Bush and Cam and Cam and writing
Sep. 14th, 2004 01:38 amA few days ago, I took the AOL Presidental Match and can announce that Bush and I agree on - wait for it - 2% of issues. Was naturally shocked and appalled. How the heck did Bush and I manage to agree on that much?
There was also a somewhat worldwide survey of 35 countries done on how the world would vote between Bush and Kerry and Norway was actually top of the list (along with Germany) in Kerry love. 74% would vote for him here, 7% for Bush (the rest for neither, I assume). 74% also said their opinion of the US had worsen since Bush came to power. This was also the case in almost all the other countries, even the ones who did like Bush somewhat. Ouch, I say. Obviously, We are not amused.
If you missed it, OFUM2 has a new chapter up. It's a bit more plot-setting than funny in my mind, but one does need a plot sometimes.
I also uploaded the prologue and ch. 1 of a new CSI fic, When the Dead Awaken. There be angsting and romantic tangles, all while trying to solve a murder case.
Been wondering why I like writing angst as much as I do - I'm certainly not a particulary angsty person. If anything, I'm usually fairly content and cheerful to the point where one wants to smack me with a trout. But perhaps I have an Inner Angsty Self, who retaliates at my cheerful disposition by making me write angst. Hmmm.
Well, it's as good a theory as any, innit?

Date: 2004-09-13 05:51 pm (UTC)As for why non-angsty people might like writing angst -- if you don't mind me tossing some theories in -- exploring the darker sides of things even when you're happy can be interestingly mind-stimulating. And it's kind of fun to get yourself into a mood you aren't naturally in for some odd reason, if you're the type whose writing affects her mood. Or it could be that people like seeing characters suffer -- you either just want to hug their vulnerable little selves (if they're likable) or think "Haha, s/he deserved it!" (if they're particularly loathsome). Angst is also a good way of seeing new sides of characters, another interesting thing. But I could just be full of it here. ^_^;
*duct tapes her fingers together to stop typing and goes to read new OFUM 2 chapter*

Date: 2004-09-14 01:39 am (UTC)I'm one of those people whose writing do definitely not affect the mood of. I'll killl loveable character and be cheerful while doing it. Perhaps I do like to see them suffer, who knows?
I did actually kill John Howard and Bush in a fanfic once and I find them loathsome. *nods sagely* So perhaps you're on to something there.

Date: 2004-09-14 04:13 am (UTC)Ooh, sounds like you're just a sadist there, and that one might fear having you as a writer. (Somehow that made me picture you holding a magnifying glass between the sun and the suddenly ant-like Bush and Howard, chuckling evilly...)

Date: 2004-09-14 03:24 pm (UTC)Ah, I love that mental image. I want an icon of it (not sure how, but...) I adore Sadistic Me Frying Howard-Ant and Bush-Ant. Ah, if only...

Date: 2004-09-14 04:37 pm (UTC)Hmm... *dinks around* Someone needs to invent a computer program where you imagine an icon you'd love and *Poof!* there it is, ready for upload. I did find a cartoon picture of a boy frying ants with a sadistic look on his face, but I just couldn't make it look good when I pasted Bush's and Howard's faces in. Oh well...

Date: 2004-09-13 06:19 pm (UTC)Watch me pretend...it'll be great fun!You got 2% with Bush? How did that happen? Only 2%?!?!? But you've been such an ardent Bush supporter your whole life..2%? Good Heavens, I shall faint from the shock...
Inner Angsty Camilla...fascinating. May I meet her? She and I will get along lovely. Actually, scratch that, I want to meet the cheerful one first.
And be the first one to chase after her with a troutno subject
Date: 2004-09-14 01:42 am (UTC)Ew, I felt dirty writing that. Ugh.
Cheerful Cam doesn't want to come out since you're insulting her. Angsty Cam is sleeping, since it's way too early in the morning for her. You'll have to settle for Grumpy Morning Cam, my brain's not-so-cheerful breakfast companion.

Date: 2004-09-13 07:25 pm (UTC)But what scares me more is the idea that some people might actually decide who to vote for based on some AOL quiz.
And....why is Kucinich, who isn't running anymore, on the list--as opposed to say, Nader, or the Libertarian Party candidate, or some other guys, who are?
(I voted for Howard Dean in the primary, by the way).
