Oh no.
Oh NO.
Rumsfeld is coming to Norway
And of course, our defence minister is going to be sucking up to him all as much as her conservative ass can manage (yes, our defence minister is a female. She's still a git and a budget breaker). I think I might barf.
Disclaimer: In case you have missed it, Cam has an intense and burning dislike of the current US administration, and its preseident and Secretary of Defence in particular. She doesn't claim to be rational about this, but you can always comfort yourself with the fact that she is an evil social demoratic atheist and this has probably clouded her widdle brain. Just stand well back from her trout wielding range before implying this.
Bah. And I was in such a cheerful mood, with the sunny day and all.
France votes on the EU Constitution on Sunday and I've been trying to get any sense of out of it. BBC has a helpful Q&A and excepts from it here. You can find the full thing here, in a variety of different languages.
It's long. It's bloody long. It has some parts that are very good and some parts that are... Huh. It's got bits on *sports*, for crying out loud. It is worth a read/skim, especially if you are European. Interestingly, it outlaws the death penalty as well as discrimination based on sexual orientation.
Now, this thing has to be ratified by all 25 members and has so far by 8 (about to be 9), most of them not holding a referendum like France. So if France votes non!, then what? One wonders, one does. And the British, if it goes to a referendum, are just not gonna say yes. Not even if Blair painted his bum with "I am Bush's ass". So really, is there any future for it? Should there be a future for it?
I don't even know what I'd vote. Of course, I don't have to, since Norway is peculiar and not an EU-memeber yet. If we ever will be. We're an odd little people.
But it still concerns me, as a European. Where is Europe going? Are we going to be The United States of Europe and the balancing force to the US some wish for, or are we going to remain our merry diverse, never-agreeing European selves for another century?
Or perhaps we'll turn out to be neither, who knows. Tomorrow is eternally tomorrow and today is a poor guide to it.
Oh, and ye CSI people who might like Catherine&Warrick, come hang out with us in the Warrick/Catherinegutterthread on FanForum

I'll put out a note on the board, then.

It is possible she has asked, I okay a few e-mail requests a month.
I know I have vaguely chatted to this chick, though, but that was about something else.

Date: 2005-05-27 10:56 am (UTC)I think the second would be quite nice, really. ^^ I like the merry diverse, never-agreeing selves.
Also, I found the section about sports. *laughs lots* That's certainly a pressing issue.. in order to further the welfare of the EU, we must have good sporting relations and educate young sportspeople in fair play. *nods seriously* I can see how it's a good idea, but on a constitution?

Date: 2005-05-27 11:03 am (UTC)Yes, our merry diverse, never-agreeing selves are certainly not too bad and if we got too united, who would we tell jokes about? I could never mock Swedes again. How sad.
no subject
Date: 2005-05-27 11:06 am (UTC)That would be sad. No one could openly laugh at any other country. Eventually they might be even be an 'any other country.' And that would be terrifying.

Right to mock should be in our European Constitution, dammit.

I'm still lurking over at FanForum. Will delurk as soon as I have something interesting to say.

Interesting to say? Just go "I think Catherine should rip Warrick's shirt off some" and you'll side riiiiight in.

In that case I'll just jump in and say that since she's his boss now Catherine should just make a rule that Warrick is to work shirtless all the time (Vegas is in the desert, right?Must be bloody hot down there.)

Date: 2005-05-27 11:40 am (UTC)Oh, excellent rule suggestion. Let's put that in the European Constiution too (nevermind that he's American).
Desert is hot at day, yes. Nights can be bloody cold. I lived in Australia, so I've experienced that. But on those occasions, Catherine can just warm him up.

Also, I loathe, detest, revile and abominate the entire U.S. administration. And I am thinking seriously about moving to New Zealand because it is very far away from everything else. And because I do not want to live in the Shubbery's Jesusland.

Date: 2005-05-27 11:25 am (UTC)New Zealand is lovely. And Rumsfeld is unlikely to come visit there. If he does, let him be pecked by Kiwis.
