Happy Days
Jan. 6th, 2005 05:58 pmI'm back at my place, and with new computer (now I just have to get all my stuff from the laptop over to here - sigh) and my lovely broadband. I even got myself a new webcam that I'm going to install and I've been amusing myself by playing LotR: The Third Age. Now there's a game that would make Tolkien wonder if someone rewrote the book while he was dead. Still, somewhat amusing.
The good news is that the list of missing Norwegian have gone down and we're looking at far less dead than we suspected. This is good, though it hardly diminished the tragedy of it all. We're looking at around a hundred dead, which is still a huge blow to our little land, but not as much as we feared. And compared to Sweden, we were lucky.
Sweden mourns their dead
In more disgusting news, check out the image in this Norwegian newsstory. Apparently, some American Baptist Church is hoping Sweden loses 20,000 as they are "a dirty, disobidient generation" and have "satanic laws". Charming. This is apparently Fred Phelps's church. I see how he got his lovely reputation all right. You'll be happy to know, Fred, that Sweden is missing thousands, though not as many as you would have wanted.
I wish I could smack him with a whale. Then I would get nasty.
ETA: I found their website. Um, yeah...
ETA 2: What Phelps said
Oh ye Gods. I didn't think it was possible for me to be this angry.

Date: 2005-01-06 09:40 am (UTC)I'd better not print out how I'd like to treat him... So angry! And I don't even really know anyone who was affected.
*Grrr*

Date: 2005-01-06 09:43 am (UTC)Anyway, all that is to say: do not, repeat, do *not* take anything he says as indicative at all of the way American Christians think of the disaster or, for that matter, of Sweden.

Date: 2005-01-06 09:46 am (UTC)He what now? I couldn't read the article, but DAMN! As an American I would like to personally apologize for this fucker. I wonder if these people ever stop to think that Jesus would surely not approve of their stupid signs or mindless hate-spouting. "God hates fags" indeed.
Need any help swinging that whale?

Date: 2005-01-06 09:51 am (UTC)But when I was in the States, I did notice a certain trend among conservative Christians to think Scandinavia TEH EVOL. I wasn't always amused.

Date: 2005-01-06 10:36 am (UTC)That's the type of person that makes Christians look bad... I may not approve of everything you guys do over there, but I don't believe God hates anyone, and I'm definitely not going to rejoice that people are dead!
*grumbles*
I admit that I haven't been watching much about the tsunami, partially because the whole thing just seems kind of unbelievable to me.
*hugs to Scandinavia, even if e-hugs really just aren't the same as real hugs* I'm sorry.
*And megahugs to the people where the Tsunami actually hit!* :(

Date: 2005-01-06 10:45 am (UTC)*SMITES* I can't believe there are people dumb enough to believe that shit. It was a NATURAL DISASTER. Most of the people dead and missing are KIDS. Are there really people believing that these children deserved to die? That somehow they earned it? *snarls* This... cult are not Christians. I don't even think they qualify as human.
When Phelps die, he's in for a BIG surprise...

Date: 2005-01-06 10:58 am (UTC)But geez, it's not like little Scandinavia is hurting anyone and the way Phelps and ilk rant about how we're all bedhopping hoes over here you'd think we were guilty of some greater crime than following our convictions. Geez.

Date: 2005-01-06 11:00 am (UTC)Yeah, Phelps think gays deserve death just for what they are and so do Swedes, apparently. As I said, he's a charming fellow.

Date: 2005-01-06 11:17 am (UTC)What can I say? I find it hard to believe that he's for real. Surely there aren't really people who believe this? It's quite scary.

Date: 2005-01-06 12:58 pm (UTC)I rather liked the attached article - a Buddhist monk in Canada has decided that best way he can help is to sell his temple to raise money.
