I'm feeling slightly annoyed of late. Maybe it's all the OMG!DRAMA!OMG!Complications! wherever I turn. Ever had a desire to hold a blinking neon light with "ENOUGH" to the world?

But I have fallen in love with the "complicated is the whole point" quote (it's on one of my Catherine/Warrick icons, if you missed it. Actual quote from the show), so maybe I shouldn't say anything. (And that quote would make a kickass subtitle for a multishipper place, I'm telling ya.) Maybe complicated and drama is why we can love the simpler things.

Like Easter marzipan and writing for the joy of it. But sometimes... Sometimes I almost do miss the younger, younger me, where the borders of my life was far as I could walk and one day seemed the longest time.

I sigh that kiss you,
For I must own
That I shall miss you
When you have grown.

- A Cradle Song
by William Butler Yeats

But memories are illusions - though like the best illusions, with a hint of truth. We do construct our memories. Perhaps we also construct simplicity. The world is so complicated that making a shelter of the simple is alluring. Perhaps that is what I like to do in my little Norwegian cocoon. And perhaps that is why I get annoyed when it is disturbed.

Perhaps.

Yes, because, y'know, you have to have the opposite of the thing to appreciate the thing itself. Can't have one without the other, because then you'd have nothing to compare either of them to. Fkjldg. I'm sure you know all this. :p

But yeah, I am also way fed up with all the lame-ass drama that's saturating my flist right now. It almost makes me want to defriend everyone. But only almost, because then I wouldn't be able to secretly make fun of them anymore. Sigh. Eljay drama. It's like high school without all the homework.

Mmm, icon love.

Yes, I know. Doesn't stop me from hissing about it now and then. And I went to the Norwegian equivalant of high school and boy, we never had this much drama there. Music taste was assuredly more horrid back then, though.

Blæh, I say. Blæh.

You quoted Yeats! ::hugs you::

I've been lucky enough to avoid any lj dramas. With my old lj (not really old, just kinda got sucked into a black hole from which I was never able to recover it back in January. I should really search out my old friends, I just wish I could remember exactly how they spelled their usernames since there is no "close approximation" function. But I digress.) Anyhow! With my old lj, I hadn't friended a ton of people. The ones that I had were really easygoing and laid back so I guess, yeah, I've lucked out. Except that lj ate my old journal. :(

Sorry that things suck.

Oh yeah. I've loved Yeats since I first read "The Second Coming".

Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Eh, such is life. It isn't all LJ drama, either. Drama comes everywhere, if you ask me.

Best. Poem. Ever.

And yeah. Drama. Life. ::groans:: Work's been kinda like that for me lately. Not with fellow staff members but with HQ. It's almost gotten to the us vs. them stage. If we were countries, talks would have broken down and we'd be rallying the troops for war.

Ah... Life is life and smut is smut, as I've said before. And life needs some drama to be interesting enough to live. :)

Marzipan? EW. But I sometimes I, too, miss my younger days, when I was 5 or so, when the world was small and I didn't worry so much about stupid things. :P

And the past always seems better than the present, because who'd want to remember the bad things that had happened? No, you tend to remember the happy days mostly...

OHMYGOSHMEMELOVE!111!!1

1) Does my username suit me?

Yes. The 'miss' part evokes a feeling of greatness to you. And Cam... Cam is a hard word. It brings (to me) a feeling of a strict teacher. :P

2) Is my journal's title cryptic or descriptive? What do you think it means?

What, 'here resides the cam'? I think it is appropriate. It means what is says.

3) Does my journal expand your knowledge of me?

Yes, to some degree as you tend not to speak of very personal things. (Unlike angsty lil' me :p)

4) Do you think my bio describes me well? (Do I even have a bio?)

YES.

5) Which of my interests surprises you the least?

Eowyn/Faramir. OR Elves in black leather.

6) Which of my interests surprises you the most?

Hmm... Urple, perhaps, or Eurosong. Both are (more than) slightly distubing.

7) Which of my interests needs explaining?

None. Completely logical to me.

8) Which of my userpics suits me best? Everyone of them. :)
9) Which of my userpics suits me least? -
10) Which of my userpics needs explaining? No need for explanations.

I'm not the only one who misses their childhood, huh? *smiles a little* nice to know... I miss the days when you could just go and play... no hatred, no prejudice... just playing for the sake of playing, of living life to the fullest with no boundaries, with no regrets... *sighs* I must sound strange, so I'll just shut up now.

Date: 2005-03-21 09:49 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sekhmets-temple.livejournal.com
No, you don't sound strange at all. I get that. Totally. There was always something about letting your imagination have free reign when playing. Anything was possible. Now, even in my mind-wanderings and daydreams, I can't let myself go all "Secret Life of Walter Middy" because the stupid, rational part of my brain says, "Dude, that's not possible or realistic." Shut up brain! It's a freakin' fantasy. Realism is not part of the modus operandi. Now I must be the one who sounds strange.

I think I know this poem ... Does it go like this?

The angels are bending
Above your white bed
They weary of tending the souls of the dead

Coz that's the poem a composer named Alan Bevan put to music and wrote for my choir!! Haha! I just thought that was really cool.

From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Well, almost, yeah. The whole thing is:

The angels are stooping
Above your bed;
They weary of trooping
With the whimpering dead.

God's laughing in Heaven
To see you so good;
The Sailing Seven
Are gay with His mood.

I sigh that kiss you,
For I must own
That I shall miss you
When you have grown.

It's lovely. I imagine it made a good song.

We all need our cocoons, I think. Mine are my coding, graphics and writing and I've found myself escaping in them over the past few days. Its what I always do when things get to be too complicated, too confusing, too stressful.

Its necessary to be able to step back sometimes from things that in the grand scheme of things, are not that crucial. (and to recognize they aren't) If you let them all build up with no relief, it can really become too much pressure emotionally and every little thing seems like a major crisis.

Our cocoons are often our joys as well so embrace them. They are not an escape, they are the key to our sanity.

Date: 2005-03-21 10:15 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Yes. But you can get too lost in the cocoon. Sometimes, you have to face the onslaught of reality too. It's always about the fine balance, the knife's edge of life.

That is a beautiful poem.

The sad thing is that I only realize I've written drama or angst the moment I've posted. I guess that can happen when RL is one big angst fest at the moment, but that doesn't mean others need to suffer along. It just slips sometimes. (I probably need a hobby.)

Yay, romantic poets! That's what we're studying in English right now, along with Frankenstein.

It is an ancient Mariner, and he stoppest one of three.
By thy grey brow and (erm... something something), now wherefore stopp'st thou me?
There was a ship (something else), there was a ship, quoth he.
(Something, something)... unhand me, greybeard loon!
Eftsoons his hand drops he.

I cannot believe I actually read all of that poem. In one sitting.

1) Does my username suit me? - Yes, because you can be Cam or Misscam whenever you want to, and it's a pretty individual name.

2) Is my journal's title cryptic or descriptive? What do you think it means? It's self-explanatory, really.

3) Does my journal expand your knowledge of me? Very much.

4) Do you think my bio describes me well? (Do I even have a bio?) Yes. Short, sweet and to the point.

5) Which of my interests surprises you the least? Bagging the Shrub.

6) Which of my interests surprises you the most? This sudden obsession with icons.

7) Which of my interests needs explaining? Faramir/Eowyn, I'd just like to know how you got started.

8) Which of my userpics suits me best? the "kiss my tail" fox one, and the "property of Cam"

9) Which of my userpics suits me least? You've got good taste, you're probably not using the ones that don't suit you anyway.

10) Which of my userpics needs explaining? None really, but I love that one you've got of Stewie... yay Family Guy! He's the best cartoon character, along with Mr Burns. ^_^

Oh, I often get sudden new obsessions - or rather, I suddenly get more passionate about things I really like. (See: LotR, CSI.) It comes and goes. I've always liked nice graphics, but of late I find I really like it.

Faramir/Eowyn - well, that's been shimmering since I first read LotR aged 14. Always been one of my favourite parts of the book. But I guess the movie brought it more to attention.

Yeah for quoting Yeats! My favourite poem of his is The Man Who Dreamed of Fairyland, though. Well, I have been told that it is proof of poetic bad taste to prefer his late Romanticism to his modernist phase, but, hell, who cares? :)

Meme:

1) Oh yes, it does. My opinion might be due to the fact that I found your journal only after reading OFUM, but misscam is perfect for your darker side. :D

2) Your journal title is rather obvious, isn't it?

3) As you are a regular poster and take a lot of time to update your journal (and not only with fandom-related information), it really does.

4) Your bio is a very succinct summary, and it fits with the mental image I get from reading your entries.

5) Hunks. Men. And ogling. :D

6) I was a little surprised to find the OED in your interests list, but I'm a dictionary geek myself...

7) Quite a few, to be honest. What are blue heelers? What does fametracker mean?Who or what is Robin Hobb? Or have I simply been living under a rock?

8) Probably your standard icon with your own lovely self on it.

9) I don't know, as I like them all and think they do suit your interests.

How about 'urple'? I think it's a perfect word to describe the garish colour combinations (orange-red-pink) that are haunting German fashion stores right now.

And I love discovering new words.

I've recently found a great word that is just perfect for describing all geeks. Unfortunately, it's from an Old English dictionary, so nobody will understand it. The word is dysigcraeftig, which means "skilled in useless and foolish arts". I wonder whether the Anglo-Saxons knew me in one of my former lives. :D

I don't think I've read The Man Who Dreamed of Fairyland...

I wanted to send you an link, but a google search yielded nothing. It doesn't seem to be part of an online collection. But if you ever find a volume of Yeats's major poems, look it up. It is really very charming.

Urple is as good as any. I'm not picky. Any word of my creation will do. It's just the matter of actually getting it into OED...

3) Does my journal expand your knowledge of me?
Yes, it's very well written and clear.

4) Do you think my bio describes me well? (Do I even have a bio?)I think it does. You kind of lay it all out for everyone to see.

Journalism.

No, that's sharks sharks. I have a deep and abiding fascination of sharks and many other lethal things. Sharks are sleek, fast, deadly and almost cute, in a horrific way. They're high on my list as animals I wouldn't mind being reincarnated as.

New Vinland - well, Vinland is what the Vikings named North America when they found it. New Vinland will be what the US will be known as when I invade.

Smeghead is an insult from the sci-fi comedy Red Dwarf.
