Oh Odin...

So I go mucking about ff.net some and do some searches in the LotR fandom to amuse myself. One of the searched I did was for 'school' in the title.

There's over 70 'Fellowship goes to high school' fics.

Cue much despairing.

So then I peek at some of these and discover, to my great horror, that one of them is dedicated to me. With your/you're mistakes, a Uruk-hai and Orcish choir, random attempts at humour, homonyms and OOCness of the scale.

Kill me. Kill me now.

So now the dreaded thought has occured to me - what if there are hideous, hideous badfics out there either dedicated to me or mentioning OFUM as being an inspiration? Am I an inspiration for badfic? Have any of you seen such a thing?

Meanwhile - hold me. I need a hug.

Any person writing bad fic off of your story obviously missed the point and is in fact joining in the mocking of themselves without even knowing it. There has to be some sort of poetic justice in that.

Ouch. I haven't seen any such thing myself, but then I barely search for fanfic anymore. :\ "Inspiration" to people who write badfic or not though, I wouldn't call you or OFUM responsible for more badfic being put out there. Though it's understandable if that's not too much comfort. :\

I'm not a huggy or otherwise touching person, but I've got Swiss and Belgian chocolates to offer instead, if those are a worthy replacement. ;)

Think of it this way: Somehow, LotR and other really, really good books and TV shows are inspiration for really, really bad fanfiction.

If OFUM inspires this much fanfic, then, by the twisted logic of the Pit of Voles, you must be a really, really good author too!

Hey, you can always console yourself with the thought that your "inspiration" probably comes from entirely the wrong source----your popularity. You get lots of reviews, they want lots of reviews, so they dedicate it to you in the hopes that some of your mindless minions will come leave a review.

Fame has its downside.

*winces* Ouch. Can't say I've seen any badfic dedicated to you, but then, I avoid the Pit of Voles like the plague, except for a handful of authors that I've found and liked. And I tend to avoid the LotR and HP sections. But...I really don't think anyones responsible for badfic except the authors. I mean, everyone has the potential for goodfic, some chose not to use it.

Thankfully (in response to GreyLadyBast's idea about mindless minions) YOUR minions are only mindless when it comes to obeying you and searching out badfics. If I had found that monstrosity, it would be duly incinerated for defamation of character. Yours. *nods solemnly*
