The Pains of People
Mar. 18th, 2005 12:49 pmI'll be heading to le parents to housesit for a week while they get tanned in Italy. I might be on AIM, but don't freak out if you don't see me on any of the other IMs. (Dad's computer got an install-block. Sigh.) E-mail me or leave a LJ comment if you want to reach me. I have great plans to watch cable, read Easter crime, write fanfic and cuddle the cat. And possibly pig out on Easter marzipan. Just me and the cat - and I'm looking forward to it.
Today I put on Nick Cave and sang along to "People Ain't No Good." Because really, sometimes, they just ain't.
It ain’t in their hearts they’re bad
They can comfort you, some even try
They can nurse you when you’re ill of health
They bury you when you go and die
It ain’t in their hearts they’re bad
They’d stick by you if they could
But that’s just bullshit
People just ain’t no good
People they ain’t no good
People they ain’t no good
People they ain't no good at all
Sometimes, we really ain't no good to others. We hurt each other. We make mistakes. And what advice, if any, can you ever give to someone who's forceful reminded of that fact? I'm a Norwegian. Faced with any kind of drama, I feel like trotting off to nature and walk it off. And feel tempted to give people faced with shit that very advice. I'm not sure I'm the greatest advice giver in the world. Ah well. I think sometimes people just want to talk to sound it out for themselves. In the end, our lives are always our own to solve and make tangles of. Of course, my other way of dealing with things is write about them and thus I wrote this tiny blurb for East of the Sun, West of the Moon:
"I made a mistake."
He could lie and tell her she didn't and maybe she would even believe him. But he could feel his own mistakes piling in the back of his mind, echoes of the past that lived on in the present. Deny them and they gained hold of you. Remember them and you were stronger, as long as you didn't let them haunt you. Always the balance to find.
"I know," he said instead. "It doesn't matter. We're all human. We all make mistakes. We all move on."
Silly icons I made today (Catherine/Warrick):
