East of the Sun, West of the Moon has ch. 32 up here (CSI Forensics) and here (ff.net)

I'll probably give blood today and I've thus decided to spoil myself with a good meal first. Something meaty, mmmm.

In other news, this cracked me up this morning - The Lord of the Rings movies that might have been.

It looks on a few suggested scripts before Peter Jackson and... Oh man.

Boorman was simply too full of his own creative spark to limit himself to what was in Tolkien’s book.  For example, consider this strange sequence of events.  After the destruction of
the Ringwraiths at the Fords of Bruinen, Frodo is carried into the sparkling palace of Rivendell, where in a vast amphitheatre full of chanting elves he is laid naked on a crystal table and covered with green leaves. A thirteen-year-old Arwen surgically removes the Morgul-blade fragment from his shoulder with a red-hot knife under the threatening axe of Gimli, while Gandalf dares Boromir to try to take the Ring (...)

Gandalf leads Gimli through a primitive rebirthing ritual, making him dig a hole and crawl into it, covering him with a cloak and violently beating and verbally abusing him, until he springs forth with recovered memories of his forgotten ancestral language and speaks the Dwarvish words needed to open the doors

So, so wrong.

That was a really interesting Tolkein script article. Thanks for linking it. Also, yes, SO SO SO wrong on that middle script.

This may sound as blasphemy, but I'd give a lot of good money to see that scene!

Okaaay. O_o Was the guy on crack when he wrote that?

Oh, I think I'd pay money to see this version too, if only for the sheer mindfuckingness of it.

I'm sure he was on something, cos damn...

LotR movies that could have been...

What the fuck is wrong with TOLKIEN'S VERSION?!?!

All right, I'll try not to complain about PJ's version anymore because that's just SO VERY WRONG.

Tolkien's version is not as easy to film in its original form (length for one thing) and... Wekk, Hollywood be Hollywood.

True, so they have to change some things. Which is no explanation for them changing things they don't need too! I mean, which is longer - one of the hobbits figuring out the word-game at the Gates of Moria, or... THAT?!
And it's possible to change things and still remain at least somewhat true to Tolkien.

*sulks*

It just shows how much of a sap I am, that although a lot of that article gave me the mindfucks, the bit that made me see red was the script that had Sam abandoning Frodo in Shelob's Lair - despite knowing he was still alive.

It makes me fell all icky inside. :(

Yeeeikes.

I don't remember the Bakshi version well enough, just that it was never finished.

But that second one? Oy. Brego the Wonder Horse can stay...

I like the naked Frodo part but...

[runs away crying and screaming]

In other news I'm glad the bastard got what he deserves.
