Senate rebels against White House

And Bush wants to veto this. He must've picked up that I haven't been as disliking of him as usual of late (I've been distracted by shinies) and decided to get properly back in my bad graces. Well, you made it, Bush. Now stand still while I smack you very hard with this human rights charter.

Twat.

Oh, and for those who fondly remember legolas, surely one of the worst LotR fanfics out there, it's now on tape. Enjoy!

And because no post of mine of late is complete without Doctor Who...

Now why did the BBC have to go and cut this hug from the Dalek episode?

Mmm, hot. And very graphic worthy. Naughty snip-snip BBC. But I still love you.

Wow, I've never listened to badly written fanfic on audio before. That's a dimension of pain I never even knew existed.

*swipes caps for future play*

You know me, always eager to share the pain for the good of all.

:P Do share said play.

Huh. Now I can't recall if that hug was featured on the version that aired on the CBC. I'll have to pull out my tapes and check it out.

And badfic on audio? It's bad enough to see it on my computer screen - after which I fall into denial - but to hear it would make repressing it that much more difficult, I think.

It wasn't on the BBC version, at least. Bummer, eh?

True, but hearing legolas read is hillarity. The whole thing is just one long paragraph and punctuation is all weird. Quite the challenge to read.

Ok that fic was awful, it was worse than awful. I gotta give props to the girl who read it though. Doing that without laughing your ass off is no small feat I'm sure.
Mind if I pimp it in my journal?

And Bush is a fucktard, all I'm gonna say lol

Dare I ask what "language" the White House wants concerning prohibiting "the 'cruel, inhumane or degrading' treatment of prisoners in the custody of America's defence department?"

Well, maybe I shouldn't. No stomach for it.

I was going to put a picture of Bush on a dartboard and ask if anyone was up for a game, but I bet that would be perceived by certain people in power as a threat to Bush's actual safety, rather than what it actually is (an expression of displeasure against one hell of a shitty president). :P

Threat to homeland security and all, probably.

Come to Norway and throw darts here. They'll be steel-tipped.

Use a digicam if you're going to take pictures of people using Bush's face as a dartboard. Otherwise, this might be you.

Some days, I really get a hankering to move to Norway. Canada is no longer far enough.

Wow. There is nothing like the head of government of the only superpower left standing up and not supporting anti-torture legislation. There are no words to describe how frightened this makes me. Because if we can't agree that torture is bad and needs to be stopped, how can we agree on any international human rights' accord? Oy. This man certainly knows how to enrage me.

Tell me about it. This is laws even dodgier governments than Bush's have passed. But I guess the war against terror can't be won except through doing the same things they'd do.

Which makes me wonder what the point of winning would be again...

Arrrrgh, how much longer do we have to keep him?! I'm glad we had him for some things, but that was back a ways now. Now he's just scaring me. I honestly think half or more of the terrorism Americans feel terror over is from our own media and government.

Guh. ::points to all the laws about cruel and unusual punishment:: They should apply to POWs too.

I voted for McCain when he ran... :/

We got OFUCSI banners...

Three years? Shudder.

The media has clearly hyped it all up, though there is somewhat of a genuine threat. But all this fear is not healthy for a society. What you give up in fear you might not get back when things are normal.

McCain even I can stand (partly cos he came to Norway and Svalbard and looked at the efefcts of global warming). Now I might even like him for a bit.

Who can actually read that thing aloud? (Besides this person, naturally.)

Drew, my sister, actually read it to me online when it was new. It was funny to watch her try and take a breath after a while.

I'll have to listen to the audio when I'm not dead tired. ^^

I'd never thought that I would declare my love for a Republican U.S. senator one day, but if John McCain introduced the ant-torture legislation in good faith, then he's got it now! Hopefully, the bill will make it into law...

And what a lovely hug! Why oh why did the BBC cut that? Although I'd also have liked to see some dialogue by the scriptwriters addressing the whole emotional mess at the end of Dalek.

Tell me about it. Actually, some of the moderate Republicans are tolerarable, which is more than can be said for some Democrats. It's just taht the right-winged part of the Republicans is just... Gaaaaah.

They cut it because they're cruel. Cruel! The mess at the end of Dalek did sorta come back at the end when they found the Dalek army, though. Still trauma for our poor Doctor, but the experiences in Dalek seemed to have steeled him a bit.
