Oh no.

Oh NO.

Rumsfeld is coming to Norway

And of course, our defence minister is going to be sucking up to him all as much as her conservative ass can manage (yes, our defence minister is a female. She's still a git and a budget breaker). I think I might barf.

Disclaimer: In case you have missed it, Cam has an intense and burning dislike of the current US administration, and its preseident and Secretary of Defence in particular. She doesn't claim to be rational about this, but you can always comfort yourself with the fact that she is an evil social demoratic atheist and this has probably clouded her widdle brain. Just stand well back from her trout wielding range before implying this.

Bah. And I was in such a cheerful mood, with the sunny day and all.

France votes on the EU Constitution on Sunday and I've been trying to get any sense of out of it. BBC has a helpful Q&A and excepts from it here. You can find the full thing here, in a variety of different languages.

It's long. It's bloody long. It has some parts that are very good and some parts that are... Huh. It's got bits on *sports*, for crying out loud. It is worth a read/skim, especially if you are European. Interestingly, it outlaws the death penalty as well as discrimination based on sexual orientation.

Now, this thing has to be ratified by all 25 members and has so far by 8 (about to be 9), most of them not holding a referendum like France. So if France votes non!, then what? One wonders, one does. And the British, if it goes to a referendum, are just not gonna say yes. Not even if Blair painted his bum with "I am Bush's ass". So really, is there any future for it? Should there be a future for it?

I don't even know what I'd vote. Of course, I don't have to, since Norway is peculiar and not an EU-memeber yet. If we ever will be. We're an odd little people.

But it still concerns me, as a European. Where is Europe going? Are we going to be The United States of Europe and the balancing force to the US some wish for, or are we going to remain our merry diverse, never-agreeing European selves for another century?

Or perhaps we'll turn out to be neither, who knows. Tomorrow is eternally tomorrow and today is a poor guide to it.

Oh, and ye CSI people who might like Catherine&Warrick, come hang out with us in the Warrick/Catherine gutterthread on FanForum

Cam, out of curiosity, have you authorised a Fullmetal Alchemist PPC spinoff?

Date: 2005-05-27 10:03 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
*blinks* Dunno. Might have, or maybe the Board have. Why?

Date: 2005-05-27 10:06 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] nymeria.livejournal.com
There's a girl called <[livejournal.com profile] urplesquirrel posting a PPC spinoff on the community [livejournal.com profile] fma_spork. I went to the PPC board, and promptly found the webpage of a girl called Neshomeh (sp?) who also claims to be producing an FMA version. Problem? Two different sets of agents.

I'm more inclined to think Neshomeh has permission, given that she's on the message board and [livejournal.com profile] urplesquirrel isn't, but I thought I'd run it past you first. ^_^;;

I'll put out a note on the board, then.

Date: 2005-05-27 10:12 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Well, fandoms have had more than one agent pair wandering about before, so I don't think that would be a problem in itself.

But if your concern is that she posted without asking permission - well, I don't recall being asked about it, but I have a bad memory and I'm currently housesitting for my parents, so I can't really check my files and confirm or deny. It is possible she has asked, I okay a few e-mail requests a month.

I know I have vaguely chatted to this chick, though, but that was about something else.

From: [identity profile] nymeria.livejournal.com
Cool. I'll just put an announcement out on the board, then. *Can't find Neshomeh's e-mail*

Hey, I'm feeling generous today... why don't you guys just go ahead and KEEP Rumsfeld? :-P

Gee, your generosity know no bounds :P

We'll keep him if we can tie him to six moose and watch the rip.

All surplus going to organisations for moose betterment, of course.

When and how do we get rid of Blair, Howard and my dear, dear premier? Plus, all of the other idiots?

Also, incidentally, my birthday is Guy Fawkes' Day.

Or alternatively, freak accidents involving whales.

I understand the bonfire bit, but you lost me with the whales.

Norwegians hunt whales. But who could truly blame us if we accidentally mistook the various members of the US administration for some and harpooned them? I mean, it's the kind of mistake anyone could do.

Date: 2005-05-27 11:38 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] briasoleil.livejournal.com
But what of the rest of the administration? What do we with them?

Otherwise, I bet somewhere up north, there's an ice flow with his name on it. We'll make sure to keep the polar bears extra hungry just for the occasion.

Date: 2005-05-27 11:41 am (UTC)

Well, I'm sure I have a glacier here somewhere I can dump on them. How tradgic that they all gotten flattened on an historic visit to Norway... Oh, how the world mourns.

From: [identity profile] briasoleil.livejournal.com
Indeed. Very sad. Catastrophic, even. Horrible, horrible. *shakes head*

And in non-Bizarro land, it would be the event by which we'd be forced to redefine "joy".

Are we going to be The United States of Europe and the balancing force to the US some wish for, or are we going to remain our merry diverse, never-agreeing European selves for another century?

I think the second would be quite nice, really. ^^ I like the merry diverse, never-agreeing selves.

Also, I found the section about sports. *laughs lots* That's certainly a pressing issue.. in order to further the welfare of the EU, we must have good sporting relations and educate young sportspeople in fair play. *nods seriously* I can see how it's a good idea, but on a constitution?

Date: 2005-05-27 11:03 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
I know! It's almost as if they were afraid to miss anything, so they stuck everything they could think of in there. Maybe they hoped if they stuck enough god stuff in there, people would vote yes just for that. Who knows how they think...

Yes, our merry diverse, never-agreeing selves are certainly not too bad and if we got too united, who would we tell jokes about? I could never mock Swedes again. How sad.

Date: 2005-05-27 11:06 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] agentmaly.livejournal.com
From what I've seen, it does appear that way, yes. I wonder if they have regulations on alcoholic beverages and book publication.

That would be sad. No one could openly laugh at any other country. Eventually they might be even be an 'any other country.' And that would be terrifying.

Date: 2005-05-27 11:07 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] agentmaly.livejournal.com
Odd typos there. o.O That was supposed to say 'Eventually there might not even be an "any other country." '

Date: 2005-05-27 11:11 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
And furcoat regulations for the møøse? ;)

Oh no. We'd have to stop mocking each other at Eurosong. No! NOOOOOO! NOOOOOOOOOO!

Right to mock should be in our European Constitution, dammit.

We already talked about the EuroConstitution so I won't bore your poor LJ friends to death with my thoughts on this delicate issue....

So Rumsfeld is coming to Norway...What a better occasion to show me how a genuine Norwegian of Viking descent swings her axe around?;P

I'm still lurking over at FanForum. Will delurk as soon as I have something interesting to say.

Funny how half of the delicate issues I raise in this LJ sooner or later gets a Monty Python quote. Maybe we should let them write our Constitution.

Perhaps I shall, after the moose have done their job (see above).

Interesting to say? Just go "I think Catherine should rip Warrick's shirt off some" and you'll side riiiiight in.

It surely would be funnier to read. And no headaches.

Interesting to say? Just go "I think Catherine should rip Warrick's shirt off some" and you'll side riiiiight in.

In that case I'll just jump in and say that since she's his boss now Catherine should just make a rule that Warrick is to work shirtless all the time (Vegas is in the desert, right?Must be bloody hot down there.)

And whenever the European Parliament got boring, they could just read from it.

Oh, excellent rule suggestion. Let's put that in the European Constiution too (nevermind that he's American).

Desert is hot at day, yes. Nights can be bloody cold. I lived in Australia, so I've experienced that. But on those occasions, Catherine can just warm him up.

Cam has an intense and burning dislike of the current US administration, and its preseident and defence minister in particular.

...Defence Minister? Who's the Defence Minister? (Because we don't have politicians with the title of "Minister" in America. Sorry.]

Also, I loathe, detest, revile and abominate the entire U.S. administration. And I am thinking seriously about moving to New Zealand because it is very far away from everything else. And because I do not want to live in the Shubbery's Jesusland.

Date: 2005-05-27 11:25 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
You say secretary, we say minister. Same job basically, different title. Thus I always think of them as ministers, I'm afraid. That's what they are in my mind.

New Zealand is lovely. And Rumsfeld is unlikely to come visit there. If he does, let him be pecked by Kiwis.

Date: 2005-05-27 11:30 am (UTC)

Heh. I'd say the scary part is how little we (the ones of us who are part of the EU) really know about the EU Constitution... Oh, it's very likely I'm just talking about myself here, 'cause I know next to nothing. Suppousedly, we don't get to vote over here (in Sweden), it'll be a choice the government makes. Still, I was hoping for a public vote, since I don't know what it's all about... Meh.
As for Europe being a balancing force for the US, I still believe that the US will implode. I guess Asia will be in control then... Oh, speculations. My, I am ignorant... =p

Date: 2005-05-27 02:43 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
You're not the only one who don't know much. Even the FRench who are voting on it seem to know little. Maybe if it wasn't over 200 pages, people would actually manage to read it and make an informed decision. Sheesh.

Imploding US? Well, you're not the first to think that. I guess we shall see.

Give China enough time and they'll become a huge power, probably.

Yes, do drop by. Bring the crotches.
