Off the top of your head, right now, what ten 'ships would you likely drop what you're doing to read fic for. Or, alternately, what are the top ten ships that you'll give a fic a chance for, or that you've been dying to write, or that you've been dying to read.... These can be new loves, old flames, or something in between. Explain if you like, but you don't have to. Then tell us 3 things these ships say about you. Leave a comment about what you think these ships say about me, then repeat in your own LJ.
(Random order, with quotes, just because.)
1. John Sheridan and Delenn, Babylon 5. Ah, what to say. My favourite couple of my favourite sci-fi. John is a human, Delenn is Minbari and the two races was at war ten years prior. Despite this, the two form up a friendship which eventually lead to love. And eventually, Sheridan died and left Delenn alone with the sunsets and broke my heart.
John: I fell at Z'ha'dum, Delenn. I saw my own death and excepted it. I looked up and saw Anna, what was left of Anna, and at that moment I said goodbye. A goodbye I could never say before. I let it all go. I only held on to one thing. The image of your sweet face. If I never came back, that was enough. But you gave me reason to come back. Could I love that much and not forgive?
2. Frank and Rachel, Water Rats. Ah, UST. They never did get together, and when he went out sailing to Venezuela, she stayed behind, having a kid and all. And then she died, tragically, and her last words were Frank... Is it Frank? Sadly, fandom's pretty much dead.
Rachel: When I was in the trunk of the car, do you know what I kept thinking?
Frank: What?
Rachel: I wish I had never taken that stupid mobile phone to the resturant
Frank: To tell you the truth, I kept thinking of the time you were away. You know, after Knocker. Those replacements of yours didn't want to drive. I didn't want to drive. They refused to drive. It was a bit of a nightmare. Anyway, I better shove off.
Rachel: Don't go. Stay with me
3. Sara Sidle and Gil Grissom, CSI. Bit of an ongoing 'ship, this. Two very dedicated scientists in Las Vegas and more angst than you can shake a stick at. It appeals to the darker sides in me and the idea that who we fall for is not always who would seem best for us. And they do seem to mindmeld sometimes.
Grissom: I've been a baseball fan my whole life.
Sara: Baseball. Well, that figures. All those stats.
Grissom: It's a beautiful game.
Sara: Since when are you interested in beauty?
Grissom: Since I met you.
4. Catherine Willows and Warrick Brown, also CSI. My lastest addition to the 'ship list, though I think I've been gradually falling in love with it over the years. I think it's the chemistry between the pair, the understanding they seem to share. And oh yeah, Warrick is hot.
Warrick: Bet you were like that in high school.
Catherine: Worse.
Warrick: Oh, you were the girl I ran away from.
Catherine: Yeah. Till you caught me.
5. Éowyn and Faramir, Lord of the Rings. One of my first ever loves, ever since I read the book at 14 or so. They've both been hurt and scarred by life and the way they find healing together just makes me a gooey mess.
Faramir: Do not scorn pity that is the gift of a gentle heart, Éowyn! But I do not offer you my pity, For you are a lady high and valiant and have yourself won renown that shall not be forgotten; and you are a lady beautiful, I deem, beyond even the words of the Elven-tongue to tell. And I love you. Once I pitied your sorrow. But now, were you sorrowless, without fear or any lack, were you the blissful Queen of Gondor, still I would love you. Éowyn, do you not love me?
6. Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. Opposites attract, in this case the sceptic and the believer and it was a glorious, glorious UST not even the dodgy last few seasons could ruin for me.
Scully: What if there was only one choice and all the other ones were wrong? And there were signs along the way to pay attention to.
Mulder: Mmm. And all the... choices would then lead to this very moment. One wrong turn, and... we wouldn't be sitting here together. Well, that says a lot. That says a lot, a lot, a lot. That's probably more than we should be getting into at this late hour.
7. Legolas and Gimli, Lord of the Rings. The Elf and the Dwarf, two races who don't much get along and yet these two formed such a strong friendship that it is hinted Gimli even followed Legolas to the West. Friendship only perhaps, but what a friendship.
Gimli: You are a Wood-elf, anyway, though Elves of any kind are strange folk. Yet you comfort me. Where you go, I will go.
8. Rita and Chris, Silk Stalkings. Two homocides detective and a show that was in retrospect perhaps not the postershow for quality. But I didn't care. I wanted these two together oh so badly. And I got my wish. Then he died. It's a cruel world.
Chris: You scared the hell out of me... I can handle anything except losing you.
9. Wolverine and Rogue, X-Men movieverse. I have never read the comics, but I know this pairing is nowhere supported in Canon and she kills people with her touch, but yet... I find the two together attractive. Maybe it's my inner fucked-up teenager, who knows.
Logan: So what kind of a name is "Rogue"?
Rogue: I don't know. What kind of a name is "Wolverine"?
Logan: Name's Logan.
Rogue: Marie.
10. Nynaeve and Lan, Wheel of Time. He's the heir to a dead kingdom, she's the Village Wisdom turned Aes Sedai. He's more or less on a mission to die and she pulled him back.. They did marry, but who knows what Jordan will toss of nastiness...
Lan: You have made a place in my heart where I thought there was no room for anything else. You have made flowers grow where I cultivated dust and stones. Remember this, on this journey you insist on making. If you die, I will not survive you long.
What these ships say about me:
I'm vanilla.
I often go for mainstream pairings, but not exclusively.
I often follow 'ships where guys have a tendecy to die or have something of a deathwish.

Date: 2005-03-29 01:45 pm (UTC)I love pairings. Sometimes, I don't approve of some pairings only because of what the fanfic author does in their fic. I usually stay away from slash because of a scaring experience with a Jack/Daniel Stargate fic.

Date: 2005-03-29 02:27 pm (UTC)As for me... From what you've said Cam, I'm now damned interested in Water Rats... But is it a book series or a TV show?
Oh yeah, I've reciprocated on this meme... put up my own on my LJ. Hard to think of 10 'ships...

Date: 2005-03-29 02:52 pm (UTC)Badfic can be quite evil for a 'ship. I often despair of the lack of goodfic with my happy little pairings. Ah well.
