News and updates
Jul. 20th, 2004 01:14 pmNews from Norway:
US urges Norway to boost oil production
New law allowing gay adoption rights may be approved this fall
Norway still is the best country in the world to live in, fourth year in a row
Norwegian campaign to tell Bush where to stick it (it has an English version if you click on the little British flag)
*cheers and sticks tongue out at Bush* (Not that I think that little campaign will matter, but hey, you never know.)
In other (unimportant) news:
I have at last started writing again and new chapter of Nocturne is off to the beta.
My site has a new Norway page (if you have a myth you've heard about Scandinavia or a question you'd like answered for the last section of that page, feel free to voice it. Even in my LJ, if you prefer.)

At a pub, anno 2001. I'm the one in red, grinning like mad.
And finally, a meme to finish.

Date: 2004-07-20 07:35 pm (UTC)If I'd wanted to grovel, I'd've gone on for four pages about your beauty. But I thought that would be too Sueish, so I went with the sucking-up in lieu of the grovel.
Why yes, I am rationalizing madly here! How kind of you to notice.

Date: 2004-07-20 07:13 am (UTC)In other news I am the Ringbearer? I have to walk all the way into Mordor / Sauron's backyard to get rid of a silly tacky gold ring just because that silly Dark Lord-type lost it and some sadistic meanie Elves wanted to tease him rather than just give it back? I have to fall a ridiculous amount of times, act inconceivably naive, make irresistibly big eyes until they pop out of their sockets, get chased by a shrieking pack of dehydrated hyenas, walk around with a bunch of inbred halfwits only to flee from them halfway the journey, sleep on beds of stone, listen to bad poetry, get myself half-drowned by an evil tree, get stabbed by one of said shrieking dehydrated hyenas, turn fetid and greenish, get bathed a lot of times by
SamElves for no apparent reason, get close to being roasted by some kind of walking barbecue, get stabbed by a cave troll, swim in filthy marshes because of a lack of good drainage, eatbadly prepared waybreadlembas until it comes out my nose, pretend to trust some slimy fetid greenish guy only because I've been fetid and greenish myself, get stung by a spider only to be abandoned by my supposedly best friend after which I unavoidably get whipped by orcs, wear very bad Orc fashion AND climb all the way up some stupid volcano knowing it means CERTAIN DEATH all because that silly Dark Lord-type had horrible fashion sense?! Can't I just QUIT?!no subject
Date: 2004-07-20 05:40 pm (UTC)And no, you can't quit. Now get your irresisteable big eyes over here so I can freak people out with them.

Date: 2004-07-20 05:46 pm (UTC)There was once a polar bear roaming the streets of Tromsø, though. He'd escaped from private ownership (back in the days when enviromentalism was the sound of a bad cold coming up). Maybe that's what sparked the legend.
You wouldn't believe some of the stuff Americans believe about us. Did you know US Conservatives are proclaiming that allowing gay marriage has led to all Scandinavian women beging bed-hopping hoes and our society is about to collapse?

Date: 2004-07-20 01:14 pm (UTC)Interesting though, I've heard from other sources that there are six Scandinavian countries, one being Finland. Maybe those sources misused the word or should have used another one. *shrug* (That shouldn't sound like I'm critiquing as I don't mean to do so, I hope it doesn't. ^_^;)
I like how that headline subtitle in that thing that rated Norway as the best country to live in pointed out "United States is further down the list," and I'm strangely surprised that this country was as good as #8, but I guess when people are this angry at their country, it can be easy to forget it's got some things going for it. ^_^;

Date: 2004-07-20 05:27 pm (UTC)Ah, apparently those sources I'd seen should have said "Nordic" instead of "Scandinavian" when saying there were 5/6 countries. *shakes fist at them* ^_^;
If this comment doesn't post this time, I'm going to throw something unpleasant at either LJ or my internet connection or whatever's making it mess up. :P

From:Scandinavia vs Nordic countries
Date: 2004-07-21 04:16 pm (UTC)It seems people often confuse Scandinavia and Nordic countries. Finland is, I suppose, particularly prone to cause confusion, because it was part of Sweden for centuries (until 1809). Consequently, our culture is essentially Scandinavian even though we're geographically not a part of Scandinavia.
