I know very little about some of the people on my friends list. Some people I know relatively well. I read your fic, or we have something else in common and we chat occasionally. Some of you I hardly know at
all. Perhaps you lurk, for whatever reason. But you friended me and I thank you.

But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all.Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...she likes office supplies."

I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this. Yes, even you people who I know really well. Then post this in your own journal.

(And if you've newly friended me, why not introduce yourself?)

Hi, I'm Briana. I used to read your OFU for Lord of the Rings way back in the day. I'm not as much into fandom anymore, my fanfiction site has been pretty much long abandonded, and my LJ is mostly IRL stuff, but I remembered you and decided to friend you. Which is good because I discovered your OFUCSI. Yay.

Anyway, that's my humble introduction.

From: [identity profile] roo2.livejournal.com
I'm Roo. I'm a comic book junkie. I used to say I was a recovering comic book junkie - after about ten years I kicked the habit when I found myself choosing to get my weekly comic fix over buying groceries. I decided it was time to quit. I did really well for maybe twelve years or so. My honey sometimes took me to comic stores (he's into trading cards) but I stayed close to him and didn't wander and forced myself not to look at the comics. The shop owners probably thought I was a middle-aged woman who thought comics were for young geeks or something, that I was above them. But the truth of the matter is it was more like being a recovering alcoholic in a really big liquor store.

I recently fell off the wagon. [livejournal.com profile] scans_daily got me intrigued. I thought I'd start out slow, but a few titles on ebay at bargain prices. Next thing I know I'm up at 2:00AM sniping someone on a 100 issue set of Detective Comics and paying $175.00 (ouch!) for them. It's sad. I mean, I'm 37 years old (next month) and I'm spending way too much money on comics on Ebay. I've avoided the shops so far except for buying bags, boxes and backings, cause I don't want to wander and get interested in something new. Ebay helps me stay narrowly focused. But I feel the temptation and I'm sure that in a few months I'll be crawling into a local comics store, emerging shamefully into the light with a huge bag full of comic books and a much lighter wallet. It's inevitable. *sobs*.

I'm now at the point where I need to set up a database to track what I've been buying, plus integrate the new purchases with the seven boxes of comics in the attic.

I'm cactus wren and I found you through b2wm's journal and OFUM. I love to read. People ask me how I can read so many books & I explain that I read while blow drying my hair, I read while brushing my teeth, I read while eating, I read while watching my kids swim in the pool. I also have a purse that a paperback can easily fit into, and take a book with me everywhere. We have alot of traintracks in my town, and it seems like every time I have to head to the other side of town for something, I get caught by a train. I don't sit there and think, 'Dammit, stupid train, making me late' - I get out my book and read til it's passed.

I've done this once, so I'll say here what I said there.

I have Asperger's Syndrome and learned my social skills from fandom and drama class. Recently I've joined Starfleet, where they love me even if I'm not all that impressed with any of the Star Treks, and taken up fencing, which has made me loathe Teyla Emmagan of Stargate: Atlantis for never having hand cramps, bruises, or sweat-matted hair after a stick fight. (For that matter, she should put her hair UP once in a while. Seeing is helpful.)

I have massive personality conflicts with my father and a perfectionistic streak that often leads to me being unable to even start something in case it turns out to suck. The latter I'm told is pretty common in Asperger's people. I do not like the sound of spoken French, but love Spanish, Latin, and am becoming fond of Russian. Not that I understand them.

Around the time I joined Starfleet I took up gaming. I don't know where it's been all my life, because it's wonderful.

I seem to lack the capacity to organize these thoughts even slightly.

I love office supplies. I once wrote a story about a man who worked at an office supply store and was a rock bassist by night. I believe he'll get more stories about him written some day.

Why is everyone giving their names first thing, though? They can't all be new, can they?

I also don't think I like licorice spice tea. It's probably the only type of tea I've ever encountered I can truly say I just don't like at all. It tastes like it's drug-infused or something, which is actually probably true, seeing as it's Stash tea.

I'm much more menacing than people seem to think. Also I have twenty-seven teeth.

And I like walking in the rain and just getting wet and laughing at everyone scuttling about under umbrellas.

Some assorted facts... I usually like to lurk. Although I sometimes slip by posting, I like to think I've perfected the art.

I'm a German/English bilingual, an English/comparative literature studies student and have basic skills in 5 languages, hoping to bring that up to 8. I greatly enjoy Star Trek, all other sci-fi series. I used to watch LOTR religiously once a month, every month. I play fantasy RPGs and have been to two live roleplaying events. I use a 28 lbs bow in my archery classes. I have yet to find someone who teaches sword fighting. I dabble in fanfiction and art and I've recently started writing for the Kyou Kara Maou fandom. Okay, well.

I have this strange affinity for totally insane, issue-having characters. If I wasn't (still) ridiculously in love with Frodo, Smeagol would be my favorite character from the Lord of the Rings. Today I was reading Fullmetal Alchemist in a bookstore, and came across a story about a dude who, in a fit of desperation, spliced his daughter and his dog together into one messed-up creature. I'm suddenly obsessed with this character, because it's got to have TONS of issues. But I love the pathetically sad, issue-having characters in stories. My favorite character ever in a story I've written fits the description pretty well.

On the other hand, crazy people scare the crap out of me in real life. Seriously, I get the worst case of the willies every time I run across someone who's mentally ill, or developmentally disabled. And I'm ashamed of it, and I do whatever I can to try not to show it, and treat them with as much compassion and friendliness as possible, but I can't stop my stomach from flipping over in terror when I meet one of them.

And, well, let's see, what else . . . I really hate pop stars who can't sing well. I know so many people with beautiful voices, so why are we filling the airwaves with these talentless people who sing through their noses? Urg.

I am [livejournal.com profile] millikov. I hate milk and cheese, and also They Who Must Not Be Named. Well, we used to name and lambast them in those chats we had (by the fireside, sipping tea whilst throwing Republicans of the Batshit sort into said fire), but that was before They summoned their Media and Propangada Allsorts Division to gack and publish nude picures of a Singaporean girl off her blog without her consent and bashed her parents for bringing her up poorly. Hiss!

I also like Yummy Noldorin Elves, particularly those of the golden-haired, Balrog-slaying nature, Countertenors, Tenors, C.S.Is of the sort who get it on with Lady Heather when they shouldn't and authors with messy hair, leather jackets, and traces of a British accent who agree to sign the back of your book as Crowley despite having a thousand other people waiting in line for him. Or for his autograph, at least.
