I feel an urge to slap the Americans who leads this anti-France trend silly. People doing it is one thing, but responsible leaders supporting it (I speak of the House of Representatives)? Urge to feel anti-American rising... Freedom Fries and now this. France has plenty of bad behavior to go attack, so go do that rather than this immature "oh, oh, let's rename anything that has French in the title, hihi". Why not talk about what France did to a certain African country after a free election? Now there's something that you could use to show France being ruthless. This is just silly.

Speaking of anti-America, I took a peek at a recent poll concerning what foreign TV channels Norwegians trusted the most. BBC was by far the one, over half the people asked trust them the most. But the second choice was most interesting. AlJazeera. It had over 20% of the votes, compared to CNN's measly 8. Very interesting. More Norwegians trust an Arabic television channel than an American one (despite being The Land of the Free - bah). Ho hum.

I think after all this is over, if the US does not win the propaganda war (and let's not kid ourselves, it is propaganda on all sides here), they may find that they have a problem on their hands. I dread to think of what the mood in the Arabic countries is like. If even I, European and a Westerner, feel an urge to hate America, what must they feel?

On the topic of being immature and silly... I think I shall go petition Millikov about a Save the World, Kill a Git website, where gits all over the world will be archived in a Hall of Gittiness. It would be fun. Hee.

Did you know French fries were made by a Dutchman?? Yeah, but he named them French for reasons unknown. Though French does have more of ring than Dutch.

That's not the point (well it kind of is), point is, I feel we shouldn't give the Statue of Liberty back. Why?? Because it is a symbol of when times were good between the French and Americans. Plus it was a gift. Once a gifts given it should not be given back. That's re-gifting, and that can be very rude especially if you're re-gifting to the original giftee. I like my French copper where it is!!!

I feel that if we do win this war, what are we to do with the people of Iraq?? we killed/captured/whatever their dictator, now what do they do? I really don't think the US should be meddling with other countries telling them what to do. But hell, once you start a job, you have to finish it and we will be paying the price.

Before you start to stereotype against all Americans living and dead, try to remember that magazines and a handful of corrupt politicians represent America as little as French fries do France. We aren't the sick, narrow-minded, idiotic group of hicks that have absolutely nothing better to do that curse out foreign nations you obviously think we are. Well-educated, sensitive and intelligent Americans are as easy to come by as well-educated, sensitive and intelligent Norwegians. The few people in America who actually support this anti-French trend truly believe that they are supporting their country. Yes, they are stupid and uneducated but are you telling me that no European nurses stereotypes? Judging from you alone, I can see they do. I understand where you're coming from, but you need to calm down a little bit and think about things. Do you know Camilla personally? Have you ever communicated with her other than reading her journal entries? I can't believe that you have, because if you did, you'd know that she accepts most people for who they are.

She doesn't. /I'M/ American and I talk to Camilla on AOLIM occasionally. I've found her to be a very intelligent and open-minded person and she has NEVER said anything offensive to me concerning the fact that I'm American. In fact, she's never said anything offensive to me at all. I sure don't feel stereotyped.

"Despise every one of us"? This once again convinces me that you've never directly talked to her. It's true that she can be brutally honest at times, and she's never afraid to tell her opinions, but those are good qualities.

From the way she's talked to me, I'm pretty sure she doesn't despise me. And I'm American. Whups, there goes any potential truth in that opinion down the toilet.

Note the phrase "the Americans who leads this anti-France trend." She didn't say Americans in general. She referred to only the ones who are being stupid. And you know what? I, an American, would like to slap them, too.

Now, I'm in support of all people who stand up for their opinions, but not only are you being cowardly by remaining anonymous, you're not even reading what she's saying carefully. So, she has a beef with the American administration. I do, too. She doesn't like how stupid some Americans are acting. Neither do I. And I'm American.

You're being a hell of a lot more judgemental than Miss Cam is, and at least she has the courage to stand up and say her opinions, whether people agree with her or not. You're afraid to even put your opinion under a penname.

I've posted this elsewhere before but it could bear repeating. The French have been our longest allies, but the issue is a bit more complex than the whole 'freedom fries' debacle, which is just rediculous. However...

France sold Iraq its nuclear reactors. When Israel bombed them, France offered to replace them. Levels of anti-Semitism in France today rival those appearing during the Second World War, and have not been seriously addressed by the French government. The graves of American war dead have been defaced with fascist symbols, and threats. These are people who died to liberate France. I have to say myself, that this has not been my experiance, but my relatives who died there during that war are buried near small towns. I've always found their graves lovingly tended, as if they were cherished, by some anonmyous French person. However, it has to be said, that any populace which takes Le Pen seriously as a candidate has some issues.

As for propaganda, I asked a Palestinian friend of mine how he felt, now that the warehouse full of bodies had been uncovered near Basra. He looked at me blankly. "What are you talking about?"

Al Jazeera had not covered that at all. Furthermore, one of my friend's friends firmly believes that the Iraqis rejoicing in the streets, and tearing down all of Hussein's statues are being paid to do so by various sinister American organizations. It does make me feel any better about the massive peace protests to find out they were funded by Internation ANSWER, a profoundly anti-Semitic group. The fact that this has not gotten a lot of exposure is sort of interesting, too. What do you call that? Propaganda by ommission?
