US Supreme Court justice resigns
I'm hearing a big 'uh oh' from the region of non-Republican America.
Bush on it: The nation deserves - and I will select - a Supreme Court justice that Americans can be proud of.
One Americans will be proud of - or you will be proud of, Bush? I guess we will see soon enough.

Gay US couples travel to Canada to marry
Fred Phelps must be moaning.

WTF, says I.

Stoltenberg looks to be people's choice for new PM
We'll see at the election, I guess. But I sense change in the wind.

Rosenborg loses cup match and is out
Oh man. Rosenborg sucks this year.

Memes I've nicked:

1.

a. Post a list of 5 fandoms.
b. Have your friends list choose a character from each fandom that he/she thinks most resembles you and justify why.
c. Post in your own LJ.

1. CSI
2. Lord of the Rings
3. Harry Potter
4. Discworld
5. Babylon 5

2.

Please leave a one-word comment that you think best describes me. It can only be one word. No more.

Then copy & paste this in your journal so that I may leave a word about you.

I read about the northbound Americans on the BBC too. XD

I get the feeling I might not be very proud.

Fandoms list:

1. CSI - couldn't say, never watched it.
2. Lord of the Rings - Galadriel. You've got that whole wise-and-vaguely-threatening vibe going.
3. Harry Potter - Professor McGonagall. Your intoleration towards stupidity is the same.
4. Discworld - Lady Margolotta, because you're both slightly eccentric and mysteriously influential. Also eccentric.
5. Babylon 5 - Once again, couldn't say.

Other meme: Opinionated.

Well, I'm not technically an LJ friend, but...

CSI: Totally Catherine. The quiet coolness secretion.
LotR: You're going to kill me for this, but the Witch-King. Oh yes. Threatening and vicious!
Harry Potter: McGonagall. The strictness. In this case to canon.
Discworld + Bab 5: No idea.

2. Lord of the Rings: Gimli. No mercy when you're pissed off.

3. Harry Potter: Hermione. You're very intelligent, and you know what the hell you're talking about.

4. Discworld: Death. You can be blunt and practical at the same time.

5. Babylon 5: Dunno... I never watched much B5... Sorry...

Thieves steal hedge
WTF, says I.

This actually happened to my parents just recently. It wasn't a whole 32 plant hedge, but it was a rather large bush/tree type plant that was planted on the side of their old house. This house is on the market and they live in their new one. They went to check on the house one day and found no plant and one of the big, flat stones from around their pond placed over the gaping hole. I think it was someone who toured the house and saw and wanted the plant. But they swear it was the crazy next door neighbor, that's it just the sort of thing he would do. Then hide it in his greenhouse til the house is sold and my parents have no reason to come back around. People are just plain strange, running around, stealing plants of all things.

1. Not familiar with most of those fandoms... and I'm even drawing a mindblank for LOTR.

2. Word: Critical. (I mean it in a good way.)

The nation deserves - and I will select - a Supreme Court justice that Americans can be proud of.

The nation deserves - and a lot of us tried to select - a better President than you have been, Shrub.

Fred Phelps must be moaning.

Because I have to say it somewhere... I seriously would not be surprised if Fred Phelps were gay himself. Honestly.

Wow. I actually Googled something about gay rights in America today, and apparently New England is now a "test ground" to show the United States that gay marriage does not kill society. Oh yeah, and various anti-gay marriage politicians from other regions of the country actually said that New England politicians legalizing gay marriages or civil unions "takes the choice away from the people."

WTF. I'm sure making slavery illegal took the choice away from "the people," too. Oh yes, and some people are so much more important than others, that their freedom of choice overrides that of the people the choice most directly involves.

(Sorry, had to rant. ^_^;)

*applauds*

Seriously. Do the anti-gay crowd think that the gays and lesbians are going to come breaking down their doors, tearing up their marriage liscences, and melting their wedding rings?

Date: 2005-07-01 09:34 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sinneahtes.livejournal.com
Oh, if not that, they're going to adopt children and teach them how to be gay, and they'll breed an entire gay army to completely wipe out marriage all together!

Because, of course, no straight couple ever had a gay child.

Date: 2005-07-02 05:47 am (UTC)

Seems so.

The religious right actually claims that legalizing gay marriage in Norway have "deterred" straights from marrying. Riiiiiight.

1.
CSI - don't watch it
Lord of the Rings - Gandalf in the books. You're motivated and get everyone organised.
Harry Potter - Prof. Snape. Yay for making life hell for students.
Discworld - I'm going to say Archancellor Ridcully, because UU is an impossible university, but Ridcully is an impossible archancellor, so it works out. (I can't remember the proper quote for that, I think it's in The Last Continent.)
Babylon 5 - don't watch it

1. CSI -- Don't watch it.
2. Lord of the Rings -- Eowyn. Totally Eowyn. Because she is intelligent and brave, and because she vanquishes evil that everyone thinks could never be defeated.
3. Harry Potter -- McGonagall. She is incredibly cool and intelligent and...well, you just don't mess with this lady.
4. Discworld -- Lady Sybil Rankin. Intelligent. (Sensing a theme?) Courageous. Does what she thinks is important and doesn't give a hang what anyone else thinks. Plain-spoken when she has to be. Finally, COOL. (Sybil stops a war by singing an aria in Dwarvish to a near-mob. Really, how great is that?)
5. Babylon 5 -- I think his name is Londo. Intelligent, wry, devious and with a definite sense of humour.

One word? Excellence.

CSI - I'd say you are Catherine because you think Warrick is TehHot!
Lord of the Rings - Eowyn because you are tough, driven, and decisive.
Harry Potter - Hermione due to the fact that you are always reading and love to inform others of what is going on. You also seem very loyal and clever.
Discworld - Death. You are objective - or try to be - and practical.
Babylon 5 can't say as I've not watched it enough.

1. CSI - I'd say Warrick because he's cool, calm and confident. And very talented. (Though your talent is not musical, as far as I know ;P).
2. Lord of the Rings - Toatally Galadriel. Because you're wise, charming and can be intimidating when you want to.
3. Harry Potter - MacGonagall. She's got a very low stupidity tolerancy threshold. Like you. And she's witty too. And you both are very pasionate about sports (quidditch and footbal respectively ;P).
4. Discworld - Have no idea what kind of show it is.
5. Babylon 5 - See previous answer.

Meme#2: witty.

I don't know if I'm going to post these memes myself. Because you still have to finish my Music Meme of Doom :: insert evil laughter here ::

Oh, I suck at music. I don't have a great voice (though it's horrid either, it's just... all right), I cannot play the piano, I cannot read notes, I'm not a great rhythm maker... Nope, not a great music talent.

Discworld is a series of books of utter brilliance by Terry Pratchett.

Yes, do.

CSI - Grissom. Now, hear me out. I don't mean the emotionally constipated, bug-loving, scared shitless of deep emotional relationships part but the funny, eccentric, witty, smart, and all around fun Grissom.
LOTR - Oh Gosh, I have so little knowledge of this fandom but I guess Eowyn? She's the one woman who goes to war and takes Pippin along right? I don't know, that just struck me as something you would have done if you were in the LOTR universe.

I have no knowledge of the other three fandoms. I have never ever seen or read any of the Harry Potter movies/books.

I'm watching Planet of the Apes. I would trust those apes more to "select - a Supreme Court justice that Americans can be proud of" than Shrubby.

Oh, Hermit-Grissom and I do understand each other - all Norwegians have an Inner Hermit. And we got issues about personal space.

Éowyn is indeed the woman who rides to war - and marries Faramir. Mmm-mmm.

1. Grissom, haven't seen so much but he seems like a person that if he doesn’t know about something he reads up on it and I have a vague memory of you being somewhat similar to that.
2. Eowyn, doesn’t let things get in her way.
3. Professor McGonagall, stern but well-meaning educator.
4. Haven't read, much.
5. Sheridan, not afraid to speak his mind.

2. Lord of the Rings - Saruman...you try to turn people to the evil side :P
3. Harry Potter - def, Prof. McGonagall... you have a low tolarance rate
4. Discworld - never seen it
5. Babylon 5 - also never seen it

CSI - Doc Robbins, yo. Easily. Quirky sense of humor, intelligent and dedicated, a little twisted, gregarious without being outlandish, a bit of a rebel, loyal, a bit of a dark side.
Lord of the Rings - Eowyn. She's badass.
Harry Potter - Prof. McGonagall. I agree with the masses, you do not tolerate idiocy.
Babylon 5 - I haven't watched it much, but you have the empathy and strong moral code of Delenn (if I even spelled that correctly.)

I am so, so scared of Bush putting someone on the bench. I suppose with him serving two terms it was inevitable, but it literally makes me anxious and ill.

Oh, and one word - cogent.

Gonna have to look up that word.

I like Doc Robbins. He doesn't get enough love. But then, I have a weakness for older, smarter men. Mmm-mmm. Brains and wisdom.

Yeah. I worry about who'll put on there too, and I ain't even American.
