suitable name, really) Advokaat in any case. Think I'll actually be watching that game- if only because Sweden'll be playing. ^_^

*is amused* I don't follow sports of any kind so I haven't been paying attention to this all, but I must say I'm getting my fair share of amusement by just reading the ecstatic entries of people who are all caught up in this. ;) *pats the pink/purple ecstatic mood theme kitty*

Yay for Scandinavia! ^_^

Also amusing, I was listening to *really* loud music when I came across this report - Swedish, Danish, and even some Norwegian (Annbjørg Lien). I'd play it louder if my eardrums weren't already screaming. ^_^

:P:P

Yeah, I know, we football fanatics can be downright disgusting in our obsessiveness. But we have much funness, oh yes.

Go Scandinavian music too!

Hey hey, not calling football fanaticism "disgusting obsessiveness" or anything of the sort here - I just have to be amused that if I can't get entertainment from a sport, I can get it from the fans. :P~ Excitement is very contagious, ya know. :D

*cranks up that crazy hardanger fiddle music loud enough to make the Atlantic Ocean bubble and fizz*

Blast it, now I'm in the mood to dance, and I've freaked the cats out again. ^_^;

Tis okay if you were. Football fans do go overboard and sometimes way, way overboard and onto foreign shores. But we have fun, so to each their own, right?

You calling the Hardanger fiddle crazy?

Fun, cheering, dancing, music-blasting, happily celebrating football fanaticism is amusing. Sport fanatics going on rampages throughout a city, looting, breaking things, and getting arrested or getting into fights with other people over a game (whether they're ecstatic about winning or furious over losing) is disgusting fanaticism. I'm guessing you and your family haven't thrown any bricks through jewelry store windows and helped yourself to the store contents or picked fights with random Italians over this. ;) But I do love a good point-and-laugh over anything anyway... ;)

This particular Hardanger fiddle song is crazy - but I love crazy songs on traditional/foreign instruments. ;) Especially when they still manage to sound pretty.

Hey, I watched that game. Found it amusing, with the wet slippery field.

Well, I didn't dream of it. I wanted Denmark to move to the next level, but I hold no fondness whatsoever for Sweden. I wanted Italy to move on. Just so Sweden wouldn't. Darn.

Though the "Bye bye Italia" sign was funny.

Well, if I had to make a choice, mine would also be Denmark. But I rather like Sweden, so rather them a thousand times than bloody Italy. And the whole "Nordic victory" bit was greatly amusing.
