Thank you, football gods!
Jun. 22nd, 2004 11:44 pmYes! Yes! YES!
Denmark-Sweden 2-2! Italy is out! Denmark and Sweden are through to the quarterfinals! It was *the* result that was needed for both teams to go through and we got it! Long live Scandinavia!
(Read about it here. I'm too excited to be coherent about how teh match went and why 2-2 was the result needed. To see pics of cheering Scandinavians, go here. The text is in Norwegian, but you should be able to circle through the pics easily enough, as it has arrows to help out. Denmark's colours are red and white, Sweden's blue and yellow. The depressed blue team are the Italians.)
But good grief, it was a thriller. I'm still shaky. Luckily, now the two teams won't have to face each other again unless both get to the final, so I can happily cheer for both my neighbours. I love you both, Denmark and Sweden. Scandinavian grouphug!
I think the best part was when Sweden had equalized and it was only a minute or so left and both Swedish and Danish supporters were cheering and some were waving signs with "2-2=Nordic victory. Bye bye Italia". It was the result Scandinavia dreamt of and we got it.
I love this game.

Date: 2004-06-22 03:55 pm (UTC)I admit - it was extra sweet that Italy was kicked out. See, one of the Italian players spat on a Danish player during the Denmark-Italy matched (which ended 0-0) and that got us pretty mad. It's just downright ugly to do.

Date: 2004-06-23 12:13 am (UTC)Then again, Holland has a lousy coach. It's always been a bunch of losers, but qith this coach is infinitely worse. Some supporters of the Dutch team gathered money, bought a one-way ticket Portugal-Holland, and decided to offer it to him. [snerkage]
In any case, I hope Germany wins, just so Holland will be out. Maybe that'll teach them to start playing like a good team again- they're getiing PAID as such, so they should do better.

Date: 2004-06-24 07:20 am (UTC)Of course, now they get to meet Sweden... *cue omnious music*
I heard about the ticket to Mr. Advokaat - apparently though, it was a ticket to Belgium, as the supporters thought he shouldn't show his face in Holland for quite a while.B itter, much?

Date: 2004-06-24 08:48 am (UTC)Am still sceptic, though- I'll see how they do in the quarter finals. If they book any success it's not because of Dick (suitable name, really) Advokaat in any case. Think I'll actually be watching that game- if only because Sweden'll be playing. ^_^

Date: 2004-06-22 07:02 pm (UTC)Yeah, I know, we football fanatics can be downright disgusting in our obsessiveness. But we have much funness, oh yes.
Go Scandinavian music too!

Blast it, now I'm in the mood to dance, and I've freaked the cats out

Date: 2004-06-24 07:25 am (UTC)You calling the Hardanger fiddle crazy?

Date: 2004-06-24 11:44 am (UTC)This particular Hardanger fiddle song is crazy - but I love crazy songs on traditional/foreign instruments. ;) Especially when they still manage to sound pretty.

Date: 2004-06-22 09:34 pm (UTC)Well, I didn't dream of it. I wanted Denmark to move to the next level, but I hold no fondness whatsoever for Sweden. I wanted Italy to move on. Just so Sweden wouldn't. Darn.
Though the "Bye bye Italia" sign was funny.
